Curly Cuts & Bullying! From day one, my goal has been to simply share all of my experiences and journey.
I’ve tried to do so in complete transparency. What do I mean by that? I mean, I’ve given credit where credit is due. I’ve also tried to be a straight shooter. So whenever I’ve had issues, wins or questioned certain aspects of what I’ve been implementing in my hair care routine I have publicly acknowledged them.
So it’s been very heartbreaking and disturbing to know that our own personal choices have caused other women of color to be down right nasty because of the differences of opinion and/or actions.😩 I’m not the only one who has been affected either. However, in one instance an apology was made. 🙏🏽
I pray this type of behavior is a short stretch of time for us all because Lord knows no one deserves to be treated unkindly! Especially for their own personal choices with their hair. ☹️💖🙏🏽
This us NOT a tutorial. I am simply showing how I care for my natural curly hair and the products I use in my hair care routine.
This video is not intended to replace the need for a professional stylist. Partnering with a professional stylist to help maintain healthy and vibrant curls in my opinion is priceless curl friends! 🙌🏽

Hi Curl Friends! 👋🏽🥰 I’ve been dismissing some of the bullying I’ve experienced due to talking about my own personal experience with getting curly cuts. Not only have I read and heard things on my own but I’ve also been sent stuff from others. 😢

This is how i know they (bgc) simply don’t know how to run a business. How incredibly simple would it have been for them to just say “because of the nature of curly hair we recommend stretching the hair to really asses and evaluate the state of your ends in between curly cuts to ensure hair health ” or offering blown out/ stretched cuts for trims and shaped cuts in between or instead of curly cuts (this has been the standard for years, it is absolutely possible). Like they just completely threw away an alternate money revenue stream because of their inflated ego. I have lost a lot of respect from them over this lack of accountability and no longer watch their content since i believe it is a fact that these curly cuts are not healthy for the hair. Too many of us who don’t neglect our hair have presented too much evidence for me to believe otherwise. Bless you for speaking on this❤.

Definitely here for this ! They need to go back to the drawing board to respectfully address all of these new complaints popping up instead of blaming their own CIK stylists and worse, the client's themselves... considering all them dollars being thrown into curly cuts...they need to go back to the drawing board because all of this is very dismissive to their clients feelings and concerns... exactly why even as a wash n go girly i never bought their course- i saw down the line, their leadership wasn't going to be supportive enough, it felt like just selling courses and making up new terminology

Before the ends even came into question, length retention was my concern! I was getting my hair cut back to the same length every 8 weeks. I was told my hair was healthy too but was not able to retain any length for the sake of “maintenance and shape” I blew my hair out this morning and will only get trim or get trims on blown out hair from now on. Thank you for confirming my suspicions.

You are being so KIND Shelly 👀! And we know your hands didn’t do it because many have sent photos of what their hair , ends looked like. It’s really unfortunate that the group is still encouraging and saying it’s possible to remove all split ends with curly Cuts and maybe it is but I didn’t have that experience! I would really respect them if they said let’s step back and investigate why clients are experiencing split ends after receiving routine trims! They have said it’s possible depending on the experience of the CIk stylist. I am confused are we just to assume the CIk stylist is going to? It would be nice for them to come out snd say we are looking into why our clients are experiencing this ‼️

Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm now suspect of people who come out with a new curly hair "system" (followed up with books, courses and products) that tell you that everything you knew about hair is wrong. I've been natural since 2007 and back then it was Deva cuts (cutting dry hair, curl by curl) and "the curly girl method" (no sulfates, silicones, mineral oil or petrolatum). I purchased the original book by Lorraine Massey and wanted to get Deva cuts (but no one in my area was licensed in that type of cut).

Shelly I have a very similar experience. I’ve been getting regular curly cuts for over 3 years. When my stylist blew my hair out for a color service is when I first noticed the splits. I thought, surely, my eyes must be deceiving me. After not retaining ANY length over the years, I got sick of my stylist and decided to go back to styling my own hair. I blew my hair out and the splits were splitting, honey. I gave myself a proper trim and my hair has so much movement, it’s growing, and looks really good. I don’t want to blame it totally on the curly cut, but I think that my stylist wasn’t very good. Unfortunate.

As commented on Rosie's page, the culprit may be the quality of the shears. Bad shears can do serious damage regardless of the type of cut.

I have really enjoyed your channel and Instagram posts. You have been inspiring us over 50 ladies so much. We appreciare you. I wish that particular group was not so adversarial. Unfortunately much of their education gets missed due to behavior of the messenger(s). This is not their 1st instance of bullying in the natural hair community. As always, keep on doing what is best for your hair. Be blessed!!!!

I’m so glad you share your journey in such an authentic way. I’m a hairstylist and I was in phase 2 of CIK. I loved the relearning of some principles, but I’ve struggled as a professional stylist on solely doing curly cuts on my clients. I’ve also felt as a stylist that serves tight curly individuals that I get bashed if I just don’t buckle down and only do curly cuts.

I don't have any personal experience with curly cuts because I have never had one. My comment is about wash-n-go styling, cuts on blown-out hair, and retaining length wearing a wash-n-go. I've been wearing almost exclusively WnG styling since 2008 when I discovered Kinky-Curly products from watching an OG KZbinr called Str8isis use it on her hair. I had worn a WnG off and on previous to that but didn't like it because of the gel that was available at that time. There was a learning curve but once I figured out how to use the Kinky-Curly system I was happy with my results. My personal experience has been cutting my hair in a blown-out state two to three times a year as needed. I've always restyled every 5 to 7 days by shampooing, conditioning or deep conditioning, and styling.

I get what you're saying about deciding to cut your hair in a blown out state. I am thinking about going that way too because my length is gone after my curly cut and I'm not reaching my length goals.

Subscribed from Rosie’s channel❤. I experienced the same from curly cuts I got one from a CIK stylist a few years ago lost a lot of length and then had frayed ends. Then I cut all my hair off and tried a curly cut again like 8 months ago and then went back to the same salon for a cut on silk pressed hair and they said it was the curly cut that made my ends look like that and my hair was uneven. I’m like you in that I don’t think I need a sharp curly cut shape. My hair falls nicely and is even in a wash and go after my silk press. I have been hearing some rumblings about people not liking the way BGC interacts with people etc. They have some strong “clap back energy” when there’s not even anything to clap back about, just a difference of opinion or experience. I’m soo sorry you’ve had to deal with such negativity. The older I get the more I’ve realized a lot of people never mature past high school 😢😅😂. Loving your channel and energy and that luscious hair of course❤😊

I’ve been getting curly cuts for over 7 years. My hair is WAY more healthier now than when I would get my hair cut while straight. With that being said, I wear my hair in a wash n go 100% of the time. In addition I don’t manipulate my hair and I style my hair with the same 5 product. I’m sure that has some bearing on the overall health of my hair.
