Why not put a newer Toyota 4.7 liter V8. I'd prefer to keep it all Toyota. The reason these vehicles are so loved is their reliability.

Mr. Cairo timing belt every 90k. There is a tundra with one million miles with 4.7. Look for you tube video. Toyota bought it back from the owner to examine it.

What went into the suspension? Are those custom control arms w/ Currie joints like we see on your Bronco models? Has any attention been paid to the trac bars and heavier duty steering? The Toyota looks beautiful, by the way!

cost aside, a diesel would be a great asset to a utilitarian vehicle. Over seas, the majority of 4x4 platforms are sold with diesels so their owners can make good use of the added torque and driving range. Would love to see some conversions from your talented facility!

I would love to see how you fit the exhaust manifolds in there. Did you use the LS3 manifolds that came with E-rod engine? All the searching I've done says that you need block hugger headers to fit within the frame rails. I would love to do this swap, but since I'm in Cali, I would have to keep it CARB certifiable. If possible, could you post video of this area? Thank you.

Just bought a 91 80 series $3200 210k miles from a Marine Lt shipping out to S.C. his home two kids two other cars and a bride couldn’t take the Landy he had it 2 yrs kept an impeccable log since he owned it was always a Cali Truck now it lives in Vegas. I found a retired Toyota Mechanic who loves to work on the iconic Trucks. I’m 70 he’s 77 so we think alike. These Trucks should be kept as close to original as possible. Who wants to go fast in a Pre safety featured Classic and pay exorbitant dollars to do it. Not going to lift Nigel ( Name we settled on ) not going to crawl over boulders that’s crazy in my opinion. Going to make sure mechanically sound put $150 a month into upkeep and we will fish Camp desert explore and enjoy the truck as intended. Comments welcomed. Not trying to question anyone motives but I bought the truck because it needed me.

We Drove the 80 series from Kenya to South Africa and then much later from Nairobi to the Ethiopian capital with no after modifications at all........... and just one puncture impeeded our journey. I am thinking with these modifications these beast will go around the world sans problem....
@cwehbe

+njoroge waiganjo Probably not. Toyota engines are the most reliable in the world, GM engines are not.
@charleswaiganjo4190
@charleswaiganjo4190 8 жыл бұрын
Ooooh yes I agree... I forgot about the engine change he did in the truck..... The stock engine in the series is underpowered though probably justifying the GM engine.
@cwehbe
@cwehbe 8 жыл бұрын
njoroge waiganjo True, but they could have used a new V8 Toyota engine, even the 4.7 liter is very powerful and made of iron so bullet proof reliability. Or they can go brand new with the 5.7 liter new Toyota V8 in the new Land Cruiser. I'm afraid they went the cheap way, cutting corners. If people wanted GM reliability they wouldn't have bought a Toyota.
@charleswaiganjo4190
@charleswaiganjo4190 8 жыл бұрын
I agree with you 100%. They mated an unrelaible engine to a Toyota. However, and probably this may not be a mainstream opinion among cruiser lovers where the new v8s the 5.7 litre one particulary... do you think they have gone overkill with the computer stuff? I mean imagine the mechanical stuff is easy to repair in the bush. Like in the case of the 1990s landrover defenders and the landcruisers of the same period?
@cwehbe
@cwehbe 8 жыл бұрын
njoroge waiganjo Well... yes and no. If this were a Toyota engine I would have no problem with the computers since they are reliable. But in this case, GM engines, not so much. I don't mind computers as long as they are reliable.

Beautiful work, how much would a project like this cost? (without including the cost of the LC itself).
@rcairforceone
@rcairforceone 7 жыл бұрын
There's more than $20,000 in parts alone, not including the labor for a build like this. It might sound crazy but they rebuilt this vehicle from the inside out. That's very labor intensive.

People that do not have a fleet of trucks with the current GM v8s like my company does do not know shit about reliability. Now my truck may actually fall apart but I have 2 vortec 5.3 with over 300k and a 6.0 HD with 380k and a wimpy 4.3 v6 with over 400k miles. All original other than basic bolt on parts ( alternator, brake booster, etc). But that is just basic maintenance. These engines have made us millions of company dollars since we bought the first one in 2002 and have long paid for themselves. I want an 97 cruiser with a 2017 GM 6.2. Too bad jonathon could not have it ready until 2020. Lol.
