With Okiko's story: in older Japan, it was common to gift hand-made dolls to little girls. They would use cuts from the little girl's hair that would be stuffed into the doll's head. The doll was meant to be as a "child" for the little girl to learn how to make clothes and the hair would be short in the outside but very long on the inside of it's head, and so, the cuts of hair would come out due to time and it would appear as it grows, so the little girl could make hairstyles in it and cut it.

I heard about Okiku from my Japanese mother when I was about 7, and always thought it was sweet that the child loved her doll so much that she wanted to stay with her doll even after death by having her spirit reside in it. I remember thinking if I died as a child, I would do this with one of my teddy bears. One of my mother's friends is from the same town the doll resides in, and remembered when she was young that the monk's would bring the doll out once a year for a hair cutting ceremony. The doll's hair would grow about 1" a year, and the monks would cut it very short, so she remembers the doll would end up practically bald with patchy spots.

I just have a question though, the story of the doll mentions the little girl was affect by yellow fever. This video says that Japan at a time was overrun by yellow fever. This caught my interest and I researched a bit but I cannot find anything that says Japan was overrun by yellow fever. Moreover, yellow fever originated in Africa and it can only occur in tropical regions. I could be wrong, but I just wanted to ask. If you know anything about this, please let me know.

Actually, the kid's name was Okiku, same as the doll, not Kikuko. Same goes to Eiichi, not Eiichiki. Also, the family moved not because of the doll but because of work. The family doesn't think of bringing Okiku because they didn't want to take Okiku away from the girl's grave.

About the Okiku Doll and its growing hair, theres something similar to that in DisneyLand/DisneyWorld (I dont remember which ride though) The dolls hair would stretch and look like its growing due to the humidity (If I remember correctly)- Its probably something like that. And I vote Robert is more scary- but it is possible that the maid was moving it, though the doll breaking stuff in Genes room seems real. To be honest, all of these seem like good spooky stories to tell next time im staying up late at a friends house

Not only was this Fantastic viewing but you featured the Busby Stoop ❤ I'm just a few miles away from there, used to drive past it every day, it's a wonderful old building that served as a coach and horses pub for centuries until around 15 years ago when even in the middle of nowhere, it became an Indian restaurant. Thirsk Musuem is amazing as is the James Herriot Musuem opposite, the author of the All Creatures Great and Small books about veterinary life in the early to late 20th century which has been made in TV series in the 70s and again too. Film too. Bloody cool seeing the Busby Stoop featured ❤ Then a blast from the past with a pic of the Quadrant at Swansea, I used to hang out there with my mates late eighties when my family lived there. I believe robert being at the foot of the bed was the work of the mother wanting to have a suprise for otto when he woke up, otto realized he could use robert to get away with doing bad things and so he kept doing it. To explain robert running up the stairs, that was otto, probably with the doll, not to mention otto and robert are about the same height as shown in the video. The talking and the doll responding could be attributed to otto donning a different accent or making his voice lower or higher. The cackling could be the laughter of otto. For the rest...I dont know.

A doll started moving around the basement when we weren't looking and it freaked us out. I even threw it behind a tall TV stand in the corner of the room which was blocked by boxes. It managed to crawl out of the corner and sit in the TV to look at us. Freaked out we threw it outside and it tried to get back inside. My husband took it home with him that night and threw it in their can to go to the dump the next morning. I'm still expecting to find me again one day. It was so freaky.

My sized doll sat in an old childhood rocking chair since I didn’t play with it anymore. I had gotten it for Christmas when I was 5, she was my size. My grandmother sewed marching pajamas for us that Christmas. Anyway I didn’t play with her so she sat in that rocking chair. One night I was awoken by that chair going off. As one would rock, there was a musical box on the back of one of the rails. I heard that music and thought maybe it was the wind blowing the curtain into the chair to make it rock and play the music I was hearing. In the dark I could see the white curtains that were not moving at all. I believed that doll had come alive. I screamed and had my parents take that doll completely out of the house. Happily I never saw that doll again! Dolls are definitely evil!
