He was a man they made a meme. In 2010, 2 time champion Rocky Lockridge appears on the TV show intervention. Spent 15 years battling addiction. Included in the episode were the sons he’d left behind. Deep into the heart wrenching discussion, a stoic front shatters. It was a cry that bordered on scream. An outpouring of love and rage and shame. The pain of a lifetime of more or less spectacular defeats. It went viral. The cruel laughed at his cathartic cry. For some people, it’s all they know of him. And that is a crying shame.

Yeah, this was a good one. Hadn’t heard of him before watching this, but he was a great fighter that took his shot, and fell short against some of the best. He invested so much of himself into it, that when he was done, and had fallen short, it really took it’s toll on him. For whatever the reasons were, he backed away from his family, and turned to alcohol & drugs. It was great to see him turn things around, and make peace with his family. Great shot of him greeting his sons, embraced in a hug, and smiles from all of them. R.I.P.

My father rejected me all my life and he end up passing away before we could ever reconcile. After we buried him and all was said and done. I was at church in service. I let out a cry the same as this from the very depth of my soul. It was me at peace and healing from all rejection and pain I felt and carried all those years. After that I felt the weight of the world off my shoulders. Even though I still lived life, and did not hold any bitterness in my heart that pain was still deeply rooted their and had to be released. Great story and God bless you.

Part of Rocky's shattering fall was the championship that was refused to Rocky by these judges and it's very clear that he had won those fights which eventually caused Rocky to crumble into a down spiral of mental loses as well! I have to respectfully disagree. Those struggling with addiction for multiple decades don’t break down when being condemned and insulted. That’s how they feel about themselves. What breaks an addict’s heart is when the people most negatively affected still love and see value in you. Rocky was absolutely stoic the entire Intervention when they said they hated him. No reaction at all. But when the son who was the most upset said he still loved his dad, that’s what broke him.

I honestly just struggle to identify emotions from body language and facial expressions. I also have a difficult time feeling emotions. It’s not that I don’t “understand”, it’s more that I don’t experience the depth of emotion that “normal” people do. I have always been extremely pragmatic in my life and have become accustomed to using logic and reasoning in place of emotion. I suppose on some level I do feel sympathy and/or empathy, but again, I have tremendous difficulty feeling them the way “normal” people do.

I think anyone that worked hard for the type of results that he put down, would likely end up beating themselves up, like those that were beating them up. Seems like he kept trying to prove that he was the best to individuals that could care less about his best, much less his value. *Sometimes, (especially when you get a good taste of unfairness, corruption and all that's blatantly obviously dysfunctional) it's best to take what you've been blessed with and use it to serve self. Because the reality of who a high percentage of individuals are as well as is capable of senselessly doing (with or without a smile) is always interesting......

@@donjohn2695 But no one who sees/saw that meme even knew the guy's name, let alone that he was a Boxing champ. Hell most don't even know that it was taken from the reality tv-series "Intervention". So i doubt a single [person who saw it thought how it demonstrated that even tough guys can cry. To them it's just a guy with a hilarious cry, that's it. Making a meme out of an addict who at possibly the lowest point of there life - that alone is disgusting, regardless of knowing Rocky's backstory

Damn this was a good video!….WOW. This guy was great, and like a lot of African fighters in the 1980’s, he was also robbed of fame, after clearly being superior to Latin fighters…Such ashame….I used to laugh at the crying meme, but now I realize, the man was crying with every bit of energy he had left in his body…😢. He had two beautiful sons, that really cared about him. Glad they all could reconcile before he passed!….Rest well champ!….🕊️❤️🥊

Crying from that depth isn't cute & doesn't need to be. It's just too bad that so many people only see the clip of him with no context and no back story. My father was barely in my life. I learned Not to be like that at all. I been in my kiddos life from the womb and hopefully to my tomb. Being a father in a child's life is so important.. more than you'll ever know. Nothing or nobody is more important the love, attention and care you give your kiddos. Shouts to all those real fathers out their grinding, gritting, hustling and working that 9 to 5 to keep a roof over their heads food on the table, protecting and guiding their kiddos in the riight direction.

Absolutely awe-inspiring! A real life Rocky story. A man who threw back blows and took punches just as well as he gave until he was and earn a well deserved Champion where pernicious man cheated him of his Championship; life cheated him into homelessness and dispair. But love , true love was the beacon that brought him back to experience sobriety before checking out. For me, the story brought me to fresh and cleansing tears. 😢 😢 😢.
