Talk about shooting fish in a barrel! This place couldn't be easier as far as collecting goes, there is a huge number of thundereggs just sitting around, or you can dig for them.
As far as a fee dig goes, I think this place is great, the material is affordable and abundant.

That place is awesome! Between all the gorgeous discards to choose from, and the polkadot agate, the place has a little bit for everyone! And with my handicap, it's a great place to go. You can walk around easily and just look at all the eggs that have been discarded and there are lots that haven't been opened yet too. And the pile of polkadot agate to choose from was awesome As well. There was no mining for agate anymore but that's ok im not a miner. I just wanted a couple pieces to take with me as specimens. And I got exactly what I wanted. It looks as though the layout has changed quite a bit but still the quality place to go! Thanks Jared and Sara! ❤

It really is a great place. When we were there, I wanted to get some of that polka dot agate, but all of it was far too large for my little 14" saw. Maybe come spring they will have more smaller chunks.

Very nice location! Their thundereggs are very nice and lots of larger ones. It’s pretty cool to see my buddy Wade and his wife Candy there from over here in Nevada. 👍🏻 thanks for sharing!

Thundereggs are awesome. Nature makes things that are awesome. A how geologically things are made is so interesting.

I stop there after the field trips where I've been actually digging. I get the discards too. I have more than anyone needs. I have a hard time finding eggs that will fit on a box to ship but I still have more than any one person needs. That being said, I'll be back this June to get more. I still wish I could get back in the agate pit but I guess I should be glad I got to go in the first place.

That is the main downside with this place, you really need access to a large saw to enjoy the big eggs.

Another place to add to my bucket list for this summer. I was already planning to head down to Richardsons rock ranch so now I have another spot nearby to go to. I am also local to you and have an 18 inch saw that you can use if you ever need it to cut things a bit too big for your saw.

This is so close to Richardson's, if you stop there you have to also come here to the Canyon Rim thunderegg bed. Shoot me an email! I would love to chat some. currentlyrockhounding@gmail.com

I dug there right after they first found thundereggs, it was easy digging, much more than now. I have no problem collecting discarded eggs as they cut just fine. They last time I stopped i only collected from the discarded piles.

Sorry for the dumb question, but couldn't you roll the thunderegg as you cut it, in order to get through the whole thing? I have a 10“ saw and cut slabs as big as your eggs.
@ocklawahaboyrocks
@ocklawahaboyrocks Жыл бұрын
They use that technique there to cut customers eggs. I personally think it produces an inferior cut. I have eggs I am just storing until that bright better day when I have a bigger saw.
@dustinfindsrocks
@dustinfindsrocks Жыл бұрын
Yeah it will be a much rougher cut if you do that
@MrTurtleMontana
@MrTurtleMontana Жыл бұрын
That's true... but most of the time, you're just going to polish the cut face anyway, so any roughness from the cut will be ground out, right?
@CurrentlyRockhounding
@CurrentlyRockhounding Жыл бұрын
You can do that, but when you roll the rock on the blade you will get a really rough and poor cut, which means a lot more time needs to be spent to make it flat when polishing. One thing you might notice is that most of the time when you see people doing that on videos here on KZbin they will rarely show you the rocking being cut polished because it has so many deep gouges in it and will take forever to do.
