The OD discussion from the paramedics have happened to me as well, not going into detail, but some nerve got messed up from stress. Wasn't that fun being accused of taking drugs until we got the test results, but I totally understand that they had to ask. Hope you'll stay healthy now Jeff. Also, that beard is starting to look good! Have a good week all of you!

I will make changes and get back on it! regular exercise, even if it's just walking up a hill. Thank you, for telling your background, and your story, and the symptoms! that's huge! Thanks, you gave insight for what may happen to me. All this time, I thought you were a normal guy. But to hear this story, well thanks for talking about your personal issues and for being brave about it. I will start exercising more and eat less. Yes I'm overweight, but I'm not ashamed. You sir deserve every single gratitude and thank you for potentially changing my life for the better. Good luck with whatever you need to get done.

keep at it man, you've done it before you can do it again. you make me feel childish when i worry about my weight. i'm 5'6" and currently a little under 160 but that is after two years of fighting myself to get from 180 to 140. all i can say is that i need to work harder on it, i've even been at 150 a couple times and slacked off, i feel ashamed, and even that makes me feel more ashamed because my weight isn't a real problem in my life while tons of people really do have issues that cause it to be difficult to loose the weight and my only excuse is laziness. (sorry if this offends, i decided to go ahead and vomit words)

Really enjoyed listening to your story! I'm glad that you've gotten rid of your sickness and that you are feeling well! I have Ulcerative colitis (inflammatory bowel disease) and i take pills daily. 2 at the morning and 2 before bed. And like you say it would be such a good feeling if i could just wake up one day and be rid of it. Even if the medicin helps it's still a hassle. Do make more of these videos! I really like they way you tell your stories man :)

Jeff - I've watched tons of your videos, mostly reviews of items (knives/gear, etc.) but this has to be one of the BEST videos I have seen you do yet. I too was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes in October '14. Gotta take Glyburide-Metformin 2wice a day (after a meal). My last trip to the doctor things were looking good, but he has me on cholesterol meds now, saying that my cholesterol wouldn't be bad for a normal person, but for a Diabetic, it needs to go down. So now I am taking that before I go to bed. Only thing is I have been doing terrible of late. Food is a passion of mine as well (I'm Italian, I don't need to say more) and pasta, pizza, bread, eggs, and cheese and fried foods are what I live for and that is what they tell you you need to give up. They ask you to exercise, but my job is desk ridden hours of the day. I am not making excuses, and have been doing terrible of late, but your video inspired me somewhat that I gotta get back on track. I would like to know what you do eat when you are being good - hopefully its something I like and I can maybe give a try to get me by the hungry times. Thanks for sharing this story.

Seriously not trying to gloat, rather express gratitude. Living in Canada has the huge advantage of health care. I can't imagine the fear of not only suffering a major medical issue(grateful for my health too) but also the added burden of a huge bill. The US has got to sort that shit out.
@Tom1k910 жыл бұрын
Like in the UK everyone complains about the NHS but if it dissapeared people wouldnt know what to do with themselves.
@crazyjoe492910 жыл бұрын
I agree with you newcoyote, there are those people that could use the healthcare, but then there are the bottom feeders that try to get all the scraps that they can while they are not really under ailment or under a certain condition that would prevent them from being able to pay for the bill. What are we to do in such a case? Should we let them do nothing and get assistance for it?
@Jesses00110 жыл бұрын
Last time I was in Canada, it was a while ago, we could not find a doctor to take a look at my acquaintance's broken arm. He fell and his arm was clearly broken right in the middle of the radius bone. After three days of failing to get healthcare, I treated him myself. Last I heard he is doing well, but your Healthcare system has far to much red tape and stupid rules. The US healthcare system is no gem either. You can get any treatment available. The best healthcare is at our disposal at any time, day or night. That is all great, till we get a big fat bill in the mail for thousands and thousands of dollars. $14 for one acetaminophen pill? I can get four bottles for that price! Then congress passes this idiotic law and I loss ALL my healthcare, no dentist, no doctor. Now I have to start all over again building a system for myself, and it will cost more. There has to be some system that gives the best of both worlds...right?
@newcoyote10 жыл бұрын
Jesse Sisolack Really? In my 43 years I have never had an issue finding a doctor or medical care if I needed it. I have broken bones and suffered other injuries and always been taken proper care of instantly.In fact here in BC you can even see a doctor online for issues that do not need physical attention. It's called Medeo and is super convenient. I know the system here is far from perfect but it ain't bad.
@RyanDoesGaems10 жыл бұрын
I live in Newfoundland (A Province in Canada) And it is an issue because i live in a smaller community and my 3 of my previous doctors moved away and left me stranded when i hurt my leg. I have a doctor now but this was inconvenient at the time.

Closest thing I've experienced to that was when my allergies hit right about the time a storm came in. Barometric pressure changed. lol The world around me was literally spinning for a few days. Nicely done Jeff. If your friends would just change their diet and exercise it would help a lot. Not gonna lie for the first like 2 mins I was eating some sugar cereal without milk and after that I looked at them and went "nooooope".. You actually reminded me of a lot of the health scares I had after my first year of college and being close to 350lbs. I had severe soda addictions (chocolate too but nowhere near as bad as caffeine). After training in martial arts and combatives for 2 years and counting I went from like 345 lbs to 267 lbs, and my target goal is 230 lbs (i'm a pretty big broad shouldered guy so being like 180-150 isn't good for me either) It is rough to kick things you love. reducing my soda intake caused me to lose so much weight alone, but I had to go from an average drinking rate, to a methadone style of weening myself off of caffeine until I finally hit the point I only drink soda when I go out to dinner which isn't often at all. It is tempting when you work at a restaurant to have some but I always reach for the water, and that fear of being diabetic was that motivator. Yeah some tea every now and again, but 9 times out of 10 water. Thanks for the vid btw.. esp with how well timed it was while I was eating stupid ass sugar cereal xD.. you reminded me that it is a slippery slope back to where I was, and I REALLY don't feel like being a beach ball again.

Jeff, I've never noticed you having a bike-it's a really fun way to control weight. And fun is important, cause you don't get bored and don't lose your motivation for exercising. Rollerblading is more intense(and the more you weigh, the more instense it is), but it's lighter on the joints than jogging, which is even more physically intense. But jogging, unfortunately, can bore the crud out of you over time lol

Jeff, it seems we have a lot in common, we're both 6ft and we're huge. And I share your passion for food. Who wouldn't, really?? Currently, I'm trying to lose some weight, but it's so freaking hard... And SO is gaining it back, it's too easy if you don't start to live by some serious set of rules. I've been in this rollercoaster my whole life, in between 190lbs and over 300lbs. Why does everything fattening has to taste so good... Or made out of cream, sugar, butter, salt, fat, and all the good stuff... :-) Gotta love'em huge steaks, too... With fries. Or with creamy sliced cheese and garlic potatoes... I've lost nearly 20 pounds this summer, now I'm at 280. Well, I don't look like a fat person anymore (I'm one big boned son of a gun), but I sure can feel it. I've exercised a lot in my past, but when I busted my back years ago, it all started to crumble. Geesh, I have so many stories to tell, it's been an exciting life, but yeah: some things just don't belong to KZbin. I also busted my pancreas a few years back, so you too should go easy with the beer... It's not always related to the amounts you're using. It's all the things combined. Be warned. And it makes you fat as well. Well, so does Coke, but I'm not giving up my daily cola dosages! :-)

Insulin doesn't break down sugars, it gives a signal to the cells to take in sugars so they can break it down. If the cells don't get that signal, the sugar stays in your blood, that's why you have high blood sugar. The diabetes you usually have is because the receptors of the cells grow a resistance to insulin, so the insulin doesn't work as well any more. It doesn't help much to take insulin for that aswell, because the receptors are still resistant. What you can do (and probably did) is take pills which help the receptors to accept the insulin again. The juvenile diabetes is because of a disfunction of the pancreas, which stops it from producing insulin. The solution for this one is easy (even though it's a hassle), just inject insulin after every sugary meal. Sorry, this was probably a bit too scientific, but I hope it helped to explain what diabetes actually is.

A dog's neck is not the equivalent of a human neck. Collars, especially flat, identification collars, do not "choke" a dog. In fact, the dog's neck is part of his predatory, wrestling apparatus. Those who decry collars are just a step above recommending dogs be vegetarian. Biologically incorrect. Plus, even if a dog is microchipped, it is more likely that a lost dog will be returned if he wears a tag: the slide on flat tags, like Boomerang, are the least problematic. Harnesses are good for body support in a lame/elderly animal, or to clip to seat belts if they ride without a crate. Harnesses are designed to facilitate pulling, so they are not appropriate for training, no matter what the sales person tells you. Dogs respond to training collars because that's the neurological spot where they were picked up by their mothers or other authority figures.

I don't mean to preach here, but I feel the need here to help at least one person. Sugar: A Bitter Truth, and Fat Chance: Fructose 2.0 on KZbin. An expert into field gives two presentations as to insulin and lepids, and how fructose is the major cause of metabolic syndrome (high triglycerides, diabetes, obesity, blood pressure, etc). A lot of doctors are slightly behind here, because major health industries are not ready to acknowledge the issue fully. They've gathered compiled studies and found that the only major change in our eating habits in the past 50 years has been in eating reprocessed foods (like tv dinners). Most of these foods cut out on the fiber (what makes fruit good) and add salt and sugar. Our food is less natural now since a lot of it is added into our foods. I have been to the store, and seen 31 out of 32 breads have high fructose corn syrup in them. High Fructose Corn Syrup was introduced largely in the Nixon era to balance the fluctuating price of sugar. It's super cheap to make, and it's also why it is put into a lot! Bread, condiments, sweet snacks, soda, etcetera. Fructose is the problem. Our body doesn't need it, like it needs glucose, fat, and meat (the other demons of our health crisis). In England during the Renaissance, they ate 5x as much meat as we do. Protein is an energy source that lasts the longest, hence eating less. Sugar stimulates the hunger hormone. I'm not kidding when I say this, but sugar is a drug. Your body digests it the same as alcohol, as your digestion system has difficulty processing it. Especially in cases like HFCS(High Fructose Corn Syrup), your brain does not recognize it. It has no way of saying, this is too much, which means you can eat infinite of it. The only way plants get away with it, is that they are loaded with fiber. In my opinion the best cure is simply cutting out most fructose (except fruit/vegetables with fiber). I am not a health freak, but a lazy individual. I jump on a trampoline 10 minutes a day. All I do is check the labels of what I buy. My eyes get tired after being awake for 20 minutes to 1 hour every morning, and I have sinuses that prevent nasal breathing. Since cutting out sugar, my allergies are almost nonexistant, and the fatigue to my eyes is much more laid back. I have had nervous issues my entire life, partially as a result in short breathing (through the mouth), and never been able to run far without getting dizzy as a result. And like CutleryLover said, you have to change your lifestyle. Without kicking your own butt, it takes as long as it was put on to go away. Accept who you are, and for what you are, before trying to change it. As I became an adult, I gained almost twice my weight in five years. I was wiry at 18, being 120 lbs. And as the video shows, it's not just being fat. A -SIGNIFICANT- amount of people suffering metabolic syndrome are skinny or normal weight. I know this sounds weird, but I accepted that I had become a monster. I was comfortable with that, as all of us have let ourselves go at one time or another. It's not fair that we are tricked into eating bad food. Did our nomad ancestors have to do this for their evolutionary cycle? And here's the philosophy part. But as our society focuses more and more upon thriving, there is much less emphasis on the basic necessities of our survival. Most of us are stuck having other people feed us (during lunch, at work). It's expensive, and we want it to be as cheap as possible. However, only you can put the time and effort into putting that care in. This is a result in our neglect of food (farming, produce, growing, etcetera). And by that, even if you don't wish to do the hippy stuff and support a cause, or grow yourself, you're already a good example if you take care of yourself, and spread the word around. Please take a few hours out of your busy day to watch the two videos. No mumbo jumbo about getting off my butt, self-motivation, or any hoo-rah's were going to get me to change my lifestyle around, but knowledge. Seriously, you are what you eat. Because even if you want to work out, there are foods proactive, neutral, and slowing of our motivational systems - feeling like you are glued to the couch. I am not even arguing about eating neutral foods, just cutting out the foods that slice into our own self-motivation. Also know that diet soda is not any better for you either. They've done studies finding mice already addicted to cocaine preferring sugar free sugar to cocaine.

You had Type 2 Diabetes my friend. I have Type 1, which unfortunately means I have it for life. But ohwell that's life! I've had it for just over 15 years now. So keep that weight off so you don't have to deal with it again! :)

85 is way too low. 100 120 ish. at 85 to 90 i feel kinda sick. im fat. not super fat but big for being only 6,1. my sugar level is always too low. it stays around 80 to 90 if im eating food all day long. if i dont eat or if i miss a meal my sugar level dips into the 40s and 50s. Which is pretty crazy. i get really sweaty, and my hands start to shake real bad. it sucks. I retain water bad too, my legs swell up with fluid if i sit down for too long, but if i walk or lay down they go down alot. Witch is something that happens when you have diabetes. Well im waiting.. its been this way for 5 years now.

okay, so the diabetes you are speaking of is type 2, type to is a result of extreme weight, you can shed it with weight loss, the type of diabetes i have is type 1, with a type one diabetic our pancreas (organ that produces insulin) shuts down and deteriorates so to say, we have to take insulin shots and check our blood sugar at least 4 times a day, we cant get rid of it, we cant just exercise and eat healthy and poof, it doesn't work like that for us
