Why the Muslim Brotherhood is Becoming a Growing Threat in India Pro-India politicians, both in India and abroad, are becoming increasingly concerned about the activities and future goals of the Muslim Brotherhood in India. While the Muslim Brotherhood is an internationally-recognized “non-violent” Islamist group, it does have indirect links to armed groups and wishes to change the current global hegemony-which is dominated by the U.S., U.K., and other Western nations-into Dar al-Islam, meaning that they wish to transform it into an Islamic land and force people to convert to Islam. The ultimate objective of the Muslim Brotherhood, as espoused by the group since the days of its founder Hassan al-Banna in the 1920s, is to adopt a political position of jihad against non-Muslims. The group has a vast international propaganda network and has spawned numerous militant leaders around the world, such as Abdullah Yusuf Azzam, a staunch follower of Al-Banna, who, in 1984, ignited the major Islamist foreign fighter flow to fight the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. By the time Azzam was killed in 1989, he had mentored Osama bin Laden, the founder of Al-Qaeda. Indeed, Bin Laden later said Brotherhood ideas were key to the formation of his ideology. The Brotherhood’s designation as a “non-violent” group relies on a literalist interpretation of its behavior, and requires ignoring its connections to militancy. In India, for example, the Brotherhood’s local versions have exacerbated inter-communal discord and created chaos on the streets with protests against the Indian government. These Brotherhood and Brotherhood-derived groups on the Subcontinent insist that the foundations of the Indian Constitution-which include the pillars of secularism, democracy, and nationalism-are anti-Islamic, and work to undermine these foundations in India, primarily by trying to provoke a religious civil war between Indian Muslims and Hindus. The Brotherhood’s vision for toppling the Indian government, creating Dar al-Islam in India, and cultivating revolt in Kashmir is also not exactly “non-violent”. Two prominent Brotherhood offshoot groups in India are the Popular Front of India (PFI) (PFI) and the National Women’s Front (NWF). The PFI was recently banned in India, which has led to something of a resurgence of an older terrorist-designated group, the Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), which works alongside domestic extremists like the Indian Mujahideen (IM), while receiving external funding from the Qatar-Turkey-Pakistan (“QTP”) axis, and having links with the Pakistani-controlled jihadist ecosystem in Afghanistan that includes the Taliban and Al-Qaeda. The outside support for Islamist militancy in India is important, but the domestic sources of support are crucial to understand. The Brotherhood’s desire to create civil strife to destabilize India and bring down the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is being abetted financially by Indian opposition parties, according to sources. There are some who see the Muslim Brotherhood’s recent upsurge in India as primarily resulting from Indian politicians trying to use this dangerous group as a weapon to defeat Modi’s rule. This would not be completely unprecedented: there were Indian politicians who exploited the Naxalite (Communist) terrorist-insurgency as a political weapon against the government of the day, for example, a far worse situation. There are roughly as many Muslims in India as there are in Pakistan, a nominally Islamic state, and Muslims in India-unlike in Pakistan-have the freedom to take an active role in politics. There are legal mechanisms for parties to collaborate to remove Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The apparent sly support of a number of Indian politicians for the Brotherhood is, therefore, highly irresponsible. The Brotherhood does not just want to replace the current government; it wants to overthrow the entire ruling system, especially the secularism, but also the democracy and nationalism, because the Brotherhood sees these things as destructive to Islam. A significant motive for the Muslim Brotherhood resuming its activities in India is that as the country becomes a rising power it is drawing closer to the U.S. and could soon pose a major threat to the anti-Western bloc in South and Southeastern Asia, which is backed by China. That is why this alliance, primarily operating through Pakistan, is supporting the Muslim Brotherhood in India, hoping to use the 204 million Muslims in India to provoke civil strife against Hindus to hamper India’s rise. The Muslim population in India is the third largest Muslim population in the world, and the concern of Indian politicians and security agencies is that if the Muslim Brotherhood’s roots are strengthened in India, it will become increasingly difficult to govern the country. In a situation of disorder, it would make Indian Muslims more susceptible to being recruited by the Brotherhood and other international terrorist groups.

Because they feel threatened. Just like the US, China is a peaking power due to demographic and economic issues. When China's expansionism in the Pacific is frustrated and they fail to invade Taiwan, where do you think they will look next? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize India will be a target. Through history, rising and falling Great Powers have always been able to form alliances and work together. Japan and Britain managed to do this around 1900, Prussia and Britain in the 1850s as well. But there is one case where this has failed, where a rising power has always faced conflict with the existing one. That case is when they share a border and compete for spheres of influence. The Russo-Japanese war and the Franco-Prussian war are examples of this. India should look at the full spectrum of history and not get tunnel vision on colonialism, whether we are talking about India, Tibet, or any other country as a victim. There is no question that era is over, and India will be the next rising power if it plays its cards right.

In February 2007, the Indo-Bhutan Friendship Treaty was substantially revised, clarifying Bhutan's full control of its foreign relations, as well as its independence and sovereignty. Whereas the Treaty of 1949, Article 2 stated: "The Government of India undertakes to exercise no interference in the internal administration of Bhutan. On its part the Government of Bhutan agrees to be guided by the advice of the Government of India in regard to its external relations," the revised treaty now states "In keeping with the abiding ties of close friendship and cooperation between Bhutan and India, the Government of the Kingdom of Bhutan and the Government of the Republic of India shall cooperate closely with each other on issues relating to their national interests. Neither government shall allow the use of its territory for activities harmful to the national security and interest of the other." The revised treaty also includes this preamble: "Reaffirming their respect for each other's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity", an element absent in the earlier version. Also india is militarily responsible to defend bhutan from external aggression. So no, india isn't infringing on the sovereignty of bhutan. But it is natural to worry if your enemy positions a gun in your friendly neighbours house.

India has funded hydroelectricity projects in bhutan and bought the electricity which practically doubled the GDP Per capita of bhutan. Bhutan has the shortest route to sea ports through india and importantly Bangladesh than going 1000's of miles through chinese cities. We all know how "genuine" China's "economic" Aid is to other countries. We saw it in Sri Lanka, Pakistan and central american countries where the Chinese literally bribed their way to resources and make mines. Get your facts right rather than CCP propaganda.

The disputed piece of land is in Bhutan which China is laying claims to. So the dispute is between Bhutan and China. When the PM of Bhutan mentioned that the third country also has a say in this dispute , that third country is India. India is indirectly involved in this dispute of the Doklam plateau between Bhutan and China because of the strategic reasons and Bhutan respects India's deep strategic concern. But why is the Indian media harping about involving China and creating a negative narrative ?? China is already involved directly with Bhutan as these two nations share the Doklam plateau border. Since Bhutan understands the strategic importance of India's interest in Doklam and the PM of Bhutan suggested involving India in the talks for resolving the issue which is prudent. Doklam issue is a very complex geo political scenario but this will never damage the great friendship and relationship that India and Bhutan share and cherish , as both nations mutually support and respect each other.

Let's face the truth that China today is a very rich Superpower and militarily the 3rd most powerful country in the world whereas India is a very poor country (as per GDP per capita) and a 3rd rate mediocre power. Even India's immediate neighbours do not have high regards for India. Why so? The answer is as clear as daylight. The question to ask is - Does India have the guts and the gumption to take on China in an open all our war? Personally I think if there is indeed an open all out war between the two, India will be pulverised into smithereens. India knows it too. In view of the aforesaid, the Bhutanese prime minister is right in saying that China is an equal party to the issue for he is a realist and he knows that if push comes to shove India will not stand militarily with Bhutan and as such, India is a liability to Bhutan. He can discern and can foresee that India will walk away from Bhutan with its tail between its legs and its head bowed down. Need I go further on this subject matter?

India needs to stop its na ghar ka na ghat ka policy. It should allign with US. Russian is an old ally but its more inclined towards china for obvious reasons. China is too big for us to fight alone we need support from the QUAD to tackle them which is not as easy as making reels with arambh hai prachand music in background for managing vote bank.

China will advance its interest and India will also advance her interest..there is no doubt about that..now what about Bhutan..doesn t Bhutan as an Independent and soverign state advance Bhutan interest. Isn t India acting exactly like a colonial state onto Bhutan..if India relies on unequal treaties signed during British rule to run Bhutan external affairs and dictate Bhutans foreign policy based on Indian interest and not Bhutan? Bhutan has a long border with China and this is not the Indian border with China...and it is the soverign right of Bhutan to negotiate and live peacefully with the largest economic ( PPP terms) nation on earth.. Same as Sri Lanka..or Bangladesh..Maldives etc.. The Americans put military bases in South Korea ..Japan and Phillipines ..it is an existential threat to the Chinese but the Chinese have to accept the fact that those countries are soverign ..same as should the Chinese put a military base in Cuba..oops the US will be screaming for invasion of Cuba in a heartbeat .Here we see the doublestandards of Superpowers..throughout history and sadly this will continue till kingdom come...

Hello old man please don't try to politicise everything. We can understand Indians concern however regarding the border of Bhutan, fellow Bhutanese know 100% better than you exactly like you know about India. Therefore, I beg you, if the border problem is between China and Bhutan let us solve it by ourselves. Please mind it that you can't feel my pain just by your vision, whatsoever! Thank you.

Bhutan hasn't asked India to take part in any negotiations they have had with China in the recent past, and India hasn't done so, either. Has China concluded negotiations with Bhutan or not, or do they want to take the negotiations further? Bhutan wants India to be a part of the future negotiations that it has with China.
