I just changed the way I store my sweaters after out growing my dresser drawers, I added some bookcases to my room and instead of books I have my sweaters! There's nothing like waking up in the morning and the first thing I see is my knitwear

Delighted to have found you via the Knitting a Good Yarn makers! The fiddlehead PS yarn projects turned out so lovely that I got myself a bundle today. I love how your Instant Crush turned out! My daughter also lives in Oakland and works in San Francisco, so I find hearing about the bay weather etc vicariously brings me closer to her! I am now a loyal listener to your channel- thanks!

Your coworkers are very lucky to have you! I'm sure they will love all the gifts! I store my sweaters in a library bookcase. I now live near Atlanta and have a work uniform, so I'm hoping to wear my sweaters on my days off.

I LOVE the sleeve length! I think long sleeves are so impractical and I have lots of beautiful bracelets I love to wear! Also really like your use of stripes to make a colorwork sweater more interesting not to mention more fun for the knitter. So to me -- this sweater is a BIG WIN!!
@Lily_curatorial_knits11 ай бұрын
THANK YOU! I've now worn it so often that it's clearly a winner to me too--great reminder to trust how much you reach for things!

I am so glad you brought up the issue of storage of our finished sweaters. I have been wondering about this too...podcasts always show everyone's finished objects, producing more and more, but noone discusses what happens with the things they make...and while storing sweaters under the bed in storage boxes is a practical solution, it somewhat defeats the purpose of creating something beautiful.
@Lily_curatorial_knits Жыл бұрын
This is such a spot-on observation! I am really committed to finding ways of storing them where I can see them, especially as I do think I will wear them more that way . . .

catching up on some earlier episodes -- and if you head down toward Half Moon Bay again, keep going a little farther to Pescadero and go to Duarte´s Tavern, one of my favorite places on earth -- i would always get a half-and-half bowl of their two signature soups (cream of artichoke and cream of green chile), a crab melt, and a piece of ollalaberry pie. one of the places i miss the most from the Bay Area.

Thanks for the tips! This sounds like a perfect Bay Area stop, adding it to my list immediately 🥰

I have a moth problem. I think I acquired them when I purchased a sheepskin. To protect my knits, I’ve purchased hanging shelves for my closet with clear, zippered fronts. I can fit two sweaters, or one bulky sweater on each shelf and zip it up so moths dont get at my woolens
@Lily_curatorial_knits Жыл бұрын
Oh dear! I'm sorry that happened, but what a great solution! Thanks for commenting and sharing your experience! Happy Holidays! :)

I store my shawls, cowls etc. in an armoire in the living room (we have no closets on the main floor). My sweaters are in a lovely cupboard my husband made, in the bedroom upstairs but this year I realized I wear them more if I choose a selection to bring down to the armoire. It’s always a pleasure to see your smiling face and your lovely knits.

It's so interesting how where we store our things can influence how we interact with them and put them to use. Thanks so much for your kind words, and happy knitting!

I am running out of room and will have to re-evaluate/find new space for sweater storage, but my favorite place for sweaters has been in a vintage glass display case with glass doors, sides, top that I inherited from my grandmother. It looked really cool with the mirrored back before it was completely full...
@Lily_curatorial_knits Жыл бұрын
Oh how romantic! This sounds like my dream knit storage scenario!
@teriwing4027 Жыл бұрын
@@Lily_curatorial_knits it is a beautiful way to enjoy my knits as art when they're at rest. And the case belonged to the grandmother that taught me to knit, so, extra special. 💖 I'm thinking I'll move tees and summer knits to a drawer, but I'm still going to run out of room soon. Looking for aesthetic storage options that are preferably not plastic. 😳 We have plenty of plastic in our home, and it has its uses, but I'm challenging myself to look for a more sustainable, more permanent feeling storage solution.

Loving the sweater you are wearing. Love! About the classic Rib hat--what needle size? I have a horrible time adjusting from pattern gauge to another gauge. I did mine in Cashmerrino Bloom and on a 3 needle. Took forever so gift knits are a no go with said yarn. But am encouraged by your hats at larger gauge as these would be knitted faster. 😍
@Lily_curatorial_knits Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I used worsted weight yarn--or DK plus mohair--and size 6 needles. I love the outcome of the classic rib hat, but agree that it took ages!

I have yet to try the steam block with an iron. Did you dampen the towel? I think that's what I had originally understood was necessary to penetrate the knitted fabric. Thanks!
@Lily_curatorial_knits Жыл бұрын
I didn't dampen the towel, but I used steam from the iron onto the hat (but didn't place the iron onto the fabric) then I covered the hat with the towel and steamed while pressing. Hope that helps, I found it worked super well!

My significant other has a glass front gun case. He has removed most of his guns because he fears a break-in would make them vulnerable. I want to snap up the cabinet…remove the gun holding forms and install shelves. I see people on Pinterest doing similar things for quilts.

Oh thank you! It's so funny, I like the look of it too, but there's just something about the upper arm shaping that feels a bit restrictive to wear . . . I may see if as I wear it it loosens up a bit!

Hello Lily, do you have any tips or tricks on how to read a repeat in a stranded color work chart? The sweater that you are wearing is so pretty
@Lily_curatorial_knits10 ай бұрын
Absolutely, I do! First off, I print my patterns out, especially for charts--there are some apps that some folks like where you can mark up a digital pattern, but I do like the paper. Then I use either highlighter or washi tape to track my progress. I do like being able to see the chart for the row below my current working row as well, as it helps me "read" my knitting. I'll also note, that I think the PERFECT first color work sweater is the Sheep Camp. It's very intuitive and gives an amazing impact. Good luck, I hope you have a fantastic project!
@WoollyChats10 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for the tips! I will definitely be using them for my next colorwork knitting. I’ve heard of that sweater I’ll look into that as well @@Lily_curatorial_knits

Most of my sweaters are in bins under my bed, due to lack of apartment storage space. If I don't have a specific sweater in mind to wear, I'll visit my Ravelry projects page in the morning to see my sweater collection (à la Clueless) and pick an outfit for the day. I wear all of my sweaters in a regular rotation!
