Reached out to a Jeep dealer Friday about a Grand Cherokee 4xe that's been sitting on the lot. MSRP like 63000, the dealer said they couldn't go below invoice at like 61000. I thanked them and cut off communication. I understand that they aren't going to give me their best price through email, but that price wasn't worth me wasting more time by visiting the dealer.

Correct - that's the way most people should shop. When I purchased my last vehicle I emailed three dealers asking for their best and final price and told them I would choose the dealer with the lowest price - and I did. Later I took my vehicle in for service at a closer dealer and my salesman asked why I didn't give them a second chance as they could have beat the deal I got. I told him again I said "best and final deal" in my email.

Dealers are always dishonest when it comes to rebates. About 20 years ago, I saw an ad for a Ford truck, and upon reading the fine print, it showed that there were two rebates, where if you qualified for one, you could not get the other and vice versa. Yet the ad had included both in determining the final price.

I had a '14 Jeep GC, and a '15 Wrangler Unlimited. Both stickered just over $32k. The Wrangler gave me no issues over the 3 years I had it, but no longer wanted an off-road vehicle that was always on road (we get 12-24" snow here in NW PA per storm) and was killing my back with the seats and ride. The '14 GC was bought used after the Wrangler. Transmission started to go after 96k miles, and the two dealers in the area denied anything was wrong (hoping to delay until the 100k powertrain warranty was over I figured). Jeeps used to be blue-collar vehicles that were known for less than average reliability. But you lived with the low reliability because parts were cheap, everyone knew hot to fix one and you could easily trade up for another Heap with little down. Now they are priced (and have the reliability of) like Range Rovers! Who wants a $70k vehicle that is as average build quality as these heaps? They are great cheap fun for $30k, but when I spend $70 I would expect Toyota reliability and BMW performance. CJD response? Let's build more car magazine Frankenstiens with 392 engines and add even more parts that no one uses. I doubt 5% of Wranglers actually go off-road to places where another average CUV with AWD couldn't make it as well.

My current 2020 ranger lease is only 380.00 a month. Guess I'm buying my ranger at end of lease in a few months. I'd be nuts not to buy it. @@Wiggywom Yeah I always wondered how long my electric windows and locks would last, seeing has how mine leaked at the corners where the windshield and top met the upper door sill. No amount of re- alignment would put an end to it. The "mucker pad" was absolutely the mot useless device on the sill. Every time it rained there were water beads on the door locks buttons. I had the JKU Rubicon and despite the Dana 44 axles , lockers, and electric sway bar disconnect, it is still not a $60K vehicle. It's a $35-40K vehicle at best. Now that Jeep has completely ruined the engine/transmission options, there was no way I was buying a third one. The JL needs a V6, but the 3.6L Pentastar has got to go. Something was never right with it. Both my 2014 and 2016 were relentless with the check engine light and P0300 misfire codes. The dealer refused to even log the codes into their system. Okay I have a 100% serious question. When you keep talking about the “affordability” problem with buying cars why don’t you focus on any of the many vehicles that are affordable. For example, almost nobody actually needs a 80-100k pickup truck or SUV. However for you know what & giggles I looked up my local Ford dealer & they had about 7 or 8 F-150’s under 50k with no ADM & incentives around 5k that the overwhelming majority of truck buyers would meet & an additional $2,500 that they might qualify for. Also, why not talk about cars like the Trax which start in the low 20s & fully maxed out are still under 30k. Why not talk about cars like the Equinox, Escape or Compass which can be had pretty well equipped in the mid 30’s instead of focusing on the outlandish. The simple fact is 90% of people don’t need any of these 50k & up vehicles and if you really want to help people maybe start directing people towards the ones that are actually affordable.
@MBynum
@MBynum 9 ай бұрын
Exactly. Volkswagen Jetta, Hyundai Elantra and Mazda 3 are also affordable as long as people do their research and don't get duped by fake markups and fees. But I will say that most of the under $20K vehicles I've seen on various stealerships in my area are either 110K+ mileage or damage/accidental cars from their Carfax report. I think they're concentrating too much on the high-end stuff that a good majority won't end up buying.

I’m on my 3rd Jeep. 2 Wranglers and a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, that I bought for my wife’s birthday several years ago. I currently have a Jeep Wrangler JK. It seems to me Jeep has a long term business plan to turn Wranglers into luxury status symbols. Wranglers are priced right up there with Range Rovers now. Wranglers have become a rather common sight in the driveways of expensive homes. Teens, with upper income parents, are pretty commonly seen driving an expensive Wrangler to school. Jeep apparently has adopted Ford and GM’s business plan to sell less vehicles that are considerably more expensive because that strategy is producing bigger profits. I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

A published discount is only the tip of the discount. A savvy buyer should be able to get much more off MSRP.

I'm considering purchasing a used 2021 BMW x7 (certified pre-owned from BMW dealership). List price is $65k about 30k miles on it. Kelly blue book is $59,267 - $63,990. Fair purchase price $61,629 (CPO). Previously leased. How much can I negotiate?

Make them give you extended bumper to bumper or even buy it at a discount.. that car can be a money pit!

@@larryjohnny are BMWs really that bad? Should I just get a telluride? The x7 is nice, but if it’s that much of a pain, maybe it’s not worth it.

@0:45 - Every number in that graphic is more than I just paid for a used Lexus with a flawless service record. Three of the 4 numbers are a multiple more than what I paid. I hold the title because I used cash.

I worked for a new car dealership as a transporter, EVERY Dodge/Ram/jeep we took in on trade had to be brought back to a dealer for recalls and dash lights. With that said, they are all overpriced junk. After I was done with that BS "career" I bought a 23 year old Toyota 4runner. My first foreign car. I'll drive it until I die.

You will NEED a $20K discount to offset the service shop time expenses due to all the unresolved issues that Jeep is perfectly OK with putting off on their customers. I had about $6,000 of these on my 2010 Wrangler but only because I traded it on a Toyota at 60K miles.The clutch issue (2nd clutch) was starting to repeat itself at 50K miles. Only needed about 3 clutches to get to 60K miles I think.

I don’t know what state he is in? Here in Oregon if you are under bankruptcy (usually for five to seven years) you have to get approval from the bankruptcy court to go further into debt. A reasonable vehicle within the budget would be OK but not huge foolish car payment.
