I know many arctic mammals need places to surface to breath. The ice breakers will make lanes that the seals and whales can travel as well. You never know this could make a very positive impact on the local wildlife. I live in Ontario and always notice the deer tracks on top of my snowshoe tracks. My trail blazing helps them get around too. I've always been intrigued by antarctic cruises, it is great to see that arctic cruises are an option as well. This is a vast and beautiful land that we live in. It is always great to be able to see some more of it.

A few cruise ships per year is certainly a LOT better than having cargo and tanker ships using the passage on a regular basis. There is nothing saying Canada can't craft regulation to limit whatever they want. Much in the way in the past how tourism to the Galapagos was tightly controlled, so can this be. It's up to the people of that region especially, but also the rest of the people in Canada to TELL the government to BAN cargo and tanker traffic through that region and have cruise ships meet stringent requirements just to be allowed in. And then limit numbers per season. It doesn't have to be an "all or nothing" scenario.

***** I know...but that is the fault of the people themselves.

***** It's the job of people to find out things on their own. The information is out there. You know it, right? I know it. See? It's out there. So if the information is out there then it's obviously an issue of propaganda. Canadians are just like Americans. (and every other population in every other country in the world.) So Canadians are too lazy to see past the corporately owned Canadian media to find out what's really going on and elect people who they believe would REALLY change things. I mean...we can whine and complain about the politicians being in the pockets of special interests. And there is no doubt they are. But as corny as it sounds, ultimately WE put them into power. So yeah...it's the people's fault.

***** lol....naive....yeah.. I get it dude...I've read chomsky, bagdikian, james winter..etc....and I consider myself a student of media and propaganda. I'll put up my knowledge of it against anyone anytime. Clearly you didn't read my response to you. You went off on a rant about corporate control of media and control of politicians, after I CLEARLY said the same thing in my post. Your emotional response is based on you only seeing what you wanted to see in my post and ignoring the actual content. So all you've really done is regurgitate what the problem is. Well....I'm already 10 steps ahead of you. I already know those are the problems. My response to you was an idea for a solution, and you completely missed the point. Naive as you might think it is.....really the only solution is people demanding change. Change to all the institutional problems. INCLUDING media ownership and control of information. But media ownership is a different issue so I did not discuss it here. And again....you know about corporate control of media and how they "twist" the news, and I know it, and so do LOTS of other people. In fact almost my entire circle of friends is completely aware of this. So the information IS out there. We chose to find it right? Stop acting like people can't learn about this stuff. It's you who is naive. Thinking you're the only one who knows some big secret everyone else doesn't. As Chomsky says...people will either do something about this stuff or they won't. The public has been blitzed by healthcare privatization propaganda, in Canada for decades by the corporate right wing media. And it constantly fails. Why? Because on THAT issue the public has learned and experienced enough on their own to KNOW that a US system would be a disaster. So much so that even the biggest corporate whores like Mulroney and Harper KNOW they can't touch that issue. If people don't MAKE the time to look deeper into issues in spite of being "busy with their lives". Well....then they only have themselves to blame when the shit hits the fan. But by all means....suggest another plausible way to change the system to something more along the lines of what the both of us really want. I'll be the first in line if it works.

This could be revolutionary, the most inexpensive route from the Pacific to the Atlantic, all under control of Canada, i heard that the Americans want the NW passage to be open waters, those are Canadian waters mate, in the middle of nunavut.

This cruise was one of the most amazing travel experiences I have ever had. I now understand my Canadian Northland much better than I ever did before. Being there gave me an insight that I could never have received via videos and books. Hearing my Canadian Anthem in the Inuit language was such an emotional event I was almost in tears, I was so moved. Crystal is to be congratulated for their flawless planning of a trip that had so much excitement and joy for passengers and crew. The expedition speakers were so informative and the evening entertainment most enjoyable. What a treat to be one of those on the first cruise!

looks awesome, but I'm not in position to spend $45K on a trip for 2 even if it is a 32 day cruise, it does look worth the money though.

Very interesting. It's hard to see what lays ahead for the arctic. In a couple hundred years that coastline might be just as populated as the east and west coasts, and the current cities located on east and west coasts might be under water. Or it'll just remain remote forever. Who knows?

Unless the landscape dramatically changes i can hardly see the attraction of the area. I've grown up in northern Alberta and not everyone loves it, most are there for the oil & gas money

..... Google Crystal Serenity bridge webcams and you will be able to follow her as she travels the world. I actually followed along, via the bridge webcam as she travelled the Northwest Passage the last 2 Summers! Last week I followed her sister ship Crystal Symphony travail the Panama Canal! A lot of cruise ships have bridge webcams, but the Crystal ships have 4K quality streaming video, which is refreshed about every 5 to 10 minutes.

So take advantage of climate warming ?
@user-earthandfire7 жыл бұрын
Golbal warming is a fact, not saying humanity is to blame, but we are stuck with it either way. I am sure many things will change, and this is just one of the possible benefits, there will be others. Juxtaposed to that there will be many disastrous events also. The north will have an influx of money, and that will be needed to help build the infrastructure needed to be put in place by the Canadian government, there will be more cruisers, cargo ships, tankers and in time oils and gas platforms. Global warming wont just go away, it is already to late to stop, we may be able to slow it, but it is to late now to reverse it. We just need to learn to adapt to it. As for the perfect photo opportunity with the polar bears, enjoy them while you can, they will most probably become extinct :(
