I know a lot of people seem concerned about the finger squishing potential, but that's a good thing. Kids need to learn to negotiate the dangers of the world in a controlled manner, and this provides a perfect opportunity for that. I also totally want a curvy board now! That looks fun

Being born in 1964, I remember us playing with boards and tin cans, making stilts or balancing boards. We fell and we got bloody scratches. Mother washed it out, put som iodin and a band-aid on it and we were out in the woods 15 min later. Good to see kids play kind of the same way. Best wishes from Germany

Haha Exactly! My mom used something called Mercurochrome (same function as iodine) that was bright red in color, so after treatment you looked even bloodier - we loved it because it made us look tough 😂

We used to play with knives and chainsaws. Was all in good fun. If someone lost an arm, a drop of brandy under the tongue and off you'd go again. Those were the days.

I was using hammer and nails around the age of 8, wood saw too - I can still cut a 2x4 faster with a hand saw faster than most can with a radial saw - and the handsaw ALWAYS works, don't need a rechargeable battery or an outlet to plug it in

In the mid-60s my dad made toy car molds and melted solid lead into them for my brother and I. Matthias understands that kids play more with the wrapping paper than the purchased toy.

It's a little-known-fact that the curvy board is one of the earliest known pre-historic inventions, coming just after fire. It is the necessary precursor and predecessor to the invention of the wheel. Without the curvy-board, we would all still be dragging things on the ground.

Do you not use a glue bottle just to be ornery? Not trolling, just a genuine question. I really like the titebond glue bottle caps for dispensing. I cant seem to find anything that I like better to replace it. Went and watched the old video, excellent as always. Too bad this style of video making isnt more successful with the youtube algorithms. Really nice to see you have stayed true to your content since the early days. Dont change! I think you should push patreon more. I have never given a penny on patreon but you're one of the few that I would consider subscribing for. Consistently high quality content.

I have a couple questions I could use help understanding for my own edification: 1. Why such shallow fingers on the joints? Just because that's all the strength they'd need since the edge-gluing will be supporting most of it? 2. Why resaw to even out the bottom? Would a jointer work for that too, if you had enough width?

I’m sure the glue is plenty strong for any force children can put on it, but the holes made me think about dowels. I’m not experienced, but is there any risk of twisting force or difference in density causing cracks over time? Again, they’re kids, and they’ll probably grow out of it before they can do serious damage, but do you think dowels would make a significant enough difference in a project like this to be worth the trouble? And which do you think is stronger, this one or the laminated one?

yes, there is risk. might happen, probably not.
