Omg, this has helped me sooo much. I’ve been pulling my hair out as to why the wall I painted has left a line between the cut in and the rolling. Now I know, back roll and don’t let it dry before I roll it. I’ve changed to quite a dark colour so it really sticks out. Many, many thanks.

I'm not a professional painter but just a really good painter and your videos have helped me get much better. I have an issue with one coating walls. It seems chicken shit. If you can't afford two coats, don' paint the wall... Even if the paint covers it's amazing how that second cut in dials in your ceiling angles and trim so much better. Explaining about a 1 coat finish and how to split hairs on a zig zag finish with a roller seems silly. Great job explaining the back rolling. I have tried your caulking tape lines with great success too. White untextured ceiling, dark chocolate brown and medium grey colours met in corners. Looked amazing sharp! Used delicate frog tape and and another brand of tape. Premoistening the tape is such a good trick too

I grew up in a family of painters and I've been doing it off and on since 1996. Seen alot of ways and alot of differences of opinions. Yes I agree with the back rolling on certain paints and colors because of the haloing. I also use my 5in1 to put a light gouge or cut line where wall meets ceiling so when cutting out it helps me make a straight cut out line. If you get your brush to fan out right and your bristles go in the line you scored in where wall and ceiling meet your cut lines come out almost perfect... I do enjoy your videos and I have learned a thing or 2 as well... Thanks

Another good vid man. I like your point about paining your line on the ceiling vs the wall. I think that would be a good topic. It’s fairly subjective, but when I am deciding which surface I’m going to use for my line I go by perspective. Most short ceilings and typical walls I paint the line on the ceiling. Rarely will anyone be sitting or standing at the wall looking straight up, but they will look at it from across the room. Opposite for vaults and odd high spaces. If you can’t look fairly level at the top of the wall (say looking up at the top of a vaulted wall in a foyer) you will notice the line on the ceiling before you would at the top of the wall. And probably all vice versa with dark ceilings and light walls, I’m still learning.

I've been doing this ever since wizz rollers came out , another tip for everyone that you didn't touch on is to use your whole body when you cut in as one not just your arm 1 you don't wear your arm out and to your more stable and if you increase the speed your lines become straighter and more uniform this building muscle memory which always gives you laser lines I get the comment fromy customers or who ever is around an how do you get your lines so perfect free hand. I’m noticing sometimes that the cuts look darker than my rolls. I don’t always backroll, but I do roll really tight into a wet cut. Probably as close as you’re getting here with your back rolling. I’m thinking the back roll would make the cut even darker. It’s normal the time, but there isn’t really a rhyme or reason. I’m not rolling too thin, or uneven. Definitely rolling before my cut dries. Drives me fking nuts. I noticed your brush strokes are kind of short too. Not sure that’s the problem. I finish off the area I’m cutting in. My cuts are much straighter when I run my brush further.

You have white voids at the top of that wall cut. real crews do not use a whiz roller like that. too slow and unnecessary. you simply roll from the floor with a 9" while your cut is still wet. You would only get haloing if the paint sets up super fast in a hot room or you're not using a soft brush, or you just don't know how to brush out your paint.

I don't like it. For one, the ceiling line should be fixed. It's terribly uneven. Second, I prefer to tape. At least with tape, you can get the illusion of a straight line, even when the ceiling is as uneven as this one seems to be. If I hired a painter and he did this "cut-in" job for me, I would not be happy. To me, this process makes the unevenness glaring. On top of that, most people can't draw a straight line, and that includes professionals. If you can't draw a straight line, then I certainly don't want to pay you to paint one. The quality of brush will not matter much.
