I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this hymn!! I can't make ot thru without crying! 😭😭😭 The thought of our Savior's true sacrifice and what it cost Him just ABSOLUTELY gets me to the depths of my soul. I can't wait to see my Savior face to face & worship Him for all eternity with all of creation!! He is so awesome, wonderful, and amazing! The darker our world gets, the closer my walk with Him. I JUST passed the 4 year anniversary of rededicating my life to Him. He is doing amazing things in my life and I'm so forever grateful & thankful. The thought of all He's done for a wretched sinner like me has me all undone. His Sovereignty, steadfast, overwhelming love, abundant mercies, and infatuation amazing grace are absolutely Indescribable!! He is my LORD, my King, my Redeemer, my Friend, my All-in-All, my Defender, my Hightower, my Rock, my Anchor, my everything!! Thank you for sharing the full version of this beautiful and majestic hymn. We really need to (as a global church) get back to some of these classic hymns. There is a place for ALL music, hymns, Psalms, and newer worship music in church. The only thing I don't like about some of the newer worship songs (some, not all) is when they repeat a single phrase repeatedly... in an almost robotic, trance-like fashion. I know many people like it, and that's fine for them, but for me personally, a happy medium of both old hymns, Psalms, and newer worship music should all have a place in weekly worship! God bless you!! 👑✝️❤️🌏👨👩👧👧🐑☝🏼💪🏾⚓️🪨⛰️🏰🛡🗡📖🙏🏻🛐🎶🙌🏼🧂🕯💧🔥🕊🤟

Ohhh I remember my mom singing this song a lot on the mission field Many many years ago, I am 65 now and as a child growing up we had our hymnal book but it’s only now that the passion, revelation for these Zion songs have the meaning of eternal hope. Christ in us the hope of glory. I am soo overwhelmingly happy to walk down memory lane with these songs. Shalom and thank you. Ohhhh what beautiful words, because He was victorious, we are also victorious.

The history of this song is so interesting. Thanks for searching it out. It’s always been a favourite of mine since childhood when, even at a young age, it stirred my heart to honour the majesty of Jesus. Growing up in The Salvation Army, this song was often used to begin the meeting and, accompanied by the band, it was powerful. You can’t sing this sitting down. It draws you to stand and look towards Heaven at our wonderful Saviour. I like the mix of verses you sang. Bless you for your heartfelt rendition. Bless you, Norma.

There seems to be other variations of these verses. On Britain’s big sing they sang a verse that is not widely published but I absolutely love: Crown him the Lord of peace; his kingdom is at hand. From pole to pole let warfare cease and Christ rule every land! All hail, Redeemer, hail, for you have died for me. Your praise shall never, never fail throughout eternity.

@@natkretep I actually had lines 5-8 incorrect in this version: A city stands on high His glory it displays And there the nation “Holy” cry In joyful hymns of praise In researching this I found a similar version but not exact: Crown Him the Lord of peace, Whose power a scepter sways From pole to pole, that wars may cease, And all be prayer and praise. His reign shall know no end, And round His piercèd feet Fair flowers of paradise extend Their fragrance ever sweet.

i was born in '47...as a young kindergartener, I remember sitting next to my mom or standing by her side as she played this. Decades n decades later, my college-age granddaughter played this on her piano and as soon as I heard the first notes and words the wonder of this music filled me with tears n memories...I had totally forgotten ... the Lord in His mercy called my family to repentance and given each of us that day to be born again. The Holy Spirit always ministering and preparing the future sheep to call unto God in repentance, for forgiveness and the power to accept His Son to be our Savior who died on the Cross in our place and was raised from the dead to give us our Hope...and so we say "Even so, come Lord Jesus."

I'm an AOG (Assemblies of God) Pentecostal with Catholic and Anglican roots, so I was raised singing this and many other traditional hymns alongside modern worship songs. This is a truly beautiful hymn which I love to come back to as it is so powerful and true. I could be mistaken, but I believe that the version I was taught growing up combines the first half of verse five and the second half of verse six from Bridges original six verses as one verse instead of playing them both separately. I also agree that we need to use a combination of both Bridges and Thring's versions of this hymn because while they are both great in their own right, singing one version without the other makes it feel like there's something missing. God bless you and your ministry as you continue to explore many other timeless hymns and grow in God's calling on your life.

And, it explains why I was always out of synch with others when I thought I could sing it without the hymnal; so many different hybred verses ! They move me deeply and elevate my contemplations on the Divine. Thank you, again.

We sing most of Bridges version, however we do sing one verse of the other version, also the last four lines in one of the verses but with four lines from Bridges version. Also I think that different denominations sing slightly different lines as well. I hadn't realized this until I just looked for the lyrics on line & found that unless I have the book from church in my hands then I am not going to find what we sing here in Sydney, Australia. It is still a hymn that is sung in churches.

There's a lot more Thring in your performance than I'm used to singing, and I like it! Funnily enough the verse that's always touched me the most, as someone who feels I waste a lot of time and somewhat dreads its passing is "Crown him the Lord of years" which then goes into "All hail Redeemer, hail" as I'm used to it. This verse also makes me feel connected to those in my life who have died and in general to "the communion of saints" through all time. I could say that in Christ, the Potentate of time, all times get invaded by the eternal "now" of the Kingdom of God.
