36:41 - Tom actually kicked Dougray Scott in the face there. You can see Tom breaking character just before the camera cuts. Also, the near eye stab was Tom’s idea and the rock climbing. He made John Woo scared for his (Tom’s) safety.

"I need more dramatic zooms...YES!" Welcome to John Woo! John Woo loves guns, doves, spinning, and zooms. And I love that he loves all that 😁 His Hollywood work is fun - Hard Target, Paycheck, Broken Arrow, Face/Off - but his Hong Kong work is fantastic. I usually suggest Hard Boiled as a good intro to Woo's best stuff. The Killer and A Better Tomorrow should also not be missed.

so many great things about this one. the soundtrack. the director. the action. Jon Woo approaches action a little different and has his signature symbolism show up. Tom Cruise has taken M:I and Ethan Hunt to such a great level. great review as always. keep it going! enjoying this.

It's a really over the top film, but I love it. It came out the year before I first visited Australia, and I've since lived in Sydney for a bit. The landmarks are all over the place and easy to find/recognize. 1) The bad guy's house is a fake that was built at an old pier at Bradley's Head, near Taronga Zoo 2) The fort at the end is Bare Island, on the north side of Botany Bay, at La Perouse 3) The end scene is next to Government House in the Botanic Garden, just east of Circular Quay 4) Where Niyah is thinking of jumping off the cliff is North Head, near Manly 5) The chase scenes were filmed all around Royal National Park

This has always been my favorite of the MI movies, probably because of how shamelessly John Woo made it his own. Also if not for the filming of this one going long over schedule, partially due to a shoulder injury on the actor playing the bad guy, Dougray Scott, said actor would have likely landed the role of Wolverine in the first X-Men film instead of Hugh Jackman, as he was the frontrunner at the time after Russell Crowe had turned down the role.
@codyprice2616

Also, that beach fight scene was so good because other than that choreographed knife and gun part of the fight, Tom Cruise and Dougary Scott actually just beat the hell out of each other. It was the last day of shooting, Tom went up to Dougary and said this fight scene is at the end of shooting we don’t need to look our best with any other scenes with this film instead of doing the choreographed fight now. You just want to beat the hell out of each other. Dougary was game and agreed. So the majority of that fight is improving and beating the hell out of each other.

The knife stopping close to his eye was a real stunt Tom did. They had a wire on the knife to make the knife stop where it did and Tom was there. No CGI on that scene other than taking out the wire.

Keep watching the MI movies! I love them so much. MI2 was a very interesting one, still a lot of great stunts and moments in this one. Tom Cruise is incredible in all these movies - they're like his passion projects for sure. Once you get to MI4 and beyond, you'll see some INSANE stunts and extended action sequences. Loved watching your reaction as always V!! Keep em coming 💚

Here's a fun fact. The bad buy, Dougray Scott, was offered the Role of Wolverine in the X-Men movie that also came out in 2000. He passed it up to play this role and Wolverine went to Hugh Jackman. I wonder if Dougray regrets that decision.
@Bad_Wolf_Media

"He's wanna give him a really cool pair of glasses..." Indeed, when I saw the trailer and this scene I wondered what these were. These are the legendary Oakley Romeo 1.0, first sunglasses made with 3D CAD back in 1997 in cast titanium. They were sold for 250 $ in 1997 and I got them for after the movie for about 385, which also was the catalyst for the sales of Romeos and Oakley didn't even pay them for being featured in MI2. Now, they are sought off discontinued collector's item fetching over 1000 $ an unused pair with all the box and coin. Still getting compliments for those timeless shades and will definitely outlast me....

Hey V. Late comment. One of my favorite sequels of all time. I was all fired up that Hong Kong legend, John Woo was the helmer. The trailers were so good with high expectations. The songs, Limp Bizkit's "Take a Look Around" (Theme from M:I-2) and Metallica's I Disappear were awesome AF. The great Hans Zimmer scored this one and Gladiator, same year. So much energy, pace and presentation. John Woo as an master of action filmmaking brings the heat. Cruise going into action mode was so beyond expectations with great sequences. Dougray Scott (villain Sean Ambrose) was originally casted as Wolverine for X-Men. He was injured during the film's production and couldn't make the scenes on call. So they recasted with 29 year old, Hugh Jackman. This was the No.1 movie of 2000. First highest grossing film of the millenium. Yet it's considered the weakest/hated sequel of the franchise. Because of the reception, M:I-2 is a 'completely' standalone sequel.

Glad to see you enjoyed this one. The best thing about that? This is regarded as the worst in the franchise, and it only gets better from here onwards. When M:I3 came out, it was the best one yet. When M:I Ghost Protocol came out, it was the best one yet. When M:I Rogue Nation came out… you get the picture. And yes, they’re still making them. The trailer you saw would’ve been the current one that’s out in cinema - M:I Dead Reckoning part 1, which is the 7th in the franchise (I’ve seen it, and guess what… it’s the best one yet). Part 2 is due out next summer, and was originally rumoured to be the last one… but recently it’s been hinted that it won’t be. How they plan to top anything they’ve done so far, I don’t think even god knows 😂

Hot take but this is my fav Mission Impossible because of the over the top absurdity. People will tell you it's the worst and the series "really takes off" from MI3 and while I don't disagree that the series is great going forward all the movies except this one just meld into an amorphous mass of "Tom Cruise does ""X"" stunt in this one" to the point where the I can't tell what happens in which movie past MI3. John Woo's style and the idea of Ethan having an agent who was his "shadow" made this by far my fav. I just wish they made Ambrose a franchise antagonist, MI3 has a decent antagonist but after that its white noise

You are the only reactor that I really enjoy to watch, I just feel sorry young people can't forget that they are watching a movie and can't let visual and sound effects, stunts and actors to do their work. As a writer is pretty frustrating for me when someone read the chapter 1 of my stories and inmediately try to guess the ending of the whole story. And as a viewer, would be exhausting for me to watch movies keeping in mind all the time the actor is acting and judging how good or bad he was faking his role.

It's definitely the worst film in the series by a clear margin, if only because it doesn't really feel like a Mission Impossible film. The MI films by and large have a signature blend of creative action setpieces and nail-biting suspense, whereas MI2 for the most part just feels like a fairly typical dumb early-2000s action flick, with a hackneyed love story, dull villain and risible one-liners. That said, I can appreciate it for the John Woo of it all, just for how insanely over-the-top and ridiculous it gets on the action front, especially when paired with Hans Zimmer's absolutely crazy soundtrack. Easily the low-point of the series, but still a lot of fun in a lot of ways, and thankfully the series starts to get a lot better starting with the next one
