I take a look at the Spanish made The Cudeman 409-L Vendetta. Cudeman makes a wide range of folding and fixed blade knives.

The notch lock is a simple but effective help with making a slip joint safer to use, more companies should adopt it. 😁

Good review of an interesting knife with a lot of history. The Cudemans look well enough made and an excellent size for edc, imo. Thanks Tobias.

@@KnifeChatswithTobias that's crazy. Any thoughts on why it wasn't adopted more commonly?

I’ve been looking at these. They also do a lock-back version. It is a feature that I insist on in a folder. Also not quite enough resistance to slide on the bolster - I still have the scar from 40 years ago due to this. Good review on a neat knife! The trouble with many of the eBay and AliExpress knives is that the steel is a lottery despite the claims. I have a nice folder with “M390” stainless that will not hold an edge. Some others do. That Damascus knife is neat and I like its rusticity, but practically useless. 👍🏻

Cool knife! Interesting that it has that semi-locking notch. My "real" Corsican Vendetta knife ( I described under your last video) has a very deep notch similar to that. I think the idea is that if your thumb is pushing down on the backspring it (sort of) locks the blade. I still wouldn't want to undertake a vendetta with mine though!

Tobias you mentioned wanting a more quality vendetta knife. Have you looked at the knives of France web site? The carry French manufactured blades and I noticed they had a few vendetta offerings.

Really appreciate the history and I get I don't buy Pakistan knives just for the sharpening reason. However love the back story as much as the knife. Thanknk you

Maybe I just got lucky, but my recently acquired Pakistani Damascus-blade knives have been pretty easy to sharpen. I’ve had some of them for years and they’ve held up well. 🤔I like the looks of this Cudeman - reminds me somewhat of the “Joker” #75…

Damascus steel looks nice and if the heat treatment is done correctly, it can be a decent steel. Like you said, you take your chances with no name Damascus.

Looks like a beautifully made knife! Is he bump that acts as a semi-lock similar to the bump on the Victorinox caplifter/screwdriver?
@KnifeChatswithTobias
@KnifeChatswithTobias 17 күн бұрын
Yes. The bump is similar to the Victorinox. However, the Victorinox has a flattened end to the tang the creates a half stop and the bump is right at the apex. This allows the caplifter to “semi lock” at the half stop as well as when all the way open. This kind of makes it the best of both worlds when it comes to slip joints!

Hi Tobias: Thanks for the review. Cudeman makes a nice knife. I do find it a bit odd that they use an elephant as their logo instead of something that’s more identifiable with Spain. It’s OK with me…..I have a thing for elephants. 🐘 👍😊

Funny thing is, I have the same feeling about the Cudeman Elephant. IMO, the quality is excellent for the price you pay. I've been happy with everything I've bought from them.

@@KnifeChatswithTobias If one were to use a Cudeman knife as an EDC, would that be construed as…….. “Packing a Pachyderm?” 👀🙄

I have had a few "Damascus" knives and ended up getting rid of them because they don't hold an edge
@KnifeChatswithTobias

I have a few that I keep. But I am under no illusion about the quality of the steel. Some are better than others. Typically if it has a name brand, it tends to be better. But the unbranded is stuff out of Pakistan is not going be that good, even for everyday chores, such as opening your next knife purchase. However, I do have a couple of Damascus push daggers that perform fairly well as something to punch holes in stuff. Those are probably my favorite.
