I really wanted one of these but one thing I've noticed is that the all wheel drive system is very lazy in these. Doesn't give a lot of support....

It depends on what you want the car to do... You also need to know that this kind of cars with that 4WD system require MOMENTUM when you are trying to tackle an obstacle when off roading... Actually the CR-V 1st Gen was one of the best crossovers in the market, thanks to its fully automatic 4WD system. Of course new systems have traction control and they brake the spinning will to give traction to other wheel in the axel, but by the time of the first CR-V its system was good... And it is still good... You just need to know how to use it... The 4WD system is not lazy at all, I have one... Just dont expect modernism like electronic diff locking... Use the propper tires for the road conditions and you are good to go... It is not a rock climber not a mud digger, take it easy on it... But it is great for bad or muddy roads, creeks crossing and so, conditions where a non 4WD vehicle wont get over. You have no idea how much people still have their CR-V 1st Gen, with mods like lifting for better off road performance... Because it is a very dependable car with a functional 4WD system... Remember, proper tires and ground clearance make a huge difference...
