I have this model. Mine has been very dependable for the last five years, and as long as I do a proper cleaning once in a while, it may go another five years. It grinds everything from very fine espresso to a coarse grind. ☕️ I have not had to order parts yet but they are readily available and easy to get.

Make sure you clean the Cuisinart grinder every 3 or 4 months! Twist the hopper anticlockwise until it pops off, then get in there with a dental pick/brush/vacuum. Mine whimpered and died...but after cleaning it came back.

I've had several of this model over the last seven years or so--longer if I bought it from a retail store before I ordered from Amazon, I can't remember. First it is noisy--at one point I was putting a doubled bath towel over it to damped the noise. Sometimes I just leave the room. Other times it doesn't seem as bad. I got very good coffee from it, although it would start to be inconsistent the burrs were wearing out, maybe the copper with the burr was getting a little loosen the thread causing inconsistent grind, not sure. A couple years ago I tried the Fellow Ode 2, a roughly $350 grinder, but it would shut off before grinding all the beans, since it was advertised as a single dose machine with auto shut off, I returned it. Although I was having a problem maybe with a bad batch of coffee beans and an automatic drip coffee maker that was starting to fail, even so the Cuisinart gave a fuller flavor than the Fellow Ode 2. I also bought a $200 oxo conical burr grinder, couldn't get very good coffee with that. And the $200 IZpresso ZP6 SPECIAL hand grinder which was said to be good for filter coffee, ordered from Taiwan, which I got in a week. That was the worst grinde--I didn't mind the effort, but when it produces bitter coffee with a rubber taste no matter what grind setting I selected, it's a complete waste. The key thing with the Cuisinart is to find the exact right grind for a particular coffee bean and coffee maker--in my experience it needs to be finer rather than coarser to give a fuller flavor and less bitterness--sort of counterintuitive. I have a theory that is actually the fines that it produces that gives the broader spectrum flavor profile, as opposed to some of these newer machines touted by connoisseurs for clarity that really limit the flavor profile. By the way, although there are clicks when you adjust the grind, think it is in effect continuously adjustable, as sometimes the clicks are very weak, inconsistent, and don't seem to lock it in place, I just set it wherever I want. A few years ago they changed the motor in the Cuisinart so it ran a little quieter, started slower and maybe got faster at the end, I'm not sure, but I could not get it to come out right with a new models, usually designated DBM-8P1. I also use the single dose method and let it run until all the beans are ground--if I set the slider all the way to to the maximum, it would usually grind all the beans (a little over 6 tablespoons) about six or seven seconds before it stopped. With the model with the new motors beans were still be popping after it shut off at maximum and it would be very hard to get them all caught by the burr. But the main problem was the coffee didn't taste the same. When they changed the motor I guess they didn't realize or didn't care that it would affect the quality of the grind. So now I had one new one that I wasn't using and I continue to use the older one with a stronger motor. A couple of years ago I purchased from eBay two new of these Cuisinart grinders that did not have the P1 designation at the end, thinking they would have the older, stronger motor. I just now got them out and tried them because it seemed the burrs were finally wearing out on my older machine, I discovered they also had the weaker motor even though they weren't designated P1. However I took the hopper with the top burr off one of the new ones and put it on my older machine and it seems to have restored it to functionality. Maybe I disassemble the bottom burr from one of the new ones and put it on too, although I'm not sure if that can be done. After that I would have two more sets of burgers for the future, assuming original stronger motor keeps going, but usually that's not the part that fails, I think. As a last ditch effort I found a couple more on eBay without the P1 designation and asked the sellers how old the units actually were, that is how long they had them. One seller got back to me and said her husband had bought it four or five years ago, so I was pretty sure it had the older motor and I just ordered it. It may all be moot, because a few days ago I preordered the best reviewed machine for filter coffee, the $699 Timemore Sculptor 078, designed and manufactured in China. They say it will ship about May 20, so hopefully I'll get it within six or seven weeks.

I just gave that to a neighbor who was using a blade grinder and I was using it for over 10 years and it's still working great! Never had any problem with any beans OILY or not! I bought a espressione grinder and it wouldn't let the dark oily Italian roast beans down to the grinder. I will be buying a Breville smart grinder in the near future. The Cuisinart mill is a workhorse for me to get medium grind for a reusable K-Cup and I enjoyed that when I set it to 10 cups it filled the output. Static happens! Stop complaining about it! Complaint about the loudness is like a construction worker complaining about their circular hand or table saw is too loud so they quit their job! Get over it! It's only $48

I was wondering if this Cuisinart burr grinder overheats and stops? Also do the somewhat crusher blades wear out?
@CorkandJava

@@trishlith it's never overheated and stopped for me, but it's never been used for more than 45 seconds at a time. The blades will eventually wear out, but probably not before other components. Should last for many years without noticing a difference. Just make sure to keep it clean and try to avoid flavored coffees.

It says in instructions you're not supposed to wash or get the grind chamber wet. The hopper with the top burr unscrews and comes off, and you can wash and dry that separately

I bought this thing, what a waste of money. I thought it was supposed to be a burr grinder, but it sounds like a blender to me. I didn't bother looking inside, so I'm surprised that you're saying it has grinding blocks inside. sounds like blades to me. If you use filters its ok but it's too fine for a percolator.
