Hello my 'Q'uties, I finally got some pigment powders in so today we are gonna be mixing up some gels to get customers colored gels for future videos. Enjoy

Oh my tell me about it. I'm trying to find solid pigment powders that aren't pearlescent so I can mix those too... if not I'll just have to get the soft chalks and do that

@@QutieNails There isn't a lot of matte mica powders on Amazon.....there's neon and maybe one other set of a few colors. Look at Michael's or Hobby Lobby or a painter's craft store. But there are some. Chalk works but girl.....the mess! And no matter if I use the E file to grind it I still get little tiny chunks in it.

@@QutieNails I found matte pigment colours on eBay by searching without the word Mica. I’ve made solid reds and pink that don’t look semi translucent. Chalks reduce the strength of builder gels and sometimes - depending on the chalk and gel - can fail to cure fully and cause fungal infections where they have remained damp between nail and product i.e. they appear cured (when tapped) but, are only cured on the surface.

Chalk in gels doesn’t cure properly underneath and risks fungal growths. You can use pure pigment powder (no shimmer) which requires microscopic quantities meaning light can still penetrate through the product to cure it fully. You can test the colours on swatches but, just be sure to cut the swatch in half to check that the area that represents the area that will be on the nail bed is cured, as often it can be wet beneath a cured/rock hard top layer because of the ingredients added to alter the colour. KZbin has a video about the science/chemistry of products and how to minimise risks when mixing your own colours.

It's so great howuch you can mix right... just remember to re stir it once you are ready to use it because as it sits the pigments and glitters will settle to the bottom of the container.

Oh you can absolutely use the mica powders for chrome powder! The neon mica powders are also awesome to use over white polish. I do it all the time in addition to making my own gel colors. You can also mix the powder with top coat to make your own gel polish. Have fun!

Me too. I saw people use chalk but I haven't tried it yet. What I have done is solid color gel polish mixed in to the builder gel.

I've been using eyeshadows to color resin etc, I guess it should work with gel as well, gonna try soon :) Mica is always shiny, but you can buy just pigments on amazon or somewhere else. But old eyeshadows you don't use anymore are probably the same thing.

I'm curious do you know if you can mix the clear super thick solid builder gel (the kind where you can literally pick it up and roll it into a ball) with gel polish to change the color of it or would I need to purchase a pigments like your using here to mix your soft builder gel with? I've seen people mix pigment powders like gold for example into the solid builder gel and it work out just fine but I don't think I've seen gel polish yet. I was thinking of buying the carving/modeling gel pots (they're similar to solid builder gel but the texture is different it almost looks like play dough or like an acrylic texture) they come in a kit of like 12 pots with different colors for like $20 but I only want to purchase the kit to make 3D flowers so there's alot of pointless colors I would never use, so it seems like a waste of money to buy all those pots to only use maybe 3 colors from the collection they sell on amazon.. and since I don't know how to use acrylic- using this modeling/carving gel or solid builder gel would be my only way of making these 3D flowers.

You certainly can mix those but it'll have to be as you are about to use it. I would purchase the pigments because polish being a liquid may change the consistency of the gel

Hi hun. So the shelf life is awesome. I've done videos since and still have great results with these. I no longer have access to the affiliate program due to lack of purchases but its all good. However keep in mind that as the mixes sit, the pigment settles to the bottom so all u have to do its stir it again to get it mixed in and ur good to go. Check out my fall leaves video and some of my glow in the dark one. I have a candy cane one coming with in 3 weeks using gels from this video.

oohh soo beautiful colours!! 😍😍 How big are the jars you used for the gels? And what ratio did you use? How much gel and how much powder did you use for each colour approximately? And did it cure completely? Did you have any problems at all? I just got some Mica powders myself but I'm not sure how to mix them correctly so that they get a good opacity and still cures all the way through 🤔 I got one kit with 50 shimmery/pearly/metallic mica powders and then another kit with 36 colours so I'll have A LOT of mixing to do 😂😍🥰

Lol... hi sweetie thank you. The jars i got are in the description box on my video..... its 7grams so very small... I filled with enough gel but not to the top. I put about 2 scoops of the powder as my powders came with a tiny spoon. Dont over fill with powder because it will spill over. Once you mix and it settles from not being used be such to mix again before applying to the nail. It cures very well with no issues for me at all.

@@chaozinga hey.. its no problem at all I enjoy interacting on here. So to measure i recommend you use a cuticle pusher that part that looks like a scoop and put about 1 and a half of those... if you feel like u need to put 2 then do so because the pigmentation of colors can vary, but since your jars are so thiny 1 and a half should be fine. Make sure not to fill to high with gel also. I hope this helps.

I just typed in '50 double walled 7 gram containers' in the Amazon search bar. They come in all different colors and numbers. If you get them in large quantities, it's either pearlized grey or pearlized white. I also got 10 more, since there were 53 powders, and I found out that you can also get blue and pink and I think one other color in tens.

💜 I'm trying to figure out the ratio of gel: pigment powder. I have all the stuff, I've used my label maker and labeled all the empty jars that the gel will go in, I'm just trying to find that ratio, and it'll be mixing time!

So I like to pour halfway up the jar with the clear gel so when I add the powder it doesn't over flow when I mix the pigment powder in. You can put little by little of the power until you get the color pigment you are wawanting. My powders came with that little spoon you saw in the video and I just use 1 and a Half of that spoon . You know like I do that this stuff ain't cheap, especially when you add it all up, and I even skimped on the label-maker and got a super cheap one off Amazon for like 9.99 or something. I was buying the clear hard gel by the oz or 2 oz container, then realized that $45 for 8oz is a much better deal 🤦🏼‍♀️ oh well, it will all get used anyways! Yeah I thought that you were supposed to pour all the pigment powder from the baggie into the jar, and then just fill it up with clear 🤭 Thanks again! Cuz I probably would have ended up with a clumpy mess! See I'm just now starting the switch to hard gel because monomer ALWAYS gives me a migraine. I was using polygel for a bit, but I don't feel like a professional doing something that they probably could've done themselves; like on the one hand I LOVE polygel because it's so easy to work with, but I just wanted to kinda be able to kinda "master my craft", ya know? I feel like you can't get that crystal clear glass look with anything but hard gel too!

I don't know if you tested your hard gel mix but there is something you need to know. I added very little powder & mixed & it made lots of bubbles which are bad. I put my gel in hot water with cap on & weighed it down & the bubbles will dissappear. You won't see it always with naked eye. You need to look at them with a magnifying glass & you will see them. Unfortunately I used my mixture & built my nails then noticed all the tiny bubbles after curing. Please let me know if you knew this, if not please tell me what I am doing wrong if I am making a mistake.

Omg wow. Thanks for that info I didn't know that was a way to get the bubbles out. I do get bubbles but not a lot because I literally mix them very slowly

@Q'utie Nails well I used the hot water thing & it worked out some. Then I put the lid back on & walked on the table, like dropping it vertically many times & a lot came to the top & I popped them. I wack jars like that when I can homemade pasta sauce. I just checked the jar & there's still little bubbles in it. I guess I'll keep trying to get them out unless you know of something else I can add to it. Let me know.

I started doing this, but i noticed when applying it to the nail, you see all the little streaks where your brush was touching, the shimme looks uneven or streaky. Any idea how to get a more even coating?

Hi Heather what I like to do is give the product a good mix before using. When applying it to the nail I place a thin slip layer then with a larger bead on top of the wet slip layer I begin to float the product keeping my brush in contact with the product always... I have not had any streaking doing this. Might I ask how you are applying your gel and what brand you are using? I want to get an understanding of how your work with the product.

@@QutieNails Right now I'm mixing with Venalisa clear builder gel. I too try to float the product, but the streaks are especially apparent if I have to adjust the structure. I try to do it in one bead of gel but I'm still new, so I usually have to go in with another bead. Perhaps more product the first time? Also curious if you would use this to build a full nail or encapsulate? Thanks so much for the quick response

Hey... yes you can as long as you have a light tight jar so it doesn't cure. Essentially what you will be creating is a gel polish color and you will still need either builder gel or acrylic to encapsulate the color and build up the nail.

Hi sweetie. So the kit I bought came with that tiny spoon and the jars are 7 grams so I put 1 and a half scoop of the powder after I add about half full of the jar with the Buildergel. I hope that helps.
