The lore of the game is funny in that it kinda paints inkling society as too stupid to function properly. They can't tell the octolings are octarians, they have zero interest in archaeology despite all the glaring human remains and structures still around, and they let festivals where you shoot ink at the ground decide everything from scientific consensus to how their culture will be shaped moving forward.

It also stated that they were quite popular and almost every inkling of the generation had one in hopes of finding a boyfriend/ girlfriend.

@@da_pwo thing is Pearl has known Marina is an Octoling since they met, never told anyone, and no one else ever figured it out (aside from Capt Cuttlefish) and assumed she was just a foreigner. I think as long as the Octolings were slow and steady with their integration, no one would be any wiser; just a bunch of tourists coming in lately. Plus, teens are the majority age group we see in the games (granted it’s mostly because of players taking up plaza space); teens can be pretty dumb, and this is coming from someone born this century.

calling out the last fact cuz while yea they wrote that in the Splatune album about maritime memory, it goes against the rest of the continuity and thus does not hold up as actual splatoon lore. Maritime Memory is both musically and lyrically just the songs "City of Color" and "Calamari Inkantation" combined, with the lyrics being almost identical, with slight changes on some of the words. There is no way in any language that changing a few words of a song can change the meaning enough for maritime memory to be "a song that can only be sung at the age of seventeen, the fragile period of time between a girl and a woman." If this were truly the case, then I would have to argue that it would be equally as weird for the squid sisters to sing Calamari Inkantation and City of Color in the years following splatoon 1, which is something they do (singing calamari inkantation in splatoon 2 story mode and splatoon 3 story mode and also now that inkopolis is back they sing city of color in 3 also, which that was revealed way after this video was published but whatever). Also, Calamari Inkantation's instrumentation and lyrics came from a traditional tune from way before the events of splatoon, and sung by a very young callie and marie. Craig Cuttlefish breaking in to rap on the track is more likely just his huge support for his granddaughters.

1:57 How does this imply that Inklings had history that was similar to native Americans? The entire point of Splatoon is that sea creatures evolved after all humans went extinct. Everything from their written language, architecture, designs to culture and pop culture is an amalgamation of whatever human civilization remains they found. Having that headgear in the game would be problematic in real life but in-game it would make perfect sense that Inklings either found or re-designed it, thinking it was just some kind of neat feathery headgear humans used to wear.
