This is the complete build video on the making of the Wyvern custom guitar. This is a design that I have named the Wyvern, and it is my own design with some influences from both Strandberg and PRS. This build was completed on June 9th, 2020.
The body is Bog Oak with a maple core, the neck is Flame Maple and Wenge, and the fretboard is Chechem (aka Black Poisonwood).
The pickups are the Fishman Fluence Tosin Abasi Signature set.
The bridge is a Hipshot HM-Gibraltar bridge, the tuners are locking Gotoh tuners.
The knobs are black metal dome with red abalone from Q-Parts.

In the past I've run into an issue where the black finish on the bridge/tailpiece didn't make a very good ground connection. The black coated stop bar and studs I was working with required I remove the finish where the ground wire contacted the stud, the stop bar to stud contact area and then the string through holes. Once I removed just enough of the black finish the hum went down and the output seemed to stabilize (the output was reduced due to the poor grounding of the strings). I understand not all black plating, anodized or painted finishes are equal, I just mentioned this because it took me a bit of effort to track down the problem. Nice work Sir.

I would click "Like" twice if I could. This is one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen. I'm watching a lot of guitar builds lately to prepare to make my first guitar, and I've learned quite a bit from this video. Thanks for sharing this with the world!

Hey - you're back! Wondered where you had been as I hadn't seen anything for a while. I'm not sure if I like this one better or the Chimera. I love the sandwich construction on this one - the stained maple strip in the middle looks great and matches the design of the laminations in the neck-through. And I love the way you do the 12th fret inlay - the addition of a different coloured dust is a very nice evolution on that idea of using the small rocks. Congrats on the webstore too - Best of luck with selling your guitars.

😊The ground wire should have been striped more, so that its entire contact length is actually in contact with housing, not partially. As it was done the insulation being thicker than the wire precludes effective metal to metal contact even with the high compressive forces of the screws. The craftmanship and the sound are superb

One question, how does filing down the top of the nut change how high the strings are off of the frets? I would assume the problem with cutting the string slots in the nut too deep is related to the strings being too close to the frets at that end of the neck, making adjustments to relief much less effective, and raising the action at the bridge would be of negligible help at best, correct?
@OrbitalGuitars
@OrbitalGuitars 3 жыл бұрын
The complaint I was addressing was that the nut was too tall which would cause the strings to bind in it and hurt tuning stability, not that the strings were too close to the fretboard.

Its a VERY gorgeous guitar. I LOVE the body style and the headstock matches the rest of it (which I've found many other luthiers don't do well). My only 2 personal preferences: 1. I agree with you, the original colors of the lighter woods looked awesome. 2. With multi-wood guitars, I wish more folks would have a "dry" (Dry rub?) or natural wood look instead of the gloss. A more matte finish or whatever compound that would retain the original wood look and feel. But these wood grains also look great with the matte black hardware. All personal preferences of course. - Beautiful guitar nevertheless.
