Geez I don't think people can drive. On my previous Audi S3 with same engine but with less efficient 6 speed DSG, I was getting about 7.3 average litres per 100km, and that was with 50/50 city/highway driving. The 2.0 pot is actually amazingly efficient if you leave stop start enable and don't floor it on every take off.

Good effort but not sure the branding will work. Citroen trying it with DS and the likes of Mazda tried it year’s ago with Xedos and not a success. Lexus only one that works I think. Definitely need a spare wheel on every car!

Lexus works because there's no visual crossover, the cars look completely different. I love Cupra but they need their own cars

I've got the 310PS Golf R (estate) and the DSG farts are the worst part of the car. To start with it was amusing but that wore off after about a week. Great review Bob and I think this car is a fit for me. Curious to know your opinion on how this drives compared to an Audi Q2. A similar VW group product which reviews say drives or handles somewhat poorly. It lacks road feel with too much lateral movement.

130km in nearly half a tank!!! I can only achieve such poor economy when driving at 270kph on the Autobahn. I have a Cupra 290 Kombi, and can achieve as low as 6.2l per 100km when really trying, thus resulting in just over 700km on a tank

Hey Bob what's your opinion on the new golf GTI tcr?
@lastnamefirstname5205 жыл бұрын
david brady I have driven that its super fun but you have to really be on the edge with it to have the most fun. If you want a powerful Golf for everyday use, just buy the R. Better value for an average driver. Unless you want to seriously track it or bash it around between the hills foot on the floor
@davidbrady15515 жыл бұрын
@@lastnamefirstname520 I have a 2018 GTI performance and have ordered a tcr for July. Drove the r and liked it but found it a bit heavy.i know I'm sacrificing 4wd but pcp has ruined the exclusivity of the r and there will only be 20 tcr's country wide so should hold value better when the mark 8 comes out plus mine will be black which will be very rare. I tried the cupra ateca also and great in a straight line but once you hit a decent corner you know you're in a SUV

@@davidbrady1551 I have a Cupra ST R ( with ABT ECU 365bhp ) The base car is exactly like an R Variant, only the suspension is a bit stiffer. I do have copper wheels and inlays a carbon skirt kit, a carbon roof spoiler, 4 pot Brembos with drilled discs, quad exhausts, also copper inlays on the dash, bucket seats and alcantara steering wheel and shift knob : ) I love the car a lot. (switched from a v60 polestar, that was sluggish compared to this) No pano roof though I would never get that on a VW group car, knowing they have serious noise issues ( especially on Golfs and Passats..... I got mine below 50 (eur). I needed the boot space and for me AWD was a plus ( coming from Subarus -before the Volvo-) (I know its only a Borg Warner, and not like a subie but still it helps put the power on the tarmac). I got rid of my most recent (and last SEAT) because of the rattles after less than 18 months. This dash design is coming up 7 years old, it will probably change in 2020 making this expensive Cupra an 'old shape' or 'pre face lift' model within 12 months

I like SEATs, I've owned two, but is there really a market for spun-off family wagons with stupid power you could seldom use? Whatever about a hot Leon hatch, I just don't see this working. Minimum €50k, and closer to 60 with typical options ticked. If I wanted a bonkers fast family wagon with 4WD, I'd hop over to the UK and bring back a 2 or 3 year old Audi S6 Avant, 450 hp, top drawer engineering, comfort and safety and one of the great engines, all for 10k less on the road than this fella.
@christopherharrison99815 жыл бұрын

So what was / is their target market with this Bob? I mean they seem; and in fairness this is indicative of all these type of SUV'S, to try and be jack of all whilst missing being master of something! I wouldn't buy it. The only thing that separates this car from ordinary Ateca is the engine and not even that is unique. They just took Leon Cupra's engine and put it in Ateca. Nothing new about that engine, it's been around for years. It's pricey, and this whole Cupra brand is an experiment that might get cut over night should the sales not deliver. Same thing happened with Opel's OPC program and there's even rumors about KIA cutting down its Stinger. No sales and it's gone. And you're left with an expencive sports car that no longer exists. Too risky.
