So that's a 06A pan, is this a 1.8t block or a TDI block? Looking at putting together a "cheap" 16vT with one of my spare ALH blocks bored out, EA888 pistons, and a set of aftermarket ABA/ABF rods. You're some of the only people in North America still doing anything serious with 16v engines lol, everyone is too busy with the 20v/VR6/07K engines right now.
@COMotorsports Жыл бұрын
It's a 1.8t block. Bit of stuff has to be changed to make it work. EA888 Pistons... you'd want to ensure the valve reliefs are cut appropriately for the older 16v head. Not sure how well they match up, never looked.
@boostaddict_ Жыл бұрын
@@COMotorsports Saw someone on Vortex running them, but definitely going to check clearances especially if I oversize valves. They have a 1mm lower compression height and they're dished, plus they're way stronger so they should hold boost well.

@COMotorsports is there any chance of boost leak at the slip joint at the throttle body? Looking at the videos you can see a bit of deflection between the throttle body and inter cooler and just as you lift. Hard to replicate when doing a smoke test. I noticed it on the very fist run on this video, it looked to be part of the intake design - but is it at the travel limit?
@COMotorsports Жыл бұрын
There is movement in those HD clamps, that's the way they are designed. And I have them mapped out so there's room for them to expand. Also the IC is on rubber isolators so it can move as well as the engine is mounted solid to the chassis. Basically I think what you're actually seeing is it blow up like a balloon due to pressure and everything expands then pressure is released and everything sort of goes back to it's home. With that said I'm keeping an eye on all that stuff to ensure we have no major leaks. I have a few tricks to try when the time comes for testing if something's happening under load. With that said, what we found in the intake manifold is major leak, and with a major leak on the post IC side can cause the BOV to creep so there may be a combo of things happening here. First is fix manifold. Thanks for looking out for us.

Haven't used it in real life yet. However compared to much larger mainstream companies it does leave stuff on the table. Growth, expansion, support, software/hardware developments, or simply moving to a different platform and just bringing the ECU over with you. There's only so much you can do with a 20 year old ECU. So your hands are tied a bit in comparison is all. Does it seem like a good option.. yes, however for not much in the difference you can get a lot more capabilities is all I've typically said. I've backed myself into a corner in the past going with less mainstream standalone options and you save in the beginning but you end up paying the price when it comes to support, software/hardware development and knowledge base. It's nice with some of these companies to be able to pick up the phone 24/7 and get a person on the other line to answer a technical question.
