Does the steamer make the leather more pliable and thus easier to install? What about adding a bit of padding to the base of seat will it affect the fitment?

Christopher Wood Yes, the steamer heats up the materials to make them more pliable and easier to manipulate throughout the installation. For more info, check out this Tech Tips video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKvQZYGbiKaDr7M Our upholstery patterns are designed off of the OEM seat foam, so changing the shape of the foam will cause improper fitment of the upholstery. There are times that you may need to build the foam back up to the original shape if it is damaged, but in that case, we would suggest a professional installer. Jon Svehla The steamer that we use in this video is the Jiffy J 4000W however most clothing or upholstery steamers will do just fine. We strongly recommend steam for every installation as it helps rejuvenate the seat foam and makes the upholstery more pliable and easier to install. Greg & Melba James Unfortunately we do not have a pattern for the Grand Sport. You might check with a local automotive upholstery shop though, most of the time smaller shops are tooled up to produce more one-off kits tailored to your seats specifically.
