For the first time they had a real judge. Who knew what she was doing. All the champions were true multipurpose gundogs.

I’m a massive fan of the working English Springer - am blessed to current share my life with two, a lovely old male and a brilliant little energizer bunny of a female. Cannot say enough for this working breed, such delightfully friendly and incredibly loyal, hardworking dogs. Also adore the labs, goldens and the Gordon’s. All are lovely - the Labrador in this one is much heavier than I prefer though, sorry to say.

So far I'm rooting for Luther the IWS for BIS!!! =D One of my favorites. I loved that Curly-Coat! So elegant and lovely. The GWP and SWD are actually two of my other faves from the group, and we currently have a dog who's half Golden...so this judge really liked me or was in tune with me, lol. I like a lot of the rarer breeds in this group...the GLP, Munsterlanders, Lagotto, SRHP, Barbet, wire Vizsla, the Korthals...very cool.

Enjoyed it yesterday evening, very nice dogs all of them. My favourite of course the Irish Setter. That red one made me laugh, one of my Irish once did the same in a show. Loved the German shorthaired and wirehaired, though Wirehaired undocked aren't appreciated in their home country, they are even not admitted for breeding.

There’s actually a dachshund from BC that has come and competed at dock diving a few times when we’ve been out in their area - he is absolutely fearless and omg soooo priceless to watch! He just flies off the dock, and actually managed to jump 10 feet 2 years ago!! He’s a screamer as well, lol. Between him and the Tollers, it got pretty loud a few times! 😆 I bet all of your crew are just brilliant; how lucky are we to have such wonderful creatures to share our lives with?! ❤️

Were you present when this dog was being shown? We were and sat on the front row when it stood in front of us we did not think it is overweight. It is the correct weight for the show type but heavier than the working type of Labrador. The judge would have marked it down had it been overweight.

It's the typical shape for the English type. The American type is leaner and also highly energetic.

Darn not the type of video i was hoping for. I was king of hoping to see gun dogs competing in what they do. Do you guys ever do those type of competitions or would you?

Depends on the videoing company. They have some sort of awards that the dogs actually show their skills. I can't remember what it's called though. I've seen it but not a competition, just a demonstration. This is a 4 day show with over 25,000 dogs entered so not all will be shown, mainly the top winners and groups and best in show.

I have to say I'm really not a fan of golden retrievers, but this one is really a very good example of the breed, absolutely gorgeous. I just have to ask, why are so many of the show dogs eg labs fat? It seems to be the breed standard, also why are American cockers in the gundog group, they should be in the toy group because there's no way that dog can work! I think the working strain of labs should be the breed standard, they're much lighter and work easier!

DollyBear X as a working ESS owner, I completely agree about the working lines being included as well, although I have to disagree with your comment about the cocker - my friend has them and they’re some of the hardest working dogs I’ve seen! Surprised me a little, I’ll admit, but they are definitely goers and absolutely brilliant at their jobs.

I have an American/Working type Labrador retriever I would like to see these dogs at crufts. They are slim and agile they are after all the working breed. There is a class for the field spaniel why not the field Lab. It is a kennel club UK recognised breed.

None of the dogs here had docked tails - it's not permitted at dog shows in the UK where the public pay to view the dogs. The Brittany had a naturally bobbed tail - as can happen in this breed.

The dogs have the natural bobtailed gene, they’re born with less tail vertebrae. They’re not docked, they’re born that way. And even if they were docked, they’re not in constant agonizing pain 24/7.

@@johnwatson8192 a dog shouldn't be "heavier," the dog is overweight. Labs have enough joint problems without asking them to carry excess weight. Fat dogs have become the new normal and it's a shame.

Brendon Urie Is god Do you think any mutt can be a gun dog? A good breed standard describes how a good specimen of the breed should look like to do the job that it is intended to do. A Greyhound should be able to gallop after prey, a German Shepherd should be able to herd sheep and have athleticism to apprehend criminals, and a Labrador should be able to leap into an icy pond to retrieve a downed bird.
