I think one thing to remember with the scene setting is that Rekkles did come off of worlds with FNC looking like one of the best ADCs in the world. Now I think a lot of that was Hyli pushing him to be more agressive and also playing out of his mind but there was major hype there. Then you go into a season where ADCs are even more of a secondary role.

The other thing people forget is how good G2 looked with rekkles in main season spring, they were playing really well around his senna and he was clapping people. He and Mikyx playing senna sion etc then they hit the 4 game slump and that seems to be when the cracks started showing with a lot of the players playing poorly

I think the issue was bo5. They would win first or second game but they didn't seem to be able to adapt in game 3 4 and 5. They could win lanes but team fights were not working out

After watching most of it: Thorin you actually did a really neutral video on the whole sitiuation. Didnt expect that. Actually really fair points across the board. Problem with Rekkles not being able to shine much was also a big meta problem. This year really wasnt about ADCs and they were always limited in their play. Couldve taken that more into consideration. But you still said that Rekkles was indeed individually very good this year.

Thing about Thorinn since i follow the guy is this: He is very very outspoken about his ideas/conclusions and he has the stats/facts/informats to validitate his points. But even if its about some1 he personally doesnt like he still tries very hard to get his main point across which is NEVER the "I hate the guy i think he sucks". Thorinn is much more reliable than that. In this video for example he talks about a player he personally doesnt like. Not because the players performance but cuz Rekkles's personality which makes him hard to work with for his teams. He is making a case for this while - naturally - sometimes poke fun of him. But Rekkles's own individual skill/performance is not rly a question / point to attack in the video: He is saying plain and square that Rekkles is and was a very good adc, but his mentality and work ethic makes it hard for his teams to like him, or play with him. The video is great, the points are strong and so is the evidence he uses to support them. Overall great video.

The LPL would never take a player like Rekkles. He'd be crying all the time. That is no lifestyle for a princess like Rekkles. They sometimes don't feed players for important Ls and stuff. It is NOT the same as the LCS and LEC over there. He would never subject himself to that life in the first place. But that said, they wouldn't want him either, because they don't see that as harsh punishment, just motivation. It's kind of insane, but they have won a few world tournaments, so they're doing something right I suppose...

lol at this point i think this statment is true. best chance either of those has at winnig worlds atm is going to china. rekkles passive playstyle actually could help him in an lpl team as they can build their carries around topside of the map and rekkles can play ghost dutty. you cant do the same with a washed up jungler, but a washed up adc can. expect if we get a huge meta shift towards passive jungler, which i higly doubt.

One thing that stood out to me watching worlds was a Bo5 series. G2 had 2 games, can't remember how many of even which team it was. G2 was being G2, laughing around and having very high spirits, but rekkless was all serious going "careful, they're a 5 game team". Also was that clip from jankos when rekkless was announced, saying something like "he's gonna realize we're just a bunch of clowns, and we're not trying that hard, but we're just that good". Which is to say, personality wise it wasn't a very good match.

I don't think he's a bad player, he's very stable and will oftenly put himself in a strong position during matches I don't see him winning fights he had no business winning all that often though. Perkz would make riskier plays that could turn games or throw them, but he succeeded often enough to warrant it. Anyway, G2 feels more chaotic, Rekkless is probably more by the book. They don't really match.

Im glad you got to the point around 27:25, even with ALL the baggage he may have, especially with working with star players, the fact that no team picked up for brand value alone is a joke. Rekkles alone makes your team 5x more appealing just because of the eyeballs that come with it. Hell, LFL is getting an English broadcast primarily because of Rekkles (there are other big LEC players, but Cabo, Vizicscsasi, and Crownshot alone arent bringing an english broadcast on their own). I still think he's the best western ADC of all time, which is why that by default i would try to build a team around him. Just have him and 4 other players that basically have to play around him and win or go down with it. He's no doubt a diva, ive heard enough stories, but if im a GM or an owner, im doing everything in my power to bring him in because he will boost my brand. Good for KCorp, but it's a crime that he's not in the LCS or LEC Overall a great and fair video. I look forward to the "tell all" video and hear more stories. I dont hate Rekkles, in fact I like him as a player in isolation, but i think more of the community needs to hear the stories because a lot of people do make him out to be an untouchable holy grail

imo building a team around him may be a good idea and it'll probably guarantee you playoffs spots, but more than that you wont get from that. if the rest of the team is decent and its actually functioning you may even get pretty good chances to go to worlds. thing is though, we are now at a time where even in europe we have quite a few good players. the whole g2 squad of the last years, bwipo (okay now na), hyli, selfmade, humanoid, inspired, alphari, upset (just from the top of my head, there are probably a few players more that are top level in EU. just one star player won't win you the split anymore. and if you want to win the split, building a team around rekkles won't be enough, especially if the rumored diva behaviour of him doesn't work out with other top level players.

The one angle that's missing in this is: Rekkles was a known quantity as an ADC that just does his job, has emotional issues and is disconnected, BUT, G2 still bought him. There has to be a level of responsibility on G2 for buying a player that they couldn't get to mesh with the team. You already know what he's like and that he has issues, but in the end G2 were the ones who put the contract in front of him. Either G2 thought this was the best move on paper, which means they have the same level of insight as the fans. Or, G2 thought they could change him, which means they overestimated their abilities and/or underestimated what they'd have to deal with. Or, (the least likely) they only made the move to "weaken" Fnatic. Either way, it's like dating a girl who's cheating on her boyfriend and then you're shocked when she cheats on you too.

Rekkles lacks killer instinct. He won't ever carry the game when you're losing but he won't solo lose you the game apart from a few playoff moments where he didn't Xayah ult or flash being up 2-0 vs G2 and proceeded to lose the entire series having a massive lead in game 3. It also doesn't help that he's known for being a diva and drama queen and that players like Jankos/Caps refuse to play with him, going as far as to even set ultimatums.

Well ocelote said in a recent thorin interview that the team lost their hunger which i totally agree with They thought thry are the best in europe by far and rekkles seemed like an upgrade on paper but they didnt consider how much time it take to rly jell as a geoup. G2 didn't play to their strengths for a good part of 2021. They had carries in every role, yet often they would put all eggs in just one or two baskets. Instead of using their superior flexibility. What you get with Rekkles is someone who will always be there to pick up things in the late game. As a player he is nothing if not stable in that sense. What you get with Caps is someone who can win you the game in 10 minutes if he pops off on any given day. The rest of the roster gives you superior talent in their roles in almost every matchup in the league. G2 never managed to play off of this. Too many times Rekkles was on an early-mid game carry. Too many times Wunder or Jankos were on lesser-impact picks to support the rest of the team instead of getting their own advantages. Too many times Caps were on a scaling pick instead of looking for early advantages when you KNOW that should it fail you have Rekkles (as well as a very overall talented roster) to pick up things if needed. Too many G2 games in 2021 left me scratching my head on why they refused to play to their strengths.

Small remark at 5:37 if you mean LEC+EU LCS. They didn't make finals in EU LCS Summer 2018 (Hjarnan+Wadid lineup). That was right after the team bascially exploded, but they still made worlds after obviously. Doesn't take away from the point btw, but just in case someone needs this information in the future.

I still really wonder why Thorin dislikes Rekkles so much on a personal level but aside from that as a Rekkles fan who became a G2 fan after him joining, i was always looking not at how he performed ingame (because i thikn ingame we got exactly what to expect from Rekkles) but how he would interact with his team outside of the game and how much time he would spend with his team outside of game. I think scrimming is obviously important to improve i think a pretty close second to that is actually just talking with ur team about the game which would happen outside of these offcial 'work hours'. I still think Rekkles gave g2 almost exactly what they couldve expected to get in 2021 and alot of people scapegoat him for their performance when the worst players on their team were Wunder and Mikyx with also an underwhelming performance from Caps for Caps' standards.

I only hate how Rekkles is a diva. He's still a good player but he didn't deserve to be not on LEC. G2 will regret not kicking Jankos. Mikyx says G2 will be bad in every jungle meta and Carlos says they would have been shit at Worlds which was jungle meta ONCE AGAIN. G2 is capped because Jankos is mechanically getting worse for years, people dont understand how he is limiting G2 with his playstyle. He looks "good" for blind people because they cater to his passive early game playstyle. He's not been "first blood king" for more than 5 fking years, that's only young mechanical Jankos from ROC . plebs and teenagers who are his Twitch minions are so cringe . I understand your points, but even through all that G2 should have known what they were getting with Rekkles. It's a failure on G2's part. Caps has already worked with Rekkles. Jankos and Wunder have known Rekkles in some capacity for the better part of a decade. There is no shortage of people to ask for working references when it comes to Rekkles - even in this video it's made clear that you can ask other players about what it's like working with Rekkles... It's no excuse to say that he "didn't fit" because everyone should already know what they were getting. I believe Rekkles is hard to work with. He is a special type of person who fits into certain systems, and who "demands" that the system runs in a certain way for him to be effective. In that way I like to compare him to Faker. I see the same personality traits in Faker as I see in Rekkles. I see the same stubbornness in both. And when it works it works. Other sports stars like Messi, Zlatan, LeBron are the same. But you should know what you're getting, and if you manage to put things together in the right way all of these players WILL get you the wins. The talent was never in question. But it's a failure to not recognise what you will be getting. And maybe it's because e-sports is still fairly young, but I see a severe lack of management talent in the e-sports scene in so, so, so many places. These professional managers and coaches should know better. Easy for me to say, but the behind-the-scenes talent is just lacking.

From all the blunders that just keep on happening. I cant say I disagree. These teams need people with real-world team leadership and people-development skills, and the upper managers need to know how to strike the balance between supporting players from crazy management and supporting management from crazy players. What you actually get is all of the orgs scanning resumes for a previous team or a games company and they just hire them, even if they don't have the soft skills or job skills. Or they hire friends and family. At least one of them almost exclusively hires with a very strong race preference and you see it in their staffing. Meanwhile the teams aren't investing in pipelines, they're just looking to buy wins with imports and that has never worked. Maybe it's like communism where "nobody's done it right since as long as we can remember, but I'll be the exception."

One of the few original thinkers who actually is a viable coach in terms of the game and understand both business and management as well as results. As you say, most coaches/execs in Western leagues seem to have their jobs because of having names inside of e-sports rather than because they are skillful at their jobs.

In the voicecomms he would even talk about the previous game's problems going into the next in a series, which is never good. G2 players also value hanging out after games and they all live together, while Rekkles would leave after each game to his hotel and rarely hangout with the guys, hard to get to know someone that way. Having a good relationship and synergy outside of the game is very important, especially for a team like G2, Jankos has talked about it so many times.

Hily with rekkie, was memed as a supp who is trolling with some questionable dives. Miky with rekkie, went from the best EU supp to do questionable dive-ins and occasionally feeding. Rekkles playstyle force supps to roam, and end up either getting cought, or end up diving to make up for their lost time roaming. Rekkless is an old-school adc, very good at it, but now all adc’s need to be ballsy. Games are decided on the 15-20 min, u dont see 50 min games that often. Rekkie, unfortunately ruins the teams he goes.

Absolute joke when people say buyout was too high and no one could buy him. Mad Lions is owned by millioners, so is bds they literally bought a lec spot for 30 million, vitality has loads of money, rouge just sold hans sama and inspired to na and potentionally one more org. Then there is NA which even the lowest orgs have more money that highest lec teams but no one wanted him? Either they are cheap and go for rookies or they actually dont want rekkles. I mean its not hard sitting back and farm doubt many other players have problems with that. The difference is attacking and looking for opportunities is what makes a difference. And a player of his stature should be able to play that way or adjust quicker. He was still playing jhin, sivir over half in the split. Other than that it was only tristana and sometimes kaisa. And one game vayne or jinx game lol. Look at the difference how others were playing tristana vs how rekkles was doing it. Imo Flakked already fits the team atmosphere better and his skill can be improved and seems more vocal atleast off camera and targamas is a bit more like mykix idk.

Something that's completely insane to me is that Rekkles, a player who has years of experience playing at the highest level, is without a doubt incredibly skilled and is well respected, can't communicate to his team what he needs or tell them if they're playing in a way that makes it difficult for him to do his job. Meanwhile, Bean, a rookie from the academy team who was only supposed to be at worlds with Fnatic to watch and learn, was subbed in to play in the biggest tournament of the year with little no preparation and still had the balls to speak up and tell a team that had 2 very vocal former world finalists that they needed to alter their playstyle because the way that they were playing meant he couldn't do anything. It doesn't matter how good you are, if you can't communicate effectively on a high level team you're always going to be a weak link.

Because thats never been who he is - He grew up in the era of Soaz, Xpeke, etc who basically told you how you should be playing. He has never been that vocal guy in his career. He just lets people play the game how they want to play it... He is not comfortable shotcalling or telling his teammates what they should do... instead preferring to focus on his individual play as opposed to what everyone else is doing - He has always said thats never him. His botlane partner has always been the more vocal of the two - its not really that insane. Its the same principle as people like Chovy, Ruler, etc - They dont communicate what they want you to do, you mold your style around what they are doing in the game... thats why they sometimes they look completely disjointed from their team. Like they are playing a completely different game. Its just who he is - Its the same as anything, you have people like Perkz who will tell you what they expect you to do and then you have people like Rekkles, Chovy, Ruler, etc.

I don't know which "experts" said that G2 were a sure thing to win the league. They lost Perkz, the soul and leader of the team, nobody could know how this would affect them - and it did affect them very badly. Rekkles performed well and was the best player on the team together with Jankos, but it wasn't enough, their styles didn't work together.

So assuming that just having good players is enough is stupid as it has been proven time and time again that a collective of just great players does not mean success. I recall Thorin's video where he discussed keeping Caps or keeping Perkz back when Perkz left and I said it back then already, I would have kept Perkz because he is the heart, the soul, and the brains of the team and that cannot be replaced.

@@MrReese This is not just having good players... this is having the 5 best players over the last X amount of years in the LEC. Whilst people weren't sure what effect losing Perkz would have it was more than reasonable to assume that the team would still be the best with the players they had. Even Thorin said without Perkz they would still win the league because they have categorically the best player in every role. I agree I would have kept Perkz because I think he has something that Caps doesnt whilst Caps is more Skilled perkz has this insane Drive that no other player has... But i also understand why Carlos kept Caps because that level of skill is hard to replace. But saying its dumb for people to assume that the team would be the best is you applying retroactively something you didnt know was going to happen.. the reality is nobody knew the impact losing Perkz would have and for the first split it didnt really until they reached playoffs.
