As tractors become more computerized and unable to be fixed without a code reader that old Farmall becomes more valuable and money well spent with every repair.

Something about Pete doing hay makes me happy, he's always upbeat and seems to enjoy it, everyone I do hay with is always miserable, but that's probably because they break something every time

Pete hears something in the barn, he opens the door, there's a large beetle standing in front of him. The beetle pushes Pete so hard he falls and hits his head on the Farmall , requiring a trip to the hospital. When Pete explains what happened to the Doctor, she says, "Ah, I'm not surprised, you're the fifth case we've had today" "Really?" Pete says. "Yes," the Doctor says, "There's a really nasty bug going around..."

Safety Sam... I used to clean out the infeed rolls when they got plugged on the Claas forage harverster with the machine running till i heard about a guy who lost both his arms doing just what i was doing. The rollers engaged without command and pulled him in... After that i would cool the machine down and stop the engine, it takes a bit of time but i bet that guy without his arms has all the time in the world now. All the best luck with the weather and the hay Pete and be safe.

Im 70 still do the small square bales. M farmall with a 273 New holland bailer . Ive learned something. I now only cut and bale once a season. In the fall when cool weather sets in. There are several advantages. all the seed heads are ripe and most is shaken off the hay during cutting raking bailing ect. Then when the growth is left standing during the summer drought the sun doesnt bake the ground like a mowed field. Its much cooler to perform the physical work. the hay has less moisture content in the fall and will cure faster no tedding necessary. And when I start feeding Im not feeding hay that is already 6 months old. And the yield is just as much as I would get from two cuttings. Last year I began cutting hay on October 1st.

Pete, you are co. I have beef pasture and grain. I have been slowly reducing my grain and adding more hay from last year. I live in Bucks County Pennsylvania, we only get 1 cutting. I am weaning my beef from grain. They have plenty of pasture, but could be better. I built a hay rack for outside from youtube. Works great. My beef are now coming to the hay feeder 3 times a day to eat hay. Plus what they get from the pasture. Happy, healthy animals. It is saving me a ton of money from grain. I have lots of money invested in corn, and the weather is crazy here. Thanks for your opinions. It is working nice. Me 58yr. old 3rd generation owner its all fun. I have more farmalls than I need, but its fun. Looking forward to your next post. Joe

Excellent video Pete :) had deers shock me lots time in fields on farm days when rake hay or straw rows before got bales square bales used a 1968 624 60 hp Desiel motor use low range in 4 gear unless crop was wet high range in 2 gear plus 1966 New Holland #56 rake had 2 wheels too and had deer sit under straw row one day luck desiel tractor had great big Vroom sound say working had wait for a complete stop so deer get from under straw row jump out way ! But same deer every year after that so saw and complete stop push throttle of engine to rev up and back down low idle on foot pedal to say please move because horn switch was broken some reason ! Also going tell why my late Dad Don bought 1963 McCormick- International B414 Loader tractor Desiel motor tractor & 1968 International 624 60 hp Deseil tractor was Roads Department near home farm did used both these tractors for cutting grass on ditches on roads with 1966 #10 McCormick International Sickle Mower had wheels plus another one near front back tire from foot pan plus pedals to and my great 2 Uncles Jack plus Leo of mine work with roads department also use for years and when updated tractor they bought these 2 tractors for there farm to use plus Sickle Mower too ! Only thing tractor were not red also white in color they were yellow and black colors but same decals also trim too like from factory too!

I am about to cut my hay for the first time ever and I can’t wait. I grew up on a large hay farm. The hay field is one of my favorite places to be. I have a 8N Ford so it should be interesting since I don’t have live power. I grew up an farmall/international man. I will have a red tractor soon. We use two Hydro 70s to cut hay. A 460 narrow front to rake. And either the hydros to bale or our 656 diesel non hydro though. I love watching your channel. I have a channel as well and we are just starting out. You are a big inspiration to my channel. Keep up the good content Sir.

Great video. We had an old belt drive swather years ago. I spent more fixing that thing than cutting. Finally got a hydrostatic machine. Our hay is crested wheatgrass and some clover. Since we’re dryland we only cut a hay field every other year so it can re-seed. I have made oat hay a few times and volunteer wheat hay from a summer fallow field. I like seeing such lush grass without irrigation. :)

One of my favourite jobs was cutting hay/silage. I preferred to drive the other way round the first time. It was easier to drive a wheel near the fence than the end of the mower. I would leave the outside until I had finished end rows, then cut the outside. Leaving it until then gave it a chance to recover a little from being run over. You need to have a mower that is as wide as the tractor track width. Keep making the videos

Pro tip- use a leaf blower to clean out the machine when you’re done for the day. We blow out all of our hay stuff after the day is done works really well on the hay baler and rotary cutter. Works great and it’s much easier to clean off than if it happens to get rained on.

Brings back memories. Except we mowed hay with a 1940 John Deere H with a converted horse drawn John Deere mower that cut a 4 foot swath. Good thing we only had 14 acres to mow. Then we raked it with the same tractor pulling a converted horse drawn rake. My Grandpa had i rope rigged to the trip on the rake so it was a one Man or in my case Boy job. I learned to drive and start that old H with flywheel start when I was 8 years old. By the time I was 10 I was a pro.

You are very fortunate Pete, here in the central united states we are in a worsening drought. our first cutting hay was 1/3rd to 1/2 of what it should have been. Corn and Soybeans are not doing well. Currently with temps in the high 90's strong winds, and dew points very low the ground is drying at a faster rate than the farmers with irrigation systems can put water down.

Good looking crop, ours is pretty thin this year. We didn't get a lot of rain in April and also had several cold nights after the grass was growing pretty good.
