Custom Exhaust Volvo T6 Sound

This is a custom cat back I had made locally. First, we opened up the dual pipes right after the cats. I believe the stock size is 1.125" and we went to 1.5". (We matched the diameter of tubing of the cats). This made a huge improvement on low end torque, it's actually noticeable. Then the pipe necks out to 3" and goes into a vibrant ultra quiet resonator. All the way back at 3" then into a magnaflow muffler. There's an electronic cutout between the inlet to the muffler and the left side exhaust tip, therefore bypassing the muffler with the cutout open. It does drone on the freeway pretty bad, a helmholz resonator is definitely needed. Also maybe a more free flowing muffler might cut down on some drone.

Hey man! Is the exhaust loud? Because I saw in your other video that the valve is only on the left of the muffler. Do you have still sound on the right if the valve is open and is the straight pipe loud? Thanks man! :)

So the way the cutout works is when open, the exhaust pipe coming from the engine routes through the left hand side exhaust tip, basically bypassing the muffler. When closed, all gasses have to go through the muffler, thus quieting it down. So to answer your question; when closed, it's very quiet. When open, it's essentially a straight pipe.

Thanks for the fast reply man! Want do to exact the same on mine. But if i understand correctly a little bit of gas go still through the muffler or not? And is it without downpipe extremely loud? ;)

@@steff1921 yeah, muffler will still have some gas through it. And without a downpipe it'll be crazy.

It was my creation. Stock downpipe / cats. 3" pipe all the way back. Vibrant ultra quiet resonator and a magnaflow muffler. I incorporated an electronic cutout to bypass the rear muffler as well.

Stock downpipe, borla bottle resonator and a Magnaflow muffler. Has a cutout around the muffler as well. 3" piping all the way back

@@GTurbski How the sound changed compared to stock resonator? Because I want to do the exhause valve setup on mine T6 but not sure if I should spend extra on resonator or not.

@@tomasvaitkevicius7219 the stock resonator is very restrictive and heavy. I would suggest removing it. I removed the stock system in pieces - First cut off just the rear muffler, the sound didn't actually change much. Most of the sound came from removing the upstream resonator and replacing it. I chose to put a bottle resonator on just to cut down on drone. I've got a video with just the rear muffler deleted.

I have a similar muffler bypass valve in my S60. I'm thinking of removing the resonator. If you close a valve on the highway is a lot louder than the serial exhaust?

I couldn't tell the difference inside between open and closed.

@@Woocash91 Mmm.. yeah, it is. If I were to do it again I would include a Heimholtz resonator as well to help reduce drone further. Resonator is by far the most restrictive and noise isolating part of the stock system. If you remove it, it's going to drone quite badly.

This was a pieced together exhaust. I bought a muffler and resonator and had this built at a shop. I used a vibrant ultra quiet resonator and a magnaflow muffler.

Indeed it's the same engine. It's a full catback. Has a muffler and a resonator.
