This is mind boggling to us here in UK. Your enormous loading gauge and length of trains is amazing. We have track circuits that limit train length. I'm guessing all those locos were not needed for traction and are to avoid what we would call "light engine" transfers. Brilliant catch, thank you sir.

I've a bonus: the white tanker cars at the end. Let's face it i liked it all. Great camera work & a gorgeous city view as well. 👋👋👋👋👋👋👍👌✅⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

They are not all running, probably just 2 or 3. There are limits on how many powered axles can be used. The extra engines are most likely dead in tow, they must be on the headend with the other locomotives.

Now that was impressive!!! All the years I did train watching at Baileys, Halethorpe, and other B&O locations around town, I never saw a 10 unit lash-up on a freight train. That was a smart thing for that pedestrian to do - smack the last car as it passed like he was punishing the train for making him wait to cross the street. Good thing his hand didn't get caught on something....it would have been a real drag.

It is not uncommon to have a train with this many locomotives for one reason. It is a power move. Only the first 2 engines, maybe the third are online and pulling. The rest are moving for a variety of reasons. Power re positioning, heading for maintenance, heading for storage, heading for inspection etc etc.

You guys have so much power on your consist’s up here on a manifest we have maybe four locomotives. Shoot the other day I was by the yard by my house and the manifest leaving the yard had one loco on the head and they stuck one on the back cause he was complaining he didn’t have enough power.
