Custom Guitar Build - The Basilisk - Birdseye Zebrawood Top [Full Build]

This is the complete build video on the making of the Basilisk custom guitar. This is a design that I have named the Basilisk, and it is my own design with some influences from PRS. This build was completed on September 7th, 2020.
The body is Ash with a birdseye zebrawood top, the neck is Pau Ferro, and the fretboard is zebrawood.
The pickups are the Crimson Guitars "Classic Hookers" set.
The bridge is a Hipshot HM-Gibraltar bridge, the tuners are locking Hipshot open-gear tuners.

The amp we were using was a Hughes & Kettner TubeMeister Deluxe 20w, and all of the guitar sounds you hear were recorded using the amp's onboard H&K Red Box DI, which was plugged directly into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (3rd gen) Pedals used were: Reverb - Source Audio Ventris Tube Screamer - JHS Bonsai Boss Waza Craft Blues Driver (I am not being paid to promote any of these products, nor were they provided to me for free or at a discount).

That body shape is fantastic, its like you've blended what I like in an Ibanez and a PRS together and its so well balanced. The finish is superb too; its so nice when a guitar is as striking and interesting on the back as it is on the front. Also if we can have dog cameos for all demos that'd be ideal Incredible work dude!

I love all your designs but I think this is the first one that I see myself playing. Only thing I’d add is a forearm contour but that’s nitpicking. Definitely hoping this design will be on the template shop :) Nice job dude!!

I just browse around online for the most part, many of the tops I've used are pieces I found on ebay. The top for this guitar came from Cook Woods www.cookwoods.com/collections/electric-guitars

Do you run a ground wire from cavity to cavity to connect the shielding paint? Or is there enough coverage from assembly screws? In particular, I'm thinking about the pickup cavities. I'm new to guitar work, but in general electrical work, shielding only works if grounded.

I used to use flat black paint for the pickup cavities because I didn't think shielding would do anything there either, but enough people told me it makes a difference that I figured I might as well use the shielding paint. Besides, the worst case scenario is that it just does nothing, so there wasn't much to lose. That said, the shielding isn't there for grounding purposes, it's there to prevent the components from picking up outside electrical signals, like a faraday cage. Plenty of stories out there of a when a guitar with unshielded cavities is in a certain corner of the room, talk radio starts coming out of the amp.

@@OrbitalGuitars Thanks. Usually these work better when grounded, but like you said, a Faraday shield like this could protect from radio waves coming from directions facing the rear of the guitar. It's a good point I hadn't really considered. We had built a big set of Tesla coils, but in that case, the cage was to protect from outside-in, not for RF coming from the outside. It's hard to find good info on this these days because there's so much marketing out there to play on fears of EMF and wallet scans, etc.
