In the Navy, we call this "Tuesday." LOL I work on a ferry in Northern Lake Michigan in the late fall part of the season, what most passengers don't realize is that the ship can take more than they can. They always get so scared, in rough seas during the gail season and overblow (hype up) the situation as a result. I also sail up here. I've sailed through some pretty rough stuff, and fear is your biggest enemy. That's why I wont' take random tourists sailing, unpredictable weather combined with an unpredictable scared person never ends well. Just part of being at sea. Can't do anything about the weather. If your that scared of rough seas, you shouldn't be out there.

I did three deployments on an Arleigh Burke class destroyer. It's always funny to me how people complain about mildly bad weather while on a massive cruise ship. I've been on two cruises with my family. On one of them my dad was complaining about how much the ship was rocking, meanwhile I didn't even notice it. I guess it's what you're used to. I could handle crazy rough seas, but I can't say how I'd do being in the desert like Marines or Army.

I’ve been on a cruise when there was a 15-20 degree roll (port and starboard axis). The pool was pouring out and flooding the top deck and staff was running around attempting to rescue outdoor chairs from going overboard. People were upheaving in hallways/lobby areas and some clung onto wall rails. This lasted four hours in the pitch blackness of night. People don’t think about that factor… when this kinda thing is going on, naturally people try to center their equilibriums/balance with the horizon… well, you can’t do that when there’s nothing visible outside. You can barely even make out the ocean.

There's dozens of videos of this happening on other cruise lines all over the internet. Royal, Norwegian, Viking, all of them. Weather can't always be predictable. Sure they could've done more to reassure the guests, but it was just an unfortunate situation.

I don’t like carnival corporations because they made so much money after rented some ships to Louisiana after Katrina for disaster relief at rates higher than they could’ve made under normal operations, AND THEN advertised it as if they lent the ships to Louisiana for free. That might be the reason why I have biases against them.

The captain and crew are not going to make an announcement every single second when they've already made the announcement for everyone to brace thereselves and be prepared for the storm. The other thing is that this is an older ship that was built in 1995 so it will take a beating in a storm compared to newer ones made after 2015. The bottom line is this woman and others were not injured and made it back alive. Therefore Carnival owes them nothing. She can make a claim if she opted for travel insurance.

This ship was originally the Carnival Destiny; in 2013 it went into dry dock and was refurbished. They changed the name to Sunshine after the updates. I always heard in sailing lore it was bad luck to rename a ship.

We were on the QM2 in its first year encountering some substantial weather. certain exterior areas were off limits and after exploring throughout the night during the strongest weather, we did not notice any water where it should not have been . Either it was not as rough or the QM2 is an entirely different boat / better suited for weather?

My wife and I went on 6 cruises. All went well with the exception of one during which there were strong winds and waives. My wife said I wish I was at the office returning emails instead of being on that cruise. I’m done with cruising, I prefer to stay on solid ground. Some people wrote comments about leaving the ship, can you imagine having to board a small boat during a storm? Keep in mind that there are a lot of elderly people that can hardly walk so evacuating a ship is very difficult.
