I like Ainz as a protagonist and Overlord in general more than most of these another world type shows, because Ainz is a different slice of protagonist than most. Clearly a bad guy that does try to compromise to avoid complete human extinction, but will get his hands dirty and quite brutally if he feels they need to die. Papa Bones has enough bone in him for every lady he comes across, but the girls in general (except for Albedo and maybe Shalltear) don't entirely fawn over him to the point they feel more like accessories than teammates. His allies have enough varied personality to them that it's always fun hearing what they have to say, and being the main character doesn't mean his boys get the shaft either. It's an OP anime about an OP team that acts more like an OP family. They just work better as an entire unit than all the horny women trying to bone the same guy.

My only real problem with Overlord is just that Ainz' behavior is very difficult to relate to because of his Lich sociopathy, meanwhile the show keeps focusing on side characters whose lives and motivations we know are a waste of time because they can't beat Ainz, or because we know he's actively screwing them over without their realizing it. You essentially can't relate to any of the characters and you can't be attached to anyone but Ainz, so my experience with the anime is just that it felt like a fantasy history documentary much of the time.

I might be wrong here, but my theory is that once Ainz Oown Gown (Momonga) became the reality for Momonga, and he had to take him seriously as a "real life" kinda deal, he created Momon just as a means to "roleplay" in what he basically sees as a game / hobby past-time. There wasn't any intent other than that - the whole "I want to learn about the world" is more of an excuse. The whole 'master plan for world domination' as Demiurge says that Momon is, is more of an accident than the real intent XD

Yes and no. He really did want to learn more about the world, hence sending out sebas and shalltear on different missions for different purposes as well as creating the warrior character for himself. But yeah he did look forward to being an adventurer as a way to get out of nazarick and enjoy himself a bit. Taking over the world was entirely an oopsie on his part. he just wanted to say something that sounded deep and meaningful to demiurge and demiurge translated that into "Lets conquer the world."

Entoma was literally the only entity of Nazerick she could beat, and that was only because she was super-specialised to beat her and had 2 other supports to keep the heat off her (its stated in the LN that Entoma would have torn her apart if not for Gagaran and Tia running interference and them having tons of healing items on hand to outlast her). As far as anybody cares, she's still an inferior lifeform regardless of her history.
