As a cutting board maker (woodworker), I can say this guy's right. A real cutting board will need this type of care regularly (every 2 months or so is best). It'll keep the board looking nice and keep it moisturized, and if you put a beeswax mix on it too, that'll help a lot with water resistance and general finish durability. To deep clean your board to prevent bacteria from growing, put salt on the board and then scrub it with a lemon half. The lemon juice and salt will sanitize it really well.

@gingermonroe4153 any food safe mineral oil will work great! Also, I'd highly suggest checking out the Walrus Oil company (nothing to do with actual walruses), they're the best in the game. They make great cutting board oils, with waxes like beeswax and carnauba wax mixed into them, which really helps with durability and cutting board health. Also, Howard's makes a good cutting board oil/wax for cutting board care. Hope this helps!

Two points about mineral oil- It's not really edible (it's a laxative), and it never polymerizes (dries); it will soak in, but the mineral oil will always remain liquid. It's better to choose an oil that is truly food safe, and one that will dry. I suggest raw linseed (flax) oil. I'm a spoon carver, and raw linseed oil has done great for my spoons (and cutting boards) for years and years. 👍👍

Fun fact about boos block: if you are within driving distance of effingham, Illinois or you are going on a road trip that passes through there, stop by the Boos outlet. They have a clearance section of mess ups. There’s nothing wrong with these boards other than a small scratch or a piece of wood with a dark spot. You won’t have the logo engraved on the cheapest ones but I’ll tell you this: I have three bigger than the one he shows in this video and I paid less than $200 for all of them, combined. They retail for $300-$600 a pop. Anytime I travel south from the Midwest, I stop there. Even if I don’t need another board. You can’t beat $50 for one of these!

200$ isn’t enough to pay an artisan to work with something by hand. So lets say it takes the artisan 50$ to do the work of seasoning one board. Thats 1/4 the price at 200$, for a 50$ board it would be half the price. If you’re already putting that much, why not spend extra to make a really nice board with nice wood and finishing? Also, people have different ways they like to do it. Assuming what someone needs in their specific situation usually isn’t worth saving them 15 minutes of work

Wash it with soap and hot water just like anything else in your kitchen. Rinse it well and dry it off immediatly. When the board looks a little dried out put another coat of mineral oil on it. End grain cutting boards comes with its own cons aswell they're a little softer than a face grain and so they get damaged easier, they also absorb moisture faster and increases the chance to grow bacteria and so requires more frequent tlc. Face grains are stronger and more stable especially if it's quarter sawn and so requires less tlc and takes more abuse though harder on your blade so sharpen often.
