This is literally how I do my hair! Im gonna try doing this every day instead of every week. My hair reaches bra strap length, my goal is tailbone length by the end of next year. I also incorporate hair grease in my regimen and my hair is thriving! This is my 5th time growing my hair super duper long ☺️

My stylist was an apprentice to Dickey many years ago. She taught me how to do a wash n go like this with a leave in paired with a styling product. When I feel like it and it isn't too humid, my hair looks great. I would Kinky Curly Curly Custard, Camille Rose Curlmaker or Curls Blueberry Bliss gel as my styler. For leave ins, I would use Curls Blueberry Bliss or leave ins from Karens Body Beautiful. I live in the Northeastern part of the US (NYC). Your hair looks so pretty!🥰🤗

Your hair is gorgeous. I love the dark color for the F/W season. I have been using the Anthony Dickey method myself for a month now and I have seen and felt the difference in my hair. Anthony Dickey is the real deal. It looks like your hair is recovering well after what you been through BCG method. Just follow Anthony method and you will see and feel the definition, hydration, and softness in your hair.

I am from CT South Africa and I can remember doing this since 1980. I was 12 and we were all doing wash and go's this way. I have to add, all of us were type 3b/c and one kids was about 4a. Her curl looked better than the rest of us cos she had no pre-existing heat damage. There were no diffusers back then and our weather is generally warmer than the states. In CT we always did everything starting with sopping wet hair. W&g, roller set, blow drying too. We blow dry like the Dominican stylists ..... Round brush method. They all work better with wet hair rather than damp hair. I generally spritz every other day and rinse or cowash the other days. Shampoo weekly. I never have 2nd day curls, no matter what I do. My hair doesn't do well with braid outs or twist outs cos they come lose and too short to pineapple.

My hair is very similar to yours…I don’t do the hair type thing but I will say it’s very coily. My hair LOVES WATER and it melts and detangles by itself under a shower head as soon as it gets wet. It gets saturated fast but will dry fast too without product! Anyway…I have found that every day or every other day is what I need to do for my hair to feel and look it’s best. I may shampoo and condition once or twice a week but the other days I just wet it down in shower, apply conditioner (currently using Tressame) rinse and then do a leave in and gel. Yesterday I just used a leave in conditioner so definitely needed to redo my hair this morning. Today I used leave-in and a gel so that maybe i can get two days out of this style and redo it on Monday (prob shampoo and conditioner though). Didn’t know it was a “Dickey” method but I do know that my hair can go from super shiny and defined curls and coils to Buckwheat with a snap of a finger if I don’t do it daily or every other day! And I mean Afro dry Buckwheat!! It like I have two different heads of hair. Can’t wait to see the other parts of the video and hear your final thoughts 😊

@shelly.v.247 Yes, it was so very helpful. I tried it for the first time 2 days ago. For a period in the process, my hair wasn't any different. I continued to add conditioner....I recall his instructions saying "as much conditioner as you have hair". I have lots of dense hair, so I kept going until I saw the definition (because he was clear in saying the way it looks with conditioner is the way it will set, and I was not feeling the frizz and lifelessness that was present @ my typical stopping point). I said all that to say, this is now my new routine. It is faster, more moisturized, defined, etc. Thanks to you, I understood it better than other videos I viewed, and I am already on a roll with this method.
@shelly.v.247

Oh I love hearing that! When I did it I used a ton of conditioner too. He also says just use a very inexpensive conditioner because the true benefit is in the method and not necessarily the products. My struggle became the drying time. However I did it until my heir became super hydrated. Then I switched to my current haircare routine. 🥰

Very nice glad you’re trying his method works wonderfully I have to admit. It’s is a lot of work at first. In the winter I incorporate a mousse topper so it dries faster. It’s working out well. I just got blow out trim so I want to see how my hair behaves over the next 3 months with this new regime. Btw, I need to find an affordable no poo cleanser backup. Interesting you mentioned drying under cool. My past few washes I used the cool setting for the first 15 minutes before switching to heat and noticed my hair is shinier. Yours is always so shiny and beautiful! Looking forward to the next parts of the series.

Been using his method for over 2 months after a big chop. My hair has grown back over 2 inches. I suggest using a cream cleanser the best I have found besides Anthony Dickey’s is AS I AM amend it runs about $10. Ion longer use regular shampoo or oils unless I do a blow out (for oils). Regular shampoo actually do dry natural hair immensely.

ooh, I remember the Anthony Dickey method! I got too lazy to do this everyday or even every other day but his method definitely works. One tip on the humectants like glycerine, I've found that in hot arid climates, gels and other leave on products with a high humectant count can actually dry out your hair over time. Because the air is dryer than your hair so the glycerine sucks moisture out of your hair. When you're in a somewhat humid (not too humid though) climate, glycerine draws moisture from the air and into your hair. It's not just me though, a bunch of curly hair experts say the same. Of course, if it's working for you then keep using it, everyone's hair is unique afterall. Love your videos and looking forward to part 2! Your hair looks fab!

I read your message a couple of times and what you are saying makes absolute sense and I’ll definitely watch for it happening! So far the glycerin based products I’ve used with the exception of Alikay Lemongrass gel hasn’t done that. I wonder if it’s because I used a leave in underneath it? My hair stayed very moisturized feeling but maybe it’s also different because it was being set daily? Idk 🤷🏽‍♀️ However, I’ll definitely keep an eye on it for sure now! 🥰 I appreciate your input and advice! It’s extremely helpful Luv! 💖💯

@@shelly.v.247 I think using leave-ins and the daily sets help prevent the humectants from doing you dirty. But that's just a guess. Thank you beautiful! I let go of Innersense awhile ago because I’m not sure if they are really the best for our hair. Especially now that I know certain groups are sponsored by them. 👀🫣 I’m honestly still trying to figure out what works the best for my hair. According to Anthony Dickey, ppl with hair like ours can easily get stripped with shampoos that lather up. So I’m testing out his No Suds Shampoo by Hair Rules. I’m also playing around with different conditioners. I like the ones from Trader Joe’s and believe it or not I just tried one by Cantu and loved it. I’ll definitely continue to share everything I’m using in my videos and down in the description. 🥰

From Cape Town South Africa ..... We do everything starting with very wet hair. We roller set, blow dry with a round brush luke the Dominican stylists in US and w&g starting with very wet hair and back in the day we never had flatirons. So I am a believer in the sopping wet hair approach. We may not cowash everyday when doing a w&g but we definitely give hair a rinse at the very least. In my social circle we range from 2c-4c ..... My 4C nieces and cousins don't do it cos most have protective styles or just spritz daily. We dont have the same products as you have and most pf us find products for curlies are way too heavy.... So we dilute styling products before applying if the product is too heavy.

Hi Luv! 🥰 Wow that is so very interesting! It definitely makes sense to start on really wet hair because it breaks down the bonds in the hair and seems to give it a more flat finish. How do you decide the styler you will choose for your wash and gos? -I DECIDE BASED OFF MY DESIRED LOOK IM WANTING TO ACHIEVE. MEANING, DO I WANT A FULLER LOOK OR A MORE FLAT AND DEFINED LOOK. What factors do you take into consideration when deciding during wash day?-I THINK ABOUT THE DESIRED LOOK IM WANTING TO ACHIEVE. I THINK ABOUT HOW LONG I WANT OR NEED MY WASH AND GO TO LAST. @@shelly.v.247 It helped a ton! I’ve been experiencing a lot of ssk which is unusual. I am overdue for a trim though. I was considering getting the split ender device but will also get a trim soon. I will increase my trim frequency and see how this helps. I’m also considering blowing out my hair more often but I’m scared of heat damage. I’m still struggling to find combos that work for me. The combos ppl say are their holy grails and don’t flake actually flake on me. Maybe I’m heavy handed. I’m also considering if it’s the combos I’m choosing, at the time I’m choosing it. Maybe the weather plays a role also. I was wondering if you ever consider the weather or season when choosing the combo you will you use for wash day. Or if it effects wether you will add a leave in or cream or anything else to your routine. Why do you feel your hair is still damaged? It looks great!

I think the most important lesson I’ve learned is to do what works best for YOUR HAIR! There is no one size fits all. We want there to be and would love for there to be but unfortunately there’s not. So find your holy grail and go with it Sis. 💖 Looks are deceiving and that’s why you have to be careful about whose advice you follow. My hair looks healthy but I assume you it’s not. The splits I have from the method I was following are unreal. I care about it because it impacts the overall health of my hair. Meaning, it’s hard to grow damaged hair. If doing this daily or every other day do you detangle also and with what type of tool? Also do you dry your hair under the hooded dryer (does it have to be on cool or is med/high ok) or diffuse? Thank you for sharing! I was just thinking about this method.
@shelly.v.247
@shelly.v.247 Жыл бұрын
Excellent questions! In my series I actually discuss everything you asked. Because you’re wetting your hair daily and bathing it in conditioner, the tangles just fall out (if there are any). So I just finger detangled with the exception of 1 day which you’ll see in the series because I was curious if finger detangling was effective each day. Spoiler alert, it absolutely was! 🙌🏽🤣 I started with a cool setting then started playing around with it each day. A medium setting is good. I also lightly diffused each time for a couple of minutes. It would be ideal to just diffuse for 5-8 minutes then air dry the rest of the way but I didn’t try that. Maybe I will and see what happens. I did play with the amount of water that was left in my hair prior to applying the styler. Squeezing some out first gave me an amazing result and it dried the quickest and lasted 3 days! Unfortunately, I didn’t record those days because I was traveling and was playing around with the method a little. Lastly, I think it’s a method that should you try it, you adjust it to suit your needs. Hope that makes sense and is a little helpful 🥰

If I let it air dry it will still be damp at night. That's not a good look or feeling 😅. I wonder how much difference a mouse will make. I did this method a few years back and I loved it. The real problem was that after a few weeks my hair started to feel limp, mushy, and couldn't hold a curl anymore. I wonder what happened... Not sure what went wrong.

I know it’s really hard to wrap your head around it all but the benefits outweigh the dry time. Your hair feels amazingly soft, hydrated and moisturized! It’s super fast and easy to set. If I added it up, it only takes 30 minutes to set and dry it. The curls look phenomenal too! The main drawback is the drying time because that is the longest part of the process. However, it’s worth it for how the hair feels and looks. If I could diffuse it for 5-8 minutes then air dry the rest that would completely offset the dry time. We shall see. 💖

I have not done this method in a while. However, during the summer, I did it every day, and my thin, fine, 3c/4a hair actually blossom and looked the best it ever had since I went natural in September 2009. The more you do it the healthier and less work you have to do for your hair. I believe it depends on the products you use. My hair cannot take heavy creams with Shea Butter or thick gels. Products like the Kinky Curly Knots Today or Aloe Vera base products and hair milks works wonders for this fine strand natural. Listen to your hair. Anthony Dickey's method I'd simply to hell sisters with tighter Curl patterns to learn to hydrate our hair with water and use conditioner as a softening agent. I will try a method completely first to make sure it does what it says... (commit fully to it) if it doesn't, I'll leave it alone.

Well I can say that after having tried Dickey’s method, I was surprised to find that it is very realistic to do daily. However, do you have to do it daily? Not necessarily because I think it depends on your hair. Dickey even says that. My hair can last several days with the method but I love how amazing it feels after I reset it. Not to mention, it’s super quick and easy to do. At the end of the day, you need to find what works best for YOU and YOUR hair and leave the rest alone.
