Cody Martin Moving the wheel out with a negative offset with even more weight is drastically ramps up the force applied to the bearings and ball joint in particular. Think of it like a lever. If you choke up on the lever closer to the pivot point you’ll need to exert more force to move it, whereas if you move out further on the lever handle it is much easier to move. Basically if you’re going to go with a large wheel and negative offset, don’t go as cheap as you can to lift it. While my truck is still stock for now, I’ve thrown out any possibility of basic leveling spacer with independent front suspension because they don’t correct ball joint and cv angles. Negative offset wheels can make it even worse. I’ll end up with a proper lift when it’s time because a good lift will supply the necessary components to lessen these issues. Not much fix for the hub bearings themselves though.

Also, as the wheel moves further out, the more the front wheels move like a radio flyer wagon. They no longer pivot around the hublike what was demonstrated in the video, but they swing in an arc forward and back as you turn the wheel.

Part two of this series would be great! I would recommend you take the same wheel in a couple sizes, and a couple tire combos, and show them side by side so people can see the difference from the side, from the front, and from the top-down view. Even better if you line the hubs up along a line so we can see the offset. It would be really helpful to visualize... take your 3 most popular wheel sizes (e.g., 18 x 9 +1, 20x10 - 24, and 20x12 - 44)... and do the side-by-side in 33/35/37 of some popular tire.

Great info bro, Love the football throw you added! Speaking from experience with adding larger tires, and as you already know, the biggest surprise people have by adding larger tires is they don't realize how its going to effect their fuel mileage!! Most don't care but after time that cost adds up quickly. Especially when they only have a 1/2 ton, power to the ground quickly decreases too.

You gotta remember too that with a negative offset you are no longer turning the wheel on its center axis. this makes the wheel swing out further as you turn which pushes it deeper into bumpers at full lock.

I spents weeks researching wheels and tires for my 2022 ram rebel. Finally decided on 20x10 -18 offset with 305/55r20 tires and guess what? Ive seen other trucks with this same setup and on your website and they alll claimed there was no rubbing or scrubbing. But mine do. Even though they are the same trucks and size wheels and tires.

2015 f350 100% stock suspension (factory "plow package"...stiffer front springs). went from factory 275/70/18 33" tall 10.8" wide tires to 285/75/18 again on factory rims. 35" tall 11.2" wide. no issues including when i hang my 1000 lb plow off the front. plenty of clearance in every direction. i believe 100% i could fit 12 5's with the factory offset, maybe 13 5's.

2017 Ram 1500 Big horn 4x4 stock with 35x12.5 17 tires on +18 offset 17x9 inch wheels and i barely rub the inner side, rear of the wheelwell at full lock. Only ever hear rubbing for a split second at that.

I got a 33 mud tire 20rim but wasn't happy with the size looks kinda small..I would recommend a 35 if you are already used to the rubbing then go 35 if you don't like the rub just get a 33 mud..up to you...truck is level to the factory back tires so kinda up there...

People don't understand the degree of inclination the spindles have will make the tires arc up and down and the camber will change making the tire move around some in the wheel opening. It is way more than just the static ride height position.

The math and offsets blew me away as a first timer into a truck. Could you offer me the best configuration for a daily driver(95% pavement) on a 2021 Ford F150 Lariat 5.0 4x4 that has been leveled. I want to run 20" wheels holding Nitto Ridge Grapplers with enough sidewall height to make the best road comfort possible. I'd like to establish a decent configuration before I place my final order for the truck without dealer "recommendations". I'm sure I'll be reordering wheels for the tires after I get the truck. Is it the narrower the wheel the higher the sidewall? I know it's a lot but thanks in advance.

What about lock to lock clearance at full suspension compression? I rarely see this addressed. I see a lot of guys with rub marks that thought the did all the right things. Then they rub at full compression, and not even to full lock..

Chad, only way you'd get full suspension compression is pulling into something really really steep or have too much load. most of these guys are doing stuff on the street and want an aggressive look

Can anyone tell me if I would need to do any body trimming to run a 22×12 -44 with 33s on a 07 Tahoe that has a 3.5 lift? Would it be smarter to just go with a 20×10 -25? The setup im looking at is a difference of only abot 250, $300 between the two wheel sizes and I would kinda like to go with the bigger set if it's not too much of a hassle. I found on my ram the stock wheel is 20x8 with a +19mm offset.... Ended up going with a 20x9 -12mm offset..and with a 6" lift mathmaticlly it will clear with no issues👍
