When filling in the letters will acetone take off cerakote or powdercoat when cleaning off excess paint?
@igolf906 Жыл бұрын
It won't affect cerakote at all. That's why it is so widely used with putters. But powdercoat is different. I've heard SOME types of powder coat are solvent resistant but, not all of them. Not really educated much with them but that's what I do know.
@Piercemotorsports Жыл бұрын
Amazing stuff! Quick question, when your cleaning up the paint fill over the cerakote, do you use acetone on the wipes/qtip or something less harsh?

Just acetone. It won't affect the cerakote.

I did my back dots on my scotty , my old ones fell out. It came out pretty good but I have a few really small bubbles in the paint. What is the trick to avoid that
@igolf906 Жыл бұрын
Use a thin layer of isopropyl alcohol in the Dots first. If done properly should have nice even flowing paint that's glossy and bubble free. Takes some practice but for Cameron Dots it was a game changer.

Have u try to base coat the red colour with white? So it pops out more?
@igolf9062 жыл бұрын
I wanted the red to be darker and more subtle on this one. That's why I used the translucent Tamiya paint. Especially the top with the dots and the sightline. But yes, normally I would either use regular colors, or I would have covered the dots before cerakoting and kept them bright silver before Paintfilling.

That’s awesome! Is that the same paint finish Scotty cam use?
@igolf906 Жыл бұрын
No, Scotty never used Cerakote. I'm assuming all of their current black finish models are PVD or DLC finished which is a highly industrialized process.
@Rezik. Жыл бұрын
@@igolf906 which one holds up longer and which is more durable?
@igolf906 Жыл бұрын
@Rezik. Cerakote claims they're more durable than PVD or DLC but I'm not too sure about that. Also have to consider those specialized coatings are usually triple the price as an average cerakote job. The machines used to do them are upwards $100s of thousands of dollars so, not really a diy type thing.

Question, how long do you soak the clubhead in acetone to remove the paint?
@igolf9062 жыл бұрын
Usually only takes a few minutes. I'll drop it in and come back in 10 minutes and its pretty loosened up. Sometimes it takes a little more depending on the age of the putter and what not but. I also give it a quick sandblast usually too afterwards to make sure all of the paint is off the putter head.
@kennybland20242 жыл бұрын
@iGolf906 cool thanks, also you say you give it a little sandblast, what media do you use?

Do you have to chemically take off that platinum finish? Isn't that a nickel finish or something? Or can you get grind it off?
@igolf9062 жыл бұрын
The Newports are just satin finished steel. No coating. But for the Pro Platinums they are nickel plated. I have the setup to nickel plate and strip but, most every Pro Platinum that I've been sent,I've done a cerakote finish on then. So as long as it's prepped properly, doesn't need to be completely stripped.

@igolf9062 жыл бұрын
When the prep work is done properly, and as long as a headcover is used cerakote is very durable. With anything it will wear eventually especially on the sole. But I've seen people with Cerakoted putters use them for few years and still look new.
