I always knew ambiversion was a load of crap. I figured after watching various sessions of yours, that we were simply transitioning into our shadow type briefly. As said, everyone is a thinker, everyone is a feeler, etc. But there is that primary we use. An introvert can be in a discussion and enjoy it, maybe not forever, but they can be, especially if it's a topic of interest for them. Same an extravert can be by themselves and enjoy it, also, not forever, but can be in it for a good period of time. The ying-yang concept is perfect for this. You were extra entertaining to watch today, Chase. 😂

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong: If 2 initiating individuals come into contact, they will both try to assert themselves as THE initiator in their interactions, thus forcing the other to cognitively shift into a responding type. The one who prefers extraversion more will outlast/dominate the other. (The more similar their preferences, the longer it will take to decide who is dominant [this may or may not be reached]). This could also be said for responding: they will try to outlast each other and make the other person have to shift to an initiating type. Based on that, there could be some people (an initiator who is regularly is forced to be a responder, or a responder who is regularly is forced to be an initiator), and we could consider this phenomena to be a so-called ambivert. So maybe an "ambivert" initiator can't get their mental energy recharged until they can find someone that they can interact with. But as an extravert and not as a responder. And maybe if they can't get recharged, their superego busts itself out. Thoughts?
@someonerandom7135 жыл бұрын
Wether you're being accurate or not on the matter, I'm sure Chase just wants the term eradicated. It's a very "systematic" matter. By your example, I'd say anyone is a potential ambivert. Or the phenomenon, as you say. But not the person themselves. What you say first is true. I for example am an ENFJ. And it has happened before that my ENFP friend is so initiating that I go ISTP in response. I also notice the temptation to "jump down the four steps" to ESTJ superego when some people wont let me talk, so that I can violently force them to be the responder. That doesn't even have to be extraverts, it can be introverts in their subconscious or unconscious, too.
@timbeer82665 жыл бұрын
@@someonerandom713 Yes, I like the idea that it is not the person. Anyone could become an "ambivert", provided that the aforementioned conditions are met (supposing that it is indeed accurate), and only for that duration of that scenario. Sayings like, "I'm more ambiverted," or anything derived from the definition on in blue on CSJ's whiteboard, can't have any significance. So, I guess I'm saying that the word, "ambivert" could be repurposed.
@margos6665 жыл бұрын
hah, so reminds me of every time people are shocked to learn I am introverted: 'But you are always so bubbly and happy and talkative! But You've scored 50/50 on your MBTI test and got a perfect ENTJ-INTJ split, so you must be that bossy ENTJ!' Little they know I've been married to my subconscious since the age of 11 and it took me at least 3 years to merge with it (I remember the very day in July 2006 I forced myself into ESFP mode for 3 weeks as an experiment and the results were life-changing). So yes, here we are: an introverted introvert who is accused of being an extraverted ambivert just because I automatically switch into the ESFP-mode whenever interacting with most of the people.
@bafbaas12105 жыл бұрын
I think most people wouldn't identify with the Jungian type psychology. A lot of people I know find the idea that people are put in boxes based on personality absolutely stupid. So to them ambivert, extraverted, introverted are all relative. These terms can exist beyond your theory. You can show what is believed to be extraversion while being an Isfp. Because people aren't looking for functions normally, they're just observing behaviour and sometimes look for the reasons behind the behaviour. But if an Isfp was acting suuper extraverted you can't tell other people he isn't cause that's the characteristic he is displaying.

@@CSJoseph What I mean is that you show tendencies to judge other people's points from within your worldview, while they were clearly not on the same page. For example, I can vaguely recall that in a recent Q&A stream you answered a question regarding intelligent design. You said that someone was being wrong about something, because God would have all eight functions in the hero slot, therefore he uses Ni hero and is very intentional about his creation. You were implying this understanding of God to be somewhat universal, expecting the other person to agree with that idea and thus having to agree with your stance, or being illogical. People once believed the earth is flat, so I see your approach there. Assuming you're right, that's still not exactly how you convince those "flat earthers" to pay any attention to your arguments. It might be a pragmatic & systematic + informative thing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Doesn't really go along with my understanding of critical thinking.
@bafbaas12105 жыл бұрын
@@CSJoseph Yhea that sounds kinda dismissive, who knows which theory about psychology is wrong. These terms are just human creations. They are used by people to describe behaviour, and you use it to fit your theory. Words are words and are probably changed to fit your theory, not other way around.

Ambiversion (definition) - The wishful delusion that a person is both extraverted and introverted. Often caused by an extreme sense of insecurity and discomfort with one's true self. Those afflicted often exhibit rash and defensive outbursts after being typed, assuming the expert is wrong and that they, indeed, are a "special case." This disorder, if left untreated, can lead to a more extreme version - the delusion that one is, in fact, two different types (or perhaps all 16 types) simultaneously.

!! The being forced back into the ego part is very, very telling, considering DSP's theory. Like, going outside of our way to develop our weaker sides, fully knowing it will be a draining experience. Our mind will want to go back to ego autopilot. I assume anyways that both frameworks got truth to them and it is the different approach and the different translation which lead to disagreements. Ultimate truth *will* emerge.

You also answered my unasked question in this video; in trying to determine someone's type; I need to look at how they're behaving MOST of the time. (And take into consideration how my own type may be affecting our interactions). Super interesting stuff.

It seems like introverts, especially Ti-users like myself, might experience this drainage during one-on-one intereactions because of the 'inner voice'. For me, it sometimes feels like my Ti synthesizes another person to engage in dialogue with. I wouldn't be surprized if the Fi has something similar, but I wouldn't know (maybe something similar to the shoulder angel/devil?). If an Fi-user reads this, I'd love to hear your take. Anyway, if a person who does this automatically doesn't know how to shut off their inner voice, they might view another person as a third party. Edit: In the same way, it seems conceivable that an introvert might be so unified with their significant other (or maybe even a close family-member) that a three-person interaction might be considered introverted, if one of the other parties is the aforementioned person.
@itsmeraz30082 жыл бұрын
Oh that's a fascinating point! Fi user here, and that's very interesting with my inner voice and someone else. I have found even when I am having a good time engaging with other people, I need a lot of time to just listen to 'myself', and if I can't do that , then I can feel tired very quickly. So in many ways I don't mind a third person involved in the conversation as it takes the pressure away for being so constantly present listening to the other person.

I am introverted and I've been feeling so drained and tired all the time and it would only get worse when going to class and this sensation would go on a bit even when I am home and I think its because my phone works as an energy drainer since even when Im alone , I know that at any moment my "me moment" could be ruptured with messages , calls and etc to the point that I am watching most of my videos on my pc, wich I've been taking to the bathroom and the kitchen when watching something despite that phone being a lot easier. Altough I understand why the comparison, it's not quite accurate( as a person dibbling in the TCM and Chinese astrology, mostly for fun and to check out if they actually work, TCM at least works for me, also the system of actually caring for the patient and not only countering the illness seems more just to me) since there can be yang water(large lakes are an example, you can affect them but kinda hard to do it at a bigger level) as well as yin water(rain, cloud , mist), The same applies for yang fire(sun) and yin fire (a flickering candle).

Could you please help? I've struggled with this one for years. I tend to initiate topics of conversation and talk lots (being informative unless I'm being distracted), but I find 3+ situations very draining. I want to have a slow deep conversation with someone, and cannot manage that with too many people at once! I feel a breath of fresh air when we lose the 3rd+ wheel. I like to mine other minds for information and to share my knowledge and experience for the benefit of others, so I initiate and talk a lot. Am I an introvert or an extrovert? I'm also confused how I am pessimistic and parent-like with warning people about the consequences of their actions/habits on their future (Ne), yet I'm also very heroic with what I want (life goals - e.g. move here, do this, create that) Ni. It's easy for me to have preferences, but I don't really think about how I feel (except in doing what's right, being aligned to my values, tasting something I enjoy) Fi. Yet I'm always reliving the past to extrodinary level of detail, and wishing I could have done it differently (which sounds like strong Si), yet also paranoid about people's intentions (will they take advantage of or lie to me?) -nemesis Ne? I do have performance anxiety in fear of people ignoring me or cutting ties, and worry how people feel I think only to the extent that they would continue to listen and grow, and I tend to see errors in logic and in stats/graphs/research while still seeing the value of citing sources. I'm so confused which NF type I am since I have strong elements of them all. :S I cannot join the discord server because husband will not allow me to give away my phone number for security reasons :) Even on things like DISC profile I score equal in all areas! XD Is there value in being a 'generalist' like that -developing each side of the mind to such extent? Or shall I find and focus on making the most of my ego?
