I have a Scotty phantom with black 6061 aluminum and 303 stainless steel. Would I mess up the black aluminum if I dropped the entire head into acetone ???
@igolf906
@igolf906 Ай бұрын
No. The acetone will only affect the paintfill, and any possible adhesives that may be in or on the putter.

Amazing, love the colour choice. What is the fluid you put into the dots before the paint and what paint do you use? Thanks
@igolf906
@igolf906 Жыл бұрын
For filling large areas, I use a light film of isopropyl alcohol. It lets the paint flow better and keeps the paint, bubble free and stays glossy! And this is all Testors brand paint.

@igolf906 B So the Iso kind of thins and dilutes the paint?
@igolf906
@igolf906 Жыл бұрын
@@randybobandy9828 sort of. If applied correctly it kind of floats on top of it and fills any crevice that the iso is in, until it dries. Also stays glossy. So in a sense I don't think it dilutes it because it never changes the color of the original paint.

Why did you opt to paint over blueing?
@igolf906
@igolf906 11 ай бұрын
You can't blue stainless steel. There are some black oxide treatments you can use but not bluing. And this is what the customer wanted for their putter.

AWESOME JOB on that putter!! I turned out SWEET!!! What product do you use between the putter head and the insert? And, is it the same as used on an older tei3 Scotty? Also, can you cerekote over nickel plating? Like on a SC Pro Platinum. Or does the nickel plating need to be stripped completely before blasting? I'm learning this talent as I go. And, so far so good. I've got the dents and dings out of my Scotty Pro Platinum with the wheel, and a dremel, thanks to what I've learned watching your videos. Thank you for that!!! Sincerely! I sand blasted with fine grit glass bead at 60-70psi. So, mine's not as porous as this putter in this video. Then I tried to black out the putter with Birchwood Casey perma blue kit. But there's parts of the putter that perma blue doesn't stick to. So there's still some nickel plating remaining on the putter, apparently. I thoroughly cleaned the putter with the Birchwood Casey cleaner after blasting, and used latex gloves to handle it. So, there's no oils from my hand left on the metal. Should I have used a harsher medium to blast it? And put it in the oven, like you did? Or?? Either way I believe I'm going to try cerekoting it. The Perma Blue left me less than pleased with the finish. Even after 3 coats, and buffing with steel wool... Thanks!!

I own several classic Scotty's but I don't buy them beat to hell like you😄. I pay fair market value for ones with no imperfections then just clean them up with some flitz or semi-chrome, micro crystalline wax, rubbing alcohol, 303 rubber preservative rejuvenator for the grips and some KPL camellia oil for the carbon steel head... Nothing like what you do so it explains why my question is so simple. I need to fill the paint on the Titleist wording on the sole and face. what kind of paint do you use, how long do you let it sit, and why does the excess easily wipe off when it's permanent paint, yeah?
@igolf906
@igolf906 Жыл бұрын
I use Testors Enamel for most colors. Especially dark surfaces like black cerakote, etc. If it's a standard bead blasted stainless type finish I'll use the translucent Tamiya. Because then the steel behind it makes it really shine nice. Anyways, it cleans up easily because you are actually FILLING the stamped logos with paint. So when you wipe it with acetone, youre being very gentle not to push too hard, and it cleans up everything above the stamp.

Own T100s irons in the black finish. Want to paint in the numbers red but didn't see how you were able to remove the paint that was not in the grooves. Thank you in advance
@igolf906
@igolf906 10 ай бұрын
For something like that, you would need an actual paint remover. I use a 2 minute gel solution from the hardware store, (watch my newest CT video) let it sit couple minutes then slowly scrap it with a fine tipped tool. And repeat. Then you can use a toothbrush with some acetone to brush it clean.

On a binge of your videos. Lovely work, truly! Have you ever weighed a putter head before and after a restoration? There has to be a tiny amount of loss, yea?
@igolf906

Hi, this is an incredible videos, I just have one question is that if you grind down the metal, then the head is lose weight, it will impact the swing set ?
@igolf906
@igolf906 10 ай бұрын
I've weighed multiple restores before and after, and on average there is only a 1 to 5 gram loss of weight. And being that it's equally across the entire head, 99% of gamers wouldn't notice the difference.

Is cerakote more durable than powder coat? Looks amazing btw.
@igolf906
@igolf906 Жыл бұрын
I'd say they are similar. Both will wear over time but. The reason cerakote is used more than powder is because of Cerakotes resistance to solvents. So between cleaning, paintfill and all of that, it holds up much better than MOST powder coats.

How many coats of cerakote do you apply?if more than 1 do you wait a few minutes in between coats?
@igolf906
@igolf906 Жыл бұрын
Cerakote is applied with one layer. It is applied as what they call a "wet coat", and covers very well, but is super thin.
