This is truly magnificent. If only this were sung in all Catholic Churches instead of the cheesy modern songs.

Ikr. What I hate is all the songs that sound old but with modern lyrics. Just the worst part of both. They at least sound good with real singers, which my Church sadly does not have.

Yes, that Gregorian became the exclusive style of chant is a tragedy. So ethereal, almost sad. No power to move the hearts of normal men. It has its place, but should have never been given the pride of place.
@colerobbins124 Жыл бұрын
@@gwynnapnudd702 Gregorian Chant originally sounded like this. It is really only a question of interpretation of ancient manuscripts. And Gregorian Chant as it is sung today moves my heart, so your premise is incorrect.
@gwynnapnudd702 Жыл бұрын
@@colerobbins124 It is one, ONE of the modes of chant. There are six or seven others. The others are easier to sing and less sad. Better for ordinary men let's say Is this original Gregorian chant? Very well, then what I say applies to chant before the Gregorian. I'm simply saying that Gregorian didn't deserve to drive those others out of existence.

It's not Byzantine, it's Catholic, but it was written before the schism of the Catholic and Orthodox churches. So it sounds somewhat Byzantine, but had the masculine, kind of throat singing latin influence. The best of both worlds.
