Someone once asked me who my favorite male singer was. I said John Martyn, and they just stared at me blankly . No one I knew had a clue who he was. I was obviously on the wrong side of the pond. I wish Michael Macdonald would cover more of his songs, he's the only one that could do that voice justice.

This is almost painful to watch. Such a remarkable talent at one with the song and the music but underneath a tormented soul. John you gave me so much joy and inspired me to take up the guitar and I’m still listening to you as so many are.

It was nice to read this today. Best wishes for the new year. Just suggested to a friend of mine to learn May You Never. It's as though John Martyn knew him.

@@l.w.paradis2108 so many of johns songs still feel so personal to me. I guess that’s where his genius lay - the ability to touch people with his music. May you never is such a song. And it’s a joy to play and sing (even badly by me 😂)

I have very precious photo of John when he was standing backstage on the soft bank London. I asked if I could take a picture and he gave me the most beautiful smile back which I captured ❤

John, John, John ! Man, you could give feeling to a dread fish ! RIP you wonderful, if tormented soul ! I'll never forget that day in 1974 when you allowed me some time & even tho' I didn't know who you were, I could enjoy a person without the trappings of fan fame....

I love this guy's music so ... he transmits feelings you can taste. All wrapped up in raw emotion. When I feel a little melancholy, and sad, it's John who has been there too, that I turn to. Rapid remedy.👍
