Curved Vortex in a Box
I've got 2 new inline fans that work great for vortex experiments.
This time we wanted to make a 90 degrees curved vortex, in a box. In a box because then; the surrounding air can’t disturb the vortex.
Cool thing of a vortex in a box; there are no blowing fans needed to feed the rotation.
There’s just one suction hole, and the amount of air coming in, through the curved air intakes, is exactly equal to the amount of air going out.
Note that the curved air intakes have a honeycomb in them, to give the incoming air the right direction. This proved to be essential.
Also note the chicken wire in the front right corner. Without it, air starts to swirl there, disturbing the vortex.
As you can see; the vortex isn’t steady. A bit of pulsing is normal, but there is some cause breaking it up all the time.
We learned that it is pretty stupid to make a curved vortex in a square box. But we got it to work, kind of.

That is cool another sweet curved vortex! I have not played with my tornado machine in quite some time because I have been using my shop space to build top bar beehives and you can see the on my channel

Michael Ellestad Bees fly by vortex! Every wing beat makes like a like a little tornado, a LEV, leading edge vortex. There is a lot to learn from them bees.

You should see my latest project, a solar scorcher made from a large Fresnel lens from a projection TV and it melts glass, rock, and metal all with the power of the sun

Have you tried it at a lower setting? Seems like the vortex sheds or breaks down at that speed. Anyway, glad you released some more videos!

Hi Cerebral and TheGodParticles, Thanks for your comments. We have tried like ‘everything’ to get rid of the breaking down of the vortex. We still don’t know what is causing it. A pulsing vortex is natural, but this.. I don’t know. There is kind of a rhythm to the process. At this moment I suspect that once the vortex has formed, it wants to move and stick to the back surface. Anyhow; I'm still alive, and working on it :-)

A little off subject, but I noticed the hexagonal chicken wire which makes me ask, have you ever shot a smoke ring through a tube and noticed how it is hexagonal in nature upon exiting the tube but quickly degrades? I will make a video and send it...

Hi Giesbert! Do you familiar with the Russian physicist Atsukovsky VA? His scientific research related to the structure of nuclear particles and the universe. It is based on the toroidal vortices. I think you might be interested ... Thank you for your work, it is very interesting and important for everyone.

abba zhaba Atsukovsky VA? No, I don't know about his work. But it sounds interesting. Thanks for the tip!
