When I received an autograph book for my birthday when I turned 8, I filled it with all kinds of autographs from my friends, who wrote little poems like "Roses are Red, Violets are Blue" which tickled me to no end. My father was never a demonstrative man, and when I approached him finally to sign my book, I half expected him to refuse, but he surprised me and wrote a little ditty that delighted me and I still treasure the memory of the pleasure I felt as I read his words: "I love you little, I love you big, I love you like a little pig. Love Dad" The book is long gone, and I am way older now than what Dad was at the time, but he's still around, in his 90's and living near St. Brides, Alberta, where he grew up. Cheers, and thanks for the memories!

I think it’s great that you do hoarded houses and I have no bad comments about the people who live there. It’s their business how they live and I do realize they are Suffering from a condition, thus I never condemn or talk about any people In a negative way. It’s none of anybodys business. You are lovely people to help others❤️👍

My 21-year-old was taught cursive in 3rd grade but he was never required to use it much, so it didn't stick. I had to teach him how to sign his own name for military entrance paperwork when he was 19.😆 My youngest son is 7 and in 2nd grade. I'm homeschooling him and the program we use offers cursive instruction as early as Kindergarten. I had him learn it in 1st grade. He's been using it ever since and his handwriting is better than most adults.

I always find that sad, so much history, and no one to hand it down to.
@zimnizzle2 жыл бұрын
There’s a whole family history in those cases that was carefully packed away and saved. Someone cared enough to store it and save it (and yes, hoard it) - but not throw it away. The piece of wedding cake that was saved really got me for some reason. It occurs to me that we save things in our lives in the hopes that our family members will keep it after we are gone. That they will remember us and our lives and keep our stories alive. Eventually, though, the family line either ends, or there isn’t anyone left to tell our stories any more. Perhaps items get lost or forgotten. Or family loses interest. I’m glad there are people like you out there willing to take the time to try to put things back together as much as is possible, and when you can, return them back to family. And when not, pass them along to people that will value and honor them.
@Kris-rf1mo2 жыл бұрын
I thought it was so sad. I’m someone who loves learning about my families history. Those kind of documents found in that case would be huge in piecing together details of previous generations.

I'm from Utah! The cabin on Salt Lake City Temple Square is called the Deuel Log Cabin, built in 1847 and one of only two that have survived all these years. It was still there in 2018, but I don't know if it's still there, probably. I remember seeing it as a kid and I'm 71 now. Freaked me out knowing I was born only 104 years after they came to the valley. There were two pictures of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir mixed in with the Las Vegas post cards.

If you started an Instagram and posted nothing but pictures, postcards, and the rest from just those two suitcases, it would be a masterpiece. And all those photos are gold. You can get high res scans from them, no problem. It won't be Shorpy level glass plate resolution, but it would still be pretty good. It would take a lot of time, but it would serve the greater interest of historical preservation and be super cool. Call it "Two Old Suitcases". It would probably be a great social media angle for the channel. ;)

The wedding cake would probably be fruit cake with marzipan and royal icing. It was a tradition to send a piece to anyone who couldn't be at the wedding. I got a piece of my sister's wedding cake but it wasn't in a fancy silver box, just a strong cardboard box made specifically for mailing cake. The little sewing book had an inscription on the title page that had a date. What a delight that would be to look through.

The little box of cake is a groom's cake (usually spiced with raisins)...When I was a little girl, I went to a wedding with my grandparents in Rhode Island. As we were leaving, I was given a little box of cake like that and told that, if I put it under my pillow that night, I would dream of my future husband! How precious to see the one you found...brought back a sweet memory... (no pun intended)...😆💒 🥰
