Fascinating as always mate. Rust is bad unless it is on your channel, time to meet your maker destroyer of metal. This will be as interesting a watch as the 89 and many before it. Cheers for bringing us on the journey Marc. James’ pride and joy couldn’t be in safer hands.

Hey thanks for watching Darren yes this one is another rusty one for sure but I do enjoy the challenge so get going on it. First stop a big panel order to starting lining so bits back up.

Hi Marc, hmmm... Well, what to say?? A bit more work than expected, but no surprise really hey lol!! Nothing too scary, glad you found that bit at the footwell, covered in underseal hey! Plenty to get on with tho. Great stuff, look forward to seeing the progress on the next one! 😊

How amazing to see the original pillar and dash rail in good condition! you guys really have caught that in good time. These repairs will be crucial to saving this little mini. James must feel so relieved. Its alot of work but worth every bit of effort :D Looking forard to the next installment :D

It’s interesting my 94 Mayfair has gone in exactly the same places. I’ve also recently bought a magnum flitch repair panel, with exactly the same ‘oil canning’ or popping in the panel. When the rib is pressed it must shrink in that area, causing the end of the panel to have too much material. I managed to flatten the panel by heat shrinking the area with too much material, it worked a treat. I used a small blow torch and dolly hammer to flatten the area once it had bulged up due to the heat
@SimpsonsClassics2 жыл бұрын
That is good to know this isn’t the only one to be going in these places. Nice tip on the heating of the panel. We are currently working out what the next plan of attack is.
@velmathemini2 жыл бұрын
I'll definitely use your tip on the flitch panel. Luckily my toe board isn't as bad as eve's so I'll follow your instructions 🙂🙂. I'll be interested in how you tackle the repair behind the shock absorber as mine needs doing, although the rust doesn't go all the way through like James's does. Great video 👍🏻.

Thanks Rick really appreciate your comments. It’s time to sit back now and work out a plan of action but of course I will bring you guys along for the ride. If you check out the 89 series I have done the shock tower repair there if that helps in the meantime 👍 thank you for watching

Hi Mark You need to remove the coating on those panels anywhere you intend to weld on both sides. That coating gives of dangerous gases when you weld it otherwise. Please wear eye and breathing protection anytime you weld or grind I am in my sixties and I am on oxygen because I did not. I love your channel, please keep up the great content!

Hey Shane I am sorry to hear that. Yes I always remove the coating of these panels it makes them far nicer to weld for sure. Thanks for watching as always 👍

@johnwalters37822 жыл бұрын
Hi Marc, going to be a very interesting build this one. You mentioned Plusgas for rusty bolt removal but have you heard of Bulldog BDX. the guy on Cortina City swears by it as it penetrates rusty bolts & fittings that are over 40 years old, making them easily removable. Worth a look if you,re interested.

Oh yes definitely an interesting one for sure. I haven’t heard of that stuff but I will doing some research on it for sure cheers for that and thank you for watching stay tuned for more.

I'm not sure how this much rust is not considered bad. I own a 1999 Rover Mini from Germany and if it had any rust I wouldn’t have bothered buying it.
