I remember hearing this song on the radio multiple times when it was Back Tracks to the 1980s. However, I remember listening to: Don't Dream It's Over many, many times. Now that I watched Something So Strong (I think I might have seen it 3 or 4 times in my life) I bought the record in 2014 but the record had a small crack in it. I took it back to the Record Store and the man at the front gave me a 2nd copy and he threw in Split Enz.

The same guy who throws a paper airplane (which everybody is so amazed by) dances with some piece of clothing. Then there's a forklift that lifts up the drummer and his drumset. Kisses the guy with this hand over his mouth after getting soak and wet and gives him a hug. Then the video ends. Who designed the music video this way?

Aww, this is so adorable. Paul Hester on the drums was so cute, so full of life, yet I just read that he died in 2005 at the age of 46. How sad! Neil Finn is also very handsome in this video, as is his brother, Jim Finn. What a great upbeat song! The setting is the old barn, the laundry on the line is being played with, the girls are adoring the boys playing the music and the whole thing is a feel good happy time. I love this!

Lived in New York City 82-89. An aspiring novelist and wanna-be Letterman staff writer, lost, bopping about in a dazed but resolute way, implacable, crazy jobs and crazier girlfriends, rudderless. One paramour lived on the Upper West Side at 75th St off of Columbus, in the same building as Fritz Weaver who spoke to me twice in the elevator, and I would walk over there from my hellhole at 50th and Second, snake through the hot streets on to Central Park and Sheeps Meadow which was Nirvanna. And one lonely spring Thursday in late morning, I began my trek cross town, aimless and self conscious and living in my head, but forever plowing on, forcing the journey one foot in front of the other, Confucious style. And my song of the moment was Something So Strong, which I'd heard for the first time the week before on the sound system at the Hog's Breath Inn, a bar in Carmel, CA where my father had taken me for dinner when I was visiting him, and where I'd met Clint Eastwood, who owned the place. And I perked up when I heard the song, liked the chords and the progression and the soft melancholy vocals. And I kind of logged it away, the way you do with songs. Cut to Sheep's Meadow and walking across the newly mowed grass, and there in the middle of the vast breadth of lawn, were four guys playing instruments, two guitarists, keyboard player, and a drummer with his full kit. And recording this acoustic happening, a little cherubic fellow in jeans with the kind of large boxy video recorder they had back then -this was probably 1987. And I walked up to them, just me in this vast expanse, and I stood there -an audience of one- as they finished tuning their instruments, and launched into a song. That song. The one from the Hog's Breath, Something So Strong. It sounded oddly similar to the radio version and then it dawned on me that these were the original performers because I recognized the singer. Strangely, the key board guy was just miming playing, but everyone else was banging away and the singer was belting it out and despite its garage band spin it sounded nice. They finished and I applauded. Just me and a little private concert. And they smiled politely, and looked around a little wistfully; I got the impression they'd figured on more of an impromptu audience. And then they packed up and I pressed on. And that was that. Later that night I saw them on Letterman's Show. And sure enough they worked the remote footage from the park into the live performance. Whenever I hear this song, I'm transported instantly, in the pulse of a dendrite, to the The Hogg's Breath and my father then NYC and Sheeps Meadow and Crowded House all alone in Sheep's Meadow.

waynegrovs43 Yeah, I know. He may have had bipolar with the "highs" (mania) and extreme lows (depression). From the sounds of it in the book Something So Strong by Chris Bourke he had extreme mood swings for years. Medication and therapy can only do so much unfortunately. The medication helps take the edge off a little and balances the chemical balance, but depression and other mental illnesses are REALLY hard to live with. I have the part of my brain that controls mood missing (had to be removed since a tumour in there was causing incessant seizures) so it makes it really difficult to control my emotions and I go through major mood swings as well, despite medication and therapy. So while I wish he had seeked further help and hadn't have committed suicide, I also understand too why he did it. I get thoughts like that too at times. It's a horrible thing to live with.

***** sorry to hear that you have had to go through these mood swings and been dealing with seizures. I know you told me that paul died, but which one is Paul in this video?

Dave ruelle It's OK. It's difficult, but I've learned to get through with what help I do have and try to live my life to the best of my ability. Paul is the one on the drums. Was very talented and for a really short time did some solo music before his death. A couple of his songs and music videos are up here on KZbin.

Will never forget Neil, Nick & Paulo performing this at the Baltimore City Fair. I was in the second row, remember well Sharon filming it, Liam running into the stage that show to hang on Neil. One of my all time fave memories and one of the very best live shows I ever saw (and that's saying a lot). Amazing band, incredible songs & musicians. RIP Hessie, we miss you ❤️❤️🌹
