Who’s also trying to learn cooking amid the self quarantine lockdown situation now? [Edited] Lol I guessed everyone’s just staying at home and trying to learn new skills... When it comes to learning, I don’t see any problem with age and in fact age is just a number. Applicable in learning and in love life as well. If you feel like doing just do it! And take this lockdown quarantine opportunity to discover your new talent/ reignite your old passion! Stay safe and peace y’all! We can go through this together! Ps: I did try Korean fried chicken, Dalgona coffee, fried ice cream, kimchi jiggae, condense milk coco truffle, spaghetti, claypot chicken rice, Korean street toast for the past two weeks! Another two more weeks to go!

Maangchi, my mother is Korean and my father is American (Caucasian). My mother cooked Korean food but never taught me how. In fact, I never learned the Korean language, except the cuss words she yelled at my father. But I digress. Anyway, I grew up knowing how to pour a bowl of Kellogg’s Frosted Flaked and mastered ordering Pizza Hut. Sad! But now - you are my second Korean mother - I am learning and completing my Korean training to balance my second half of heritage. 감사합니다 !!

Crispy, sweet, tangy, and salty! :) I used chicken fillet and garnished them with toasted sesame seeds instead. Because of my grocery store's limited variety, I substituted: - Red pepper flakes for dried red pepper - Honey for rice syrup - Dried ginger for fresh ginger - Corn starch for potato starch I was so nervous it wouldn't turn out right, that I had this video next to me in the kitchen the whole time! Lol. Thank you for your videos and amazing recipes. 👍😁

@triad64259 жыл бұрын
+eddieisfiction you mean clean the chicken with bleach after cooking it. i honestly feel like this is an immigrant/non American thing. The vast majority of us clean and/or wash everything we consume whether is it rice, meat or vegetables. i think it is a habit that stems from our culture where it is necessary to wash your food. This is just how we grow up clean and wash the food then clean the chicken. There is something unappetizing about unclean chicken

I made this today and it was SO GOOD!!!! I am not good at cooking as I always find a way to mess the recipe up (on this one, I threw in the garlic with the chicken, I forgot it was for the sauce so I quickly removed most of them and the remaining I removed while coating the chicken with the flour lmao). I did some alterations as I didn't have enough ingredients, I'll share them as some people might have the same concerns: - I used chicken drumsticks and didn't cut them into pieces, I just sliced the meat so the inside will be surely cooked - I used all purpose flour instead of cornstarch bc I didn't have cornstarch - I also didn't have ginger so I used a 1/4 tsp of cinnamon instead, didn't really taste any different so I still suggest using ginger - I didn't put peanut and seasme seeds at the end - I didn't try it but if you're curious, yes you can use chili powder or chili flakes instead of dried red peppers - I don't have mustard so I didn't use that too I also suggest marinating the chicken for longer period to seep in the flavor but it's still so good nonetheless!!! I'll definitely make this again! Thank you Maangchi!!! 💕

I did this for dinner last night. I ran out of Mulyeot so i just used Karo corn syrup. Thank you Maangchi. I always watch your cooking video when I crave korean food!❤

Is it okay to use oyster sauce instead of mulyeot?
@aileencura47954 жыл бұрын
Yes I do agree that oyster sauce has a very distinct flavor that is really more used to spice up Chinese cooking. If you cannot find Mulyeot, I think your best alternative is still corn syrup. I used the Karo thick pancake syrup (caramel color) and it came out really delicious. Happy cooking!
@Omylion4 жыл бұрын

The next batch, I pan seared a boneless/skinless chicken thigh(for my wife who won't eat fried food) and then I tossed the chicken thigh in the sauce. She said it tasted like the delicious grilled chicken you get at the Chinese or Korean buffet. I'm making that sauce on EVERYTHING now.

+Kayciez I had the problem that I HAVE an asian store near my area but they didn't have rice syrup. I found out that agave syrup was just a perfect substitute. I would never use honey. It's too thick and sticky and it would rather burn than cook. And it has too much taste to it. For this recipe you don't need a taste of honey, but a syrup-ish sweetness. Honey would overpower the taste.
