As a former iguana owner, getting a male iguana to have this kind of loving personality and not be a total A-hole is a HUGE achievement, it really shows love and dedication. Reptiles don't have a frontal lobe to their brains like humans, the part that controls emotions and communication and closeness and affection... but it's odd, when you care for them enough and spend enough time showing them love, they seem to take on very "mammal-like" aspects to their personality. I've seen it over and over and it gives me hope that maybe humans will also learn to be loving someday.

@tradde11 - Also, many people aren't prepared for the activity levels of puppies, kittens, and certain breeds of dogs. And some people get a dog, expecting to control them, when every dog is their own being with a unique personality and their own will. And some people get a cat, thinking that they don't have to do much with them and then don't like it when the cat doesn't want to be treated like a doll (e.g., picked up and petted when they don't want to by a person who didn't develop a relationship with them). Lastly, humans have bred serious (and expensive) health issues into a lot of dog breeds.

I love seeing reptiles receive this kind of love, devotion, and care. Thank you for showing people how full of affection and personality they can be, and emphasizing how much care they need, and that like any pet, they deserve time, love, and happiness. (I'll never forget the first time I held a snake, and realized how misperceived they are; that they're warm, curious, and fascinating. I was 5, and I fell in love that day. I've never had a reptile-pet, but they have a very special place in my heart and interacting with them is an absolute joy.)

I can relate. I wanted to be a herpetologist. I bought my first snake, first reptile ever at 40 years old. A 30 inch burmese python. She is 5 ft now one year later and I just got a baby carpet python. I hope to buy a house soon for more space for my babies and some more brothers and sisters! I'm in an rv and my female burm will definitely need more space 😆

@@hellhathfurywedie9319 I envy you and your beautiful babies. The pythons I've met have been wonderful creatures - I remember a baby ball python I saw in a pet store back in 2011, and being so jealous of the person who got to take her home and love her for decades. I've never met a Burmese or a carpet. What are their personalities like? I remember my ex's dad telling me he gave up his rosy boa for his wife, and it made me so sad. This might sound terrible, but I remember thinking, "You should have kept the boa. Poor girl. She was your lifelong lady." They're a half-a-lifelong commitment, and need to be treated as such. I'm very happy to hear that yours are so loved. 💜

It's completely understandable that not everyone feels comfortable or has a natural affinity for giant reptiles like iguanas. People have different preferences when it comes to pets, and that's perfectly fine. The most important thing is that those who choose to care for animals like iguanas provide them with the proper care, love, and attention they need to thrive. Bonds between humans and their pets can take many forms, and it's heartwarming to see people develop such connections with animals of all kinds.

For all of our intelligence, we're pretty stupid. If you don't socialize a human child, they will be seriously limited cognitively and socially (not even being able to speak and having great difficulty learning to speak as an adult). Lots of other animal species can also significantly change from socialization with humans. That's certainly true of iguanas and many other reptile species. These aren't inherenty "dumb animals." They've evolved to survive in the environments they've typically been in. And they have intelligence to learn and adapt to some new environmental circumstances. That's a big reason why they still exist because they don't reproduce as quickly, or with as many offspring, as some other species to have rapid genetic adaptations.

It’s essential to do THOROUGH, in-depth research about the exact species you’re interested in, and have your enclosure, lamps, etc. tested and optimized before bringing any reptile home. Agree or not, but animals in my opinion, are part of a collective consciousness and each are gifted with unique characteristics. Animals love affection, understand safety, security, danger, fear, and are hardwired for survival. Environment clearly plays a part, they know or come to understand who feeds them, nurtures them, comforts them when to fight, when to run. Sancho is a reptile, not a cat or a lap dog. Why the hell a class would take on an exotic is beyond me. He was suffering. Thanks to this family! He’s a beauty of a beast. Not easy, but he’s God’s creature.

Yeah... I do too. This may not be the case at all, but you gotta wonder about that previous 3rd grade owner and his fam. I imagine people sometimes get pets for kids to learn empathy, compassion, and responsibility ON... which makes some degree of sense. So they're unfortunately kinda' stuck with being training grounds that take our early mistakes. I remember my little cousin and his cat... sry, but I wanted to punch that little boy in his face. Among many other things, he would literally (NOT figuratively) swing this little sweet Himalayan cat by his tail (it ended up broken at some point and he always had mysterious "sensitive" areas of his body that would arise out of nowhere). Then it was, "We just don't know why Casper is so skittish and hides all the time!" Uh, I might be able to take a stab at solving that enigma for ya'. Get your millionaire-sadist son some serious mental help and preferably keep him caged forever. He'll probably grow up to be in charge of a lot of people's lives, of course.

We really didn’t know much about the family. We found him in the classifieds for people getting rid of their pets. The family didn’t have money, and we could tell right away he needed to be “rescued”. We still paid the family money, brought him home. He pooped on me and then fell asleep lol His tail amputation was a little over two years ago, nothing to do with him being a class pet. All his spikes that are missing, definitely from improper care. 3 years ago, he had major stomach surgery to remove a penny he ingested over a decade ago 😔. We almost lost him But being a class pet of 3rd graders, I can totally see how it happened

@@luceatlux7087Seems like a little socio/psychopath in the making - hurting animals is an early sign of that. If I saw my cousin doing that to an animal I WOULD punch him in the face. (or I should say, had I seen him when I was much younger, I'm in my late 30's, lol)

I guess his parents didn't realize they were raising a serial killer!

A green iguana as a class pet? That was a disaster waiting to happen. Glad everyone kept their fingers and Sancho didn't pay the price

He is more like a cat. He shows love by just wanting to be around us lol When he goes to the vet, or when I come home after a trip.. he just wants all the snuggles. He’s so sweet
