Some people now hearing this type of music would be weirded out so I couldn't even imagine the reaction at the time or in the 2000s, especially with Alice as a women being objectified or simply dismissed as just "crazy" (when a guy would be seen as "badass"). Alice did say people would try to grope her or throw things at her and the band on stage (as you can literally see here). Their music was dangerous, but she still expressed herself chaotically and kept pushing, definition of inspirational

I’m just wondering how drunk she was at every performance. She slams down fifths of Vodka like Evian water. Would she be able to give the same performance if she wasn’t completely trashed? I feel sad for her in some way. I see the old footage and it seems transparent that she’s emotionally wounded. Maybe things are different now. She’s very beautiful but destroys herself with alcohol while everyone cheered it on. I don’t think her fans truly gave a shit about her as a real person.

@@richmoreno9938 yeah it was always weird , before Alice’s statement went out you could tell there was something wrong. But I feel the reason the fans didn’t connect with her as a person was because there was no way to, their identity was so hidden we knew nothing about them but their music and performances
@julydays41942 жыл бұрын
I saw them live twice. It was a smaller venue the 2nd time and she seemed so free and unleashed. I haven't felt that amazed by a live performance since. I think everyone in the crowd felt it. I remember everyone reaching to touch her as she crowdsurfed on her knees. There was no way of knowing at the time what was going on, but she absolutely commanded the stage. Hope you find yourself well, Alice!

I think many of us could tell that she was in so much pain and could relate to it in some way while we were suffering and/or destroying ourselves too; I won't say I wasn't shocked when she released her statement, but it made so much sense. I really hope it doesn't come across as though I'm romanticising it because there's nothing romantic about it: it's fucking horrible. In that same implicit, weird parasocial way she seems a lot happier now, and that should be important to anyone who considers themselves a fan of hers.
