Years ago, one of my dogs behaved like this, she had previously completed two rounds faultlessly but on the third refused to jump and was disqualified. I later discovered she had ruptured her cruciate ligament, probably landing badly in the previous round. Not always just dog being stubborn, I learned a valuable lesson that day.

When my pap mix sits down on walks and refuses to go any further, 9/10 there is something that's become attached to his fur or a burr in his foot. 1/10 it's his back or patella, and we call my husband and get a ride home. But it's not just "misbehavior".

Over the last year watching these KZbin videos about dog agility, I have read a comment or two about how cruel it is to make these dogs run agility. Well, this little papillon is clearly demonstrating that you cannot MAKE a dog run agility. If he does not want to run or doesn't enjoy it, he is not going to run.
@emilyrasputin6 жыл бұрын
Amen! I see comments about this or that animal being "forced" to do something - rabbits are a big example. Clearly the person has never MET a rabbit, as they cannot be forced to do anything they don't want to do without causing a lot of damage. Same for cats, birds, and a lot of other animals who aren't as domesticated as dogs. People are too sensitive - animals will give you a clear sign when they reach their limit.

This is so true. I do agility with my dog and she loves it. Only one time she acted just like tinkerbell. She just refused to do the course (luckily it was during training) it’s even cruel to some breeds (like border collie) whom are made to work not to do any sport because they need stimulation. My dog would go nuts without enough stimulation.

@@Jupe367 Honestly its not my experience. They can be a little I will just pee first and then I will come to you. But I dont find them stubborn especialy compared to other breeds, and huskies for exemple more drama queens. One thing ai love about them is they allways close by to their owner if you treat them kind and teach them to be free with you from early age. All of mine follows me and they wont hunt anything except maybe mice (2 out of 3 I had would do so if chance), and think its fun to play with crows but dont take them. Ive had 3 Papillons and they will allways be of my favorites. They so fun and quick, yet easy going. But they can be sceptical to people they dont know. Which can be a good thing aswell because they wont be the first to run up to everyone off leash. They are more like mini border collies mixed with spaniels and puddles but without so much of the herding and hunting. My 3 have been very diffrent, but all very fun and loves cuddles. One super silent never made a sound reminded of a fox super buddy with a dwarf hamster allways prtotecting it very wise. One smart and cuddley (had him short time) og the one now is the biggest clown ever and she talks a lot, very expressive. No matter breed tho its allways induviduals, so you should probly meet more then one no matter what breed unless you read a lot and have a good feeling and is prepared for the personality you get. I would say tho that Papillon is a dog who needs walks and mental training, not a lot, but some they got energy, moves to run or play and is smart. But they also calm indoors. They do love cuddles, they are breed to be close to the owner so they will not be a godd choice for someone who wants an outdoor dog. The usly like kids if the kids are kind to them and they are not to nervois about sounds some of them can be. They do very well in agility and obidience actully, so its funny with this video 😂
@coombeslauren4 жыл бұрын
As controversial as the showing aspect of Crufts can be, the agility is always so pure. No matter how the dog performs, whether they get a clear round, a few faults or even refuse to start the course, the handlers are always in such good spirits. This is all good fun for both dog and handler and it's so heartwarming to see.

Paps are often really into agility. Or at least into their favorite obstacles, if not the rest. I've personally trained two of them for agility, the other one went 100% crazy for the sport, and I think she was excitement seeking, because she started loving (I mean LOVING) all the high obstacles that she was really afraid of at first. The other one was more into just doing her own stuff, jumping if she felt like it, going on a course of only her favorite obstacles and nothing else, but anyway she was always much more into sniffing and following trails of scent.

I would love to get my dog in agility. She plays with the obstacles at the park all the time but I’m sure it’s much different with such a large crowd. The coolest thing about these competitions is that the dogs love them and I feel everyone was very supportive here. It may have been a little embarrassing for the handler I’m sure but the dog wasn’t into it at the moment. A small hiccup I’m sure they’ll figure out if the team is passionate about the sport (and I’m sure they are considering they’re at crufs)
