Cultural splendor unfolds as Ladakh Festival 2024 begins

Way back in the eighties and nineties when only foreign travellers visited ladakh,there was an atmosphere of pride and dignity. We were proud to show them our monasteries,our culture,our heritage and our simple way of ladakhi life. The guests in return took in all that was there to offer. They were grateful even for the simplest thing a ladakhi offered,sometimes a room to stay free,at times inviting them for a cup of tea or a meal and all free. They trekked to the remotest village by foot and soaked in our rural life later documenting in movies or journals and that was tourism in real sense. Right now the essence is lost and it all comes down to earning money and nothing else
