Great idea and wonderful outcome. Maybe keep one of the doors to make moulds of to produce more display stands?

Looks amazing 🤩 Perhaps if you find a spinning base, you can detail both sides and have He-man on one side and Skeletor on the other.

Just a little tip on the Metal, if you're interested. Try painting it black and then carefully drybrush some of the silver paint on the extruded details. That gives it a better worn metal look and it is easy to pull off. Love the stand idea!
@needfoolthings
@needfoolthings Жыл бұрын
Or use that same dark brown to base the metal, too. You would've been able to give the whole thing a nice solid undercoat without a care in the world. The metal would look a little grimier than with a black undercoat. But the general tip remains: always think in layers.

Leave it to you, Toy Palloi to come up with solutions to broken whatnot. If MOTU were still a thing, you could sell this idea to a third party manufacturer! Great idea!

Crazy idea: Leave a door the stock green and paint a figure to match. Sort of an army-man-green display. Man-at-arms would be amazing!

Excellent work Dave! I like the one with the bigger base the most- the figure standing on the larger floor makes it look part of the whole thing.

Great job! It looks really good and I get that with that color scheme it can work for nearly any fantasy figure, but strictly from a MOTU standpoint, the colors don’t look very ‘Eternia’. I was kinda hoping you’d go with a blue-green rotting wood door and purple-y paving stones to play up the Eternia vibes. Still, all in all it’s a great idea and a fantastic result!

They look good. If you want to try something a bit different, give citadel contrast paints or an equivalent a go. They will give you easy natural highlighting to really take a painting project to the next level. Really easy to do, base coat with either wraithbone spray or grey seer, then one coat of wyldwood contrast would do the wood of the door. Then basiculum grey on the metal, with maybe a metallic highlight. Also recommend some static grass to take the base to the next level.

My nephews both asked why I keep so many broken bits of their toys... Now, having watched your video with them, they've been going through their own toy boxes looking for parts for me to make something similar to these brilliant stands of yours - One has produced a solar panel from a TIE Fighter and some broken droid parts, and the other some outcroppings of "rock" from his old dinosaur playset! Time to put me "Thinking Head" on - H-wor E-wor C-wor K-wor-zel! ;)

Yes, just water. You can use it on milliput to smooth and shape it before it sets. I think it says that on the instructions on the box.

I think these would look great with the additional of a bit of a sculpted stone architrave around the door. The overall shape of these doors looks a bit odd to me, the way the sides of the doors have that bit that nips in doesn't look very door-like to me. It looks like it's shaped the way it is to accommodate a mechanism that is no longer present.
