This was a fun one to learn, thanks for the lesson! I was certain he played this with The Black Crowes when I saw them in 2000 but I googled the setlist and I was wrong, They did the Wanton Song though which was killer. I'm not much of a Crowes fan but Page is my hero and to this day it's the only chance I've had to see him.

"Royal Orleans" is another one that I'm not certain if it was played live. That wild tale of what went down at the Hilton in New Orleans.

No, never did that live. Only Achilles and Nobody’s Fault from that album...until For Your Life at the O2 reunion.

In your other video where you play through it you play the E as a regular open chord on the first fret. And also the G. Does it matter? Ive watched jimmy play this with the Black Crowes and I can’t tell which way he does it.

How many strings are you hitting for each note of the main riff? Just the fourth string, or are you clipping the 5th or even 5th and 6th as well?

Great question. Why did they never do this great song live?? They did The Rover, why not this??
@jamesjames9275Ай бұрын
They didn't really play The Rover, just the intro leading into Sick Again. They did part of The Rover at one or two Australia shows in 1972, but only a few seconds of it during Dazed and Confused.

Are you palm muting? Strumming all strings but top?
@jamesjames92752 жыл бұрын
Yes, muting so the riff is really 5ths, i.e., lay off the higher strings on the main riff.
@dynjarren83553 жыл бұрын
The riff you referred to calling it that Blue thing is the Chuck Berry riff. At least that’s what I call it because he invented it. It’s a simple two note riff with the pinkie playing the add on note on the second string lower. You know this classic riff. The basis for Chuck Berrys songs and rock songs afterwards. JetAirliner by Steve Miller uses it. During the verse. Moving on, out on the road, I’ve been down before, you can hear it clearly under the vocal. Dada dada, dada dada. Got to keep on keeping on. The big wheel keeps spinning around. Dada dada, dada dada. Great use of the classic riff! It’s generic and great for writing rock songs. It’s so basic! It’s the first two fingers on the first and second strings. The index finger on the top and the second finger on the second string and then the pinkie presses the second string one fret higher on and off rhythmically. And the rhythm is dada dada, dada dada. Strum it twice and then apply the pinkie for one strum on the third strum and take it off for the fourth. It’s very simple but it works! Then you go an octave up and then up again and then back to the first one. Most early R&B songs have that pattern. It was great and easy to pick up! That’s Chuck Berry! He was the first to do that as far as I know. And it’s the basis for a lot of his songs and rock n roll in general. RIP Chuck Berry. He lived to be 90!

Hate to be "that" guy, but to my ears, that F7 chord sounds more like an F/G on the original version....Been enjoying these videos for years. Thanks for putting them out there!
@AnthonyBurrito13133 жыл бұрын
It’s F7
@jamesjames92753 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyBurrito1313 Definitely sounds F7 to me. In the live Plant/Page versions, you can see he got a little lazy and did it as a straight F to G in that part. But the studio recording sounds like 7th chords.
@rich-moporter3 жыл бұрын
I think we're talking about two different places in the song. I agree, it's an F7 before the G7. I was referring to the chord right after the E.
@rich-moporter3 жыл бұрын
And I should have said G7 in the original comment. I'm going to go back to just watching now. 🙂
